Tom, This is great stuff. I was getting frustrated from all of the "I have been a ham for 105 years" videos showing me what to connect with the IC 7300 for digital modes and not one explained what settings do what and why. I respect the many years of experience that is out there, but not one has hit the mark for me. I appreciate your time in explaining, in not too much detail but enough detail, on what does what for digital. I am looking forward to the part 2 on this one. Keep it up Elmer!

Now there's a little item ICOM could adjust in the UI - I found the menu labels "DATA MOD" and "DATA OFF MOD" to be a little confusing. You explained them well!
But if they had said "DATA OFF MOD" and "DATA *ON* MOD" then the symmetry of the two settings would be better. Thanks for your clarification. Not sure if they have a way to highlight but " 'Data Off' Mod" and " 'Data On' Mod" would add useful information. That's more a suggetion to ICOM than to you, but maybe it will help someone else remember too.

Ft8 and all that digital crap is annoying.

Hi - Am I the only one who cannot get more than 2.7kHz audio bandwidth over the USB interface to a PC? I have tried adjusting the SSB filter width and shift but the upper freq reaching the PC does not change. I cannot find a radio menu setting for this anywhere.
Is it possible for the PC to set the sample rate that the USB interface is running at? I wouldn't have thought so but if my PC has selected 8k sample rate this might limit the bandwidth somewhat?? Thanks.

Sure glad someone sent you a rubber tipped pointer later in the series----you have a BIG right hand!

😊 Sorry about that. Glad the pointer helps.

Thanks for putting the manual page numbers in the introductory comments - I usually put the manual page up on a second screen in acrobat reader while I'm watching these. When you open the image from ICOM it shows the table of contents and you can click on the page for the section (in this case "12") and then on the start page (in this case 12-7) and be right there. I sometimes pause the video to take a look at how it appears in the manual. For some reason for me it will make it easier later to recall it in the manual if I've seen it there before.

Next could be what are the programs to use when I connect the IC 7300 to the W10 PC. For near direct remote control or connect to a monitor screen. Thank you nice videos....Ruben LU8DEH

Can you funnel rig mic into PC, apply FreeDV and have PC output be transmitted? To remove the need for additional microphone for FreeDV.

Hi. Excellent question and idea. Unfortunately, I don’t know of any way to do this. I think you’re stuck with using a separate mic on the PC.

    Hi, Tom.
I set "Audio Output Level" to 100%, and I get louder audio signal in recorded audio file. Since it is digital rig with digital audio, I always get 'perfect' recording signal level.
If unsure, 80% might be a good value.
For "Audio Input Level", I leave it at default level, 50%, and I adjust PC/laptop output level accordingly , based on software's recommendations.
I also enable "Monitor", to ensure the rig receives and transmits the audio signal from PC/laptop correctly
Again, thank you for sharing.. .

Hi Tom. Lovin’ the series! When you are finished with the 7300 are you planning on supplying a table of contents indicating session number and topics covered in that session? That would be very helpful for those of us who need to periodically go back and review a certain topic. Thanks for an excellent series on the IC 7300. 73 de W9UCR

Hi Bob. I’m glad you’re enjoying it. The short answer is yes. I plan to create a website for my channel with a variety of useful information. One of the items will be an index for this series.

Totally new to digital, so not only am I learning about the radio, I get a bonus course on digital mode. Thanks for taking the time and effort on these videos.

Tom, I just found your channel. It is excellent! You should have many more subscribers. I have a 7300 and a 7610. I wish you had a 7610 and did this series on it. There is quite a learning curve on these radios, especially for an oldtimer like me. :) I found that your going through some of the menus helped me on the 7610 since they are so similar. If I might, I would like to make a suggestion. If you use a stylus, it would be a lot easier for us to see the entire screen on the radio. That's minor but I thought I'd mention it. That is the only thing that I see that could make your great videos a little better. 73 W4GHW

Hi Greg. Thank you for the kind words. The stylus is a great suggestion. You'll find that on later videos I have switched to using a stylus to make it easier to see the touch screen.

Tom, I'm following everything step by step. Thank you! For some reason, my ACC/USB AF Output changes on the screen, but the volume doesn't actually change. I take it from 0 - 100 but it doesn't affect my actual audio levels. I've searched online but can't find anyone else with this issue. Any ideas? (Output Select is set to AF)

    • @HamRadioA2Z
      @HamRadioA2Z  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I don’t know why it wouldn’t work. Are you using audio from the USB connection or from the acc jack?

@@HamRadioA2Z I am. And your question made it apparent to me that your audio was coming from that same source. I was expecting it to happen right on the radio itself. Duh! Ah well, such is life. Live and learn. Problem is that at my age, I learn something new every day, but forget two things. Thank you for your reply, sir. It solved the "problem." WHat an awesome series you've created. A blessing to many!
