Enjoyed your video very much. Was considering getting some dental work done in Switzerland on my next trip in the near future. Your video really made it quit clear, Switzerland is no place for a foreigner to think there are bargains in the dental arena.
Thank you for watching and glad you enjoyed the video.👍 Since the video was filmed, we have both gone to the dentist here again (one time each) and had an overall good experience. It's just that it costs a lot more than in the countries we come from. So definitely no bargains to be made...😅
Compared to the USA it's cheaper everywhere. Last February my partner and I were in Lausanne, and he got some low but persistent fever and cough, with the negative covid-19 test result. So on the fifth day of this we decided to go to a doctor. No Swiss insurance of any kind, needless to say. We walked to the nearest urgent care, the doctor saw him and prescribed some antibiotics. The total cost of the visit: 115 Swiss francs. Just _TRY_ that trick in America without insurance! Good luck. Another anecdote: a friend of a friend had a skiing accident and to be helicoptered to the hospital. I don't know the hospital cost, unfortunately, but I do know the cost of the helicopter ride: 500 Swiss francs (no insurance, again). OTOH in California yet another friend had to pay 1000 _(one thousand)_ dollars for a 20-minute ambulance ride to the hospital, and it was _just a ride,_ there was no need for the ambulance crew to do anything whatsoever (a semi-serious bicycle accident, not life-threatening). Thankfully, his work insurance paid for this. So whenever I hear stories about how expensive Switzerland is, I just chuckle. I live NOT even IN, but merely NEAR San Francisco and the rent here is _triple_ that of the Interlaken area. I could go on like this for a while 🙂
Thanks for sharing your stories, it's very interesting. I have to say, I am surprised by the price of that helicopter ride. I thought it would be much more than that, maybe in the order of thousands. And yes, the healthcare system in the US seems to be very messed up. Not sure how anyone is expected to afford doctors visits without having a good insurance. And all insurances seem to be covering/not covering different things. At least here we have a base cover, which legally has to be the same across all insurances. I feel like the is a lot of difference in the cost of living depending on where you live in the US. Is that right?
I mean if all is good, you don't have follow up, if you have a problem then they will make an appointment. And once in 2 years they make an x ray for better check. Obviously, it's not common everywhere 😁In other words, prevention checks
Ah, yes yes, I understand what you mean. I am pretty sure that prevention dental checks should be covered by dental insurance. However, they will not be covered by basic health insurance. Hope this answers your question now?🙂
According to the website below - 300,000CHF per year. You can see now where that money comes from haha!😂 www.salaryexplorer.com/salary-survey.php?loc=210&loctype=1&job=924&jobtype=3
Thank you so much for this video! I am currently debating whether to get dental insurance, as I have A LOT of dental procedures to get done. I actually estimated Mike's cost would be higher. In the US, 3 gum surgery grafts would cost me about $5000, braces about $5000, and dental implants $10k. I'm expecting sort of the same cost here, but maybe it's somewhat cheaper in CH? Either way, the dental insurance probably won't cover these procedures, since you say they don't really accept pre-existing conditions. Thanks again! :)
You're welcome! :) It could be a bit cheaper, but it's still probably quite comparable. Yes, if you already know that those have to be done, they probably won't get covered, plus the waiting time from getting the insurance to being able to claim it back can be quite long. But in any case I would recommend you to inquire from a couple insurance companies about this, since every case is different, and it's always good to double check. From what I read on some websites the dental insurance offer from Helsana is quite good (comparing to others).
I live in the USA. Am 77 years old and you can guess how many times I have been to the dentist. Same in The USA.. thank you for the videos. I enjoy your information and enthusiasm. Are you staying in Switzerland? Thank you.
I expected higher costs. 3 sessions 1-2 hours per session (at least) 1-2 people working That makes about 5h hours dentist and 4 hours from the helper. Yes, 1500 is cheap for this amount of time
Hiya! Thanks for watching 👍🙂 Just wanted to clarify that the four appointments together took between 2 and 3 hours in total. 🙂 Sorry it wasn't in the video.
Hi, why you take out all? Wouldn't be enough the only one was make you sick? I suggest to send the bill the the case maladie, because the extraction supposed to be pay...not sure 100%...and it only cost the stamp at the end😂but you never know,...why don't you ask your colleagues for a good dentist? We have a kind cheaper service providing by Croce Verde here in Ticino....but not always the best🙈😂 I paid 3500 to have my tooth back by implant😉😂🙈👋 and yes even if you eat an olive and broke your teeth the insurance will cover😁
Two were growing incorrectly (crushing the other teeth), and their matching pairs had to go as well. Apparently if you only take one wisdom tooth out and not the one that grows opposite, this opposite tooth will continue to grow because it doesn't have anything to bite against.🙈 From what dentist said it won't be covered, but we'll try with the insurance company anyway. Mike's health insurance franchise is 2500CHF, so he won't get a payout unfortunately. What's Croce Verde? Wow, yes, implants are expensive, and not just in Switzerland.🙈 😂Which insurance would cover breaking your tooth with an olive? Accident?
@@OurSwissAdventure croce verde is green cross and in ticino they handle ambulances service and dental care. The dentist did for my brother and was covered by the Unfall versicherung, accident insurance? In francaise... that your employer pay for you, should be considered like when you broke something, like an accident 😉 the school back in the 70' was pay for all the work of the dentist...here in the south 🇨🇭 we were richier at that time...not like today....as I heard they still do something with the dentist but probably as you explained a basic visit...and than it's up to the parents, our motto was prevention is better than cure....not anymore 😖👋
@@pippopapero5373 Ah, okay, and do you pay contribution to croce verde (like a monthly or yearly payment)? Because it sounds like this could be similar to becoming a patron of Rega, the helicopter rescue service. Ah, yes yes, the accident insurance, we both have it since it's mandatory. Why did Ticino become less rich? And as for children's dentistry, I think Lisa was saying that her son at school has some sort of dental education programme, or something like this, which would help with prevention. But it's true, knowing how high dental costs could be, it can definitely put you off going to the dentist and thus, you will let the problem get worse, instead of treating it early.
@@OurSwissAdventure Hi, for the green cross you can do something like rega, i think, and if you need you going to pay less for ambulances, la caisse maladie i think just cover some part of the cost, it can be up to 800 fr for the trip, but for the dentist they just offer a fair service with a low cost, probably because they get money from founding and from Canton. As some other rural Cantons we are considering a poor canton, like Jura where the wages are lower than the average but also the cost of living is lower. What I think we became poor for the dumping of the wages that means we cannot afford to pay high rent, health insurance, and we need more subsidies for the families, so the Canton start to cut on the whealtfair, and in the same time excluding the peoples who were considered midle class, that now can't afforded anymore 🤷♂️ if in my bad English I was clear enough 🙈😂 I think the kid of Lisa, in school has what you explained, and probably he recieve a tablet after lunch of fluoride, has I did back in the 70', I'm so old🙈😁, but if you watch her last video, I never seen the school taxes, we don't have here, maybe, my birth town has something different in school....after all those taxes🤔🙈👋
@@pippopapero5373 Ah, okay, thanks for explaining. Yes, true, basic insurance only pays up to 500 CHF and only 50% of the cost of medical transport. I think I understood what you meant.
