This is a one sided story, as a Filipino I feel much safer when Duterte sits on the Malacañang Palace. I feel sorry for those whose family were killed, maybe by mistaken identity but if you have to also looked for those families whose families were raped, murdered and slain by those who are drug addicts. Yes, those who got killed were not given a due process but if you live here your whole life and saw the news everyday about people being raped, killed by those who has the influence of drugs, you would say: THIS IS PROBABLY THE BEST WAY TO STOP IT.

Do we really know all of them were guilty? Do we really know all of them were drug traffickers? How much of them were only first time drug consumers, not even reincident, not even criminal and illegal distributors or traffickers? Do we really know the justice transparency in a third world government system as Philippines?
Lot of questions for anyone who considers itself a rational critic, not an emotional dummy.

It doesn't matter even if the killing is not even related to drugs. You can be accused of and be killed. There is no due process.

Now aren't we glad that our country just had Nancy Reagan's "Just Say No" campaign instead. Yet... let's decriminalize drug usage and treat like a mental disorder instead.

Am a Filipino, and I feel terribly disappointed with what is going on now in the Philippines. This documentary is indeed true. As of this time, there are now more 8,000 Filipino being killed as either suspected drug dealers or users. Some of them were innocent victims, as young as 4 years old, old women and men, for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. In the Philippines, your life is in danger once someone report you as either drug user or dealer, especially if you are poor. No more court hearing. We do hope the extra judicial killing will be stopped sooner. :(

Two biggest media in the Philippines GMA and ABS has no balls like The New York Times to do this kind of documentaries. We salute NY Times for this outstanding work. You are doing the Philippines the greatest service of all time. The country needs an international media outlets like you to expose these dark times in the country. This mad man controls the Senate, Congress, Police and the media. NY Times, BBC, Al Jareeza and the likes are the only hope of the country.

Thank you New York Times, I know my wife and i have been following the story. we lived in the Philippines until Duterte took office, we left to Cambodia due to all the killings we could see it was just another dictator coming into power. As we own land in the Philippines we hope his term is short so we can return and it is safe for all people. thank you for your good work reporting this

U know there are better ways in handling this type one of the reasons why crime exist is because of economical
Reasons how are u supposed to feed urself or ur family if u can't find a job how? That's why people turn to crime also due to Ang pilipinas being a poor nation does not mix well
