Yes well done for inspecting the damage you caused and putting it right yourself, there are too many of those smash something and leave it to others to fix, put all your childish moods in the bin, they are not becoming of an adult anyway, and know you've gone up a couple of steps in our eyes.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
@@BaronVonGrumble Hi Chris, looking at your excellent on-boards it seems like the pro riders were taking a more V shape line on that last turn so hard braking upright before a deep turn mid corner then upright again for drive as soon as possible. So they avoided picking up the throttle on the side mid-corner. I guess that's two apex, early and late instead of one. Does that make any sense? Anyway, you were OK and quickly back on it, so good..
2 things I take away from this video, 1. Chris you have come a long way since racing through the capital’s traffic and I can see how much you have improved your riding, so well done. 👍👍👍👍 2. Mugellol definitely needs to host a world Superbike race.😎😎 .
Toprak is a very kind and egoless legend. It's hard not to admire it. There are very few other people as successful and approachable as him. You're so lucky Chris. Great video, thank you.
I know you said you couldn't send anyone out there to get extra shots and all that, but I thought that was a great video. just as high quality as always really. Great attitude with the crash too, not letting it get you down!
Chris your track riding has come on leaps and bounds over the last few years, it's been really good to watch. It's a big step being able to bin it and get back out there with a clear head as well, I think a lot of us would be in a right shitty.
You have to admit, Toprak is the bollocks! IMO, the best bike handler racing today. He's next level compared to everyone else. He seems a humble guy as well.
such a gentle crash. Your bike just looked a little sleepy is all :) don't be too hard on yourself, most of us can't ride anywhere even close to that level. Review, learn, improve, that's what you're there for
I think this is one of my favourite series from 44T this year. And thank you for the track overview, i have another day at Mugello this month. The pointers are so helpful.
So glad you got back out there, you were okay, and the bike was okay. you could tell it was getting progressively looser towards the end of that lap so its unfortunate. Diary videos are also better than no content, so dont fret about that.
Thank you for sharing this (all the ups and downs). Its very humbling to see you go through this - and don't worry you will build it back better and stronger 💪🏻
Fortunately for the bike and especially chris that it was a fairly gentle crash. Got to hand it to the guy. He can handle a superbike pretty bloody well and to jump back on straight after a crash takes balls! So cool to see toprak too! Love 44 teeth, easily my favourite moto channel ❤
Great video! I love how honest you are, the good and the bad. You’re super fast and your genuine love for riding/racing is what makes this channel amazing. Love it, please continue making great content!
I understand what you mean. My first track day, I got distracted and dropped my bike in line waiting for tech inspection. I was very frustrated and absolutely embarrassed. I really contemplated just packing up and going home before the day even started. I'm so glad that I didn't because it was an awesome experience.
The fuelling issue is common to most euro4+ bikes. They have to run lean anyway to meet emissions, and then freeing up the flow leans it out more than the real time stuff will compensate for. People melt through pistons this way so be careful
Awesome Chris. You were carrying serious pace and the footage was fine. Sad to see the low-side, but glad your OK and only cosmetic damage to the R1. Thanks for another great video. Really enjoyed it at the end of a long work day.
Wow seems like brilliant event with plenty of stars! Cant help but smile with Toprak. Yeah bad when u dont know why. When you was quicker during the days did you keep an eye on the suspension settings to match the pace? Reasons being Noticed the forks travel indicator were bottomed after the whoopie. So maybe you needed more pre, comp and reb in ghe front, but did you check and keep an eye on the shock setting too Through the day? If the shocks not controlling the forces it overworks the tyre and pushes ghe pressures up so that could of been a warning? Seems like it unloaded more just as you got to the apex faster than the other laps (was intentional to keep up with brad?) which lifting the back up abit much then just as you put back on the power more suddenly (again intent?) it squashed it but not enough to keep the drive for the tyre so the rear coming round.. just for thought. Excellent vid as usual and riding even with the rash.
Couldnt hope for a better vid. Good riding, quality commentary, unexpected cameo from a legend and authenticity everywhere. For me the lack of polish (like - no cameraman) is a big plus.
Your reaction to the incident was really nice to see. I’m guilty of running off being frustrated at an accident like that, but your calmness was great.
The only rider error in my book is failing to check the tyre pressure. Get the mapping done, it'll be so much smoother as you crack the throttle at full lean. Glad you're ok Chris.
Really enjoying this series of videos and how you build up the pace progressively. We can all learn from this. And they are so down to earth. Kudos to you the project and the 44Teeth. Great work and awfully entertaining.
I wonder if the throttle twitching without the map and the baffle out was a major factor..? Great watch. Thanks Feel for ya with the low side, but insurance will sort it. Keep up the good work
Lord Von Grumble, you've got absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about. You took it like a champ and got straight back on. Class. I'm sure Toprak was in awe getting to meet royalty in the form of a true Baron 😂😂
It's nice to see you ok and ready to hit the track again. I wouldn't expect that crash with all the electronics and your smooth, as it sounds, acceleration.
What a great experience minus the crash! Very fortunate to follow a beast like him. As all the viewers will probably tell you glad to see you went back out. The apology at the end was not needed. Thank you very much for the ride. Enjoyed it. Cheers!
I never comment on TH-cam, but had to comment...wow thats some top 44 teeth content! The footage following the Italian rider was awesome, the chase, his ragged edge corner entry! Casual friendly chat with Toprak! More Baron chase came vs pro riders please! Rules = them road tyres. Looks to even it out in a really fun way. Would make a good feature. Coincidently, Im currently watching Chris permision to torque tour thing. On episode 9....happy to see things are looking up on the love life front ;-)
Well done for keeping the balls in check and doing the last session. I can imagine this being a bit scary. I’m glad the bike did not suffer much either but yeah, gat those race fairings. It’s heart breaking go watch😂. Also your comments of screen are very professional and helpful. I think you’ve matured a bit as a content creator. Diary format is great!❤
Lowsiding at that speed, on the throttle, and walking away without any actual mechanical damage is one to scrape off the bucket list. Good! You should be happy with that. If a crash is bound to happen sooner or later the less damage you sustain, all the better.
The awful throttle response is a sign of it running too lean. I had the same issue, where initial throttle opening felt like I was “snatching” at the throttle. No good for mid corner lean angles. I got it mapped to richen it up and it helped massively.
That plus the tyre pressure is the perfect recipe for the crash. You could hear the sudden pick up as he cracked the throttle. A remap and correct pressure would have stopped that happening.
Sorry about your crash! What was the tractions settings? If you set traction control higher, would you still lose control? By the way I was racing in rookie 600cc class in 2012-13 I remembered Toprak was beating 1000cc class top 3 riders with his 600cc R6 at Istanbulpark circuit 😊
What I love about bikers, you're doing incredible and so fast now. A had a fuck up at knockhill with a silly mistake, didn't wanna go back out but an older legend of a guy scrubbed ma tyres back in after the mud and grass and got me back out.
Absolutely love your content always. One remark though, as far as I know the optimal lap is the combination of your best sectors in a session. You should look at your fastest lap, not the optimal lap, as laptimers typically work that way.
Well done Chris, great video of your journey with the R1, so glad you got on it again. I lined my R1 on Sheene Curve many years ago, and my mates made me get on a track bike later that day, so glad I did as well. Now I know why you didn't let on to your trip when I bumped into you at Silverstone GP!!!
Nice video, enjoy the calm voice overs over the live-commentary. I smiled when you still went back afterwards...Very nice work indeed, pretty damn good lap times.
Really enjoy your vids and followed you since the Baron days. Really admire the way you have talked in the past about the challenges you face, which make it easier for others to talk more openly. Don’t underestimate the impact you have had on people mate.
Considering how you are with your mental wellbeing I'm really pleased for you about how remarkably upbeat you were in the end. Yeah it's a shame about the slight lowside but you were spot on in getting straight on it again before packing it away. Good progress is being made, on the track, your laptimes and more importantly, you. That track though...ooffff 🤩
My old FZR1000 Genesis into a ditch at 60, bounced off a hedge, fell back into ditch, all the top subframe bent, headlights , clocks, all pretty mangled, I thrashed that bike back home so I knew inside my heart the bike was good, just looked bad.....and sure enough once I repaired it no thoughts in the back of my mind the bike wasn't right, getting back on ASAP always the best thing to do if you can IMO. Unlucky mate, looked like it let go pretty quickly !!!
vrum...vrum...in middle of a corner => slide. We've all been there xD Anyway, fantastic video and experience. Nicolo Canepa has his onboard from this event I suppose uploaded on his channel and it is worth watching it!
The quality of the onboard footage you're putting together is absolutely brilliant! The Auto Focus on the selfies is pants though... doesn't matter though! Really interesting to see Toprak wrestle the R1 like that.
Nice content, would have liked to have seen some more comments throughout the video on the road bike to race bike transition, what parts are feeling better and working well and what may still need changing. This instalment felt more like a trackday vlog chasing lap times. The YRE looks like ridiculous amounts of fun though!
Man that thing sounds great. Don't you love when you go back out and start hearing "noises" and having "what's that vibration" kinda feelings for about half a lap....then you forget.
I noticed that you hit the rev limit on a couple of occasions, particularly after the last corner when you accelerate along the main straight. You should be able to cut the lap time a bit more once you get a better feeling about where the limit is and shift right before it. Awesome job btw, don't mind the crash. It happens to all of us.
20:25 I feel you brother, unfortunately thats happening alot in italians trackdays, they think they are about to do a MotoGP race in minutes so they rev up the engines, except for them there are no reason to do it. Just overheating the engine and shortening gaskets lifespan and mostly annoying other riders inside the box.
Smashing it Chris. 4 seconds off Toprak is insane. Honda’s test rider was 6 seconds off the pace at motoGP this weekend to put that into context! Haha Fix the bike and go again. 👊
@BaronVonGrumble Congratulations Chris on improving the bike and bouncing back from the whoopsie. A bit surprised that the slide control would let the rear go like that. As you said a tyre temperature and pressure check is worthwhile. I suppose the Yamaha data logging shows the lean angle, throttle requested and provided with tyre speeds and the TC too.. Only 4.5s off sToprak is mighty. Well done.
Superb guys! Honestly...just a superb vid. Stoprak is a very very cool dude as well. Long may he tear around the tracks of the world doing outrageous stoppies. 🙂👍
Looks amazing. Well done for getting back on it, would help to just put it behind you rather than build up the anxiety. 1 : 58 for your level seems very respectable to me 😊😊😊
Manufactures make bikes run lean to get though emissions. Lean means there isn’t much fuel in the fuel and air mixture which is combusted. However a lean fuel mixture causes higher temperatures and an increased risk to components such and pistons and rings adding an exhaust and intake without a tune will only make the bike run more lean A richer mixture helps too cool the engine a little and make the most of modifications to produce more powerrrrr! Hope this helps
In essence, a bike (or engine) running lean simply means there is not as much fuel as there should be (think air/fuel ratio). The opposite of this is running rich, where there is more fuel than there should be. The ECU will have a target air/fuel ratio across the rpm range under different loading conditions. With a free-er flowing exhaust system, the engine can 'breathe' better, meaning more air can be ingested. More air, means more fuel, and so results in the bike running lean, without re-mapping it :)
I'm still amazed you have not had it mapped to get the fuel ratio right and for the throttle percentages in each gear. especially with that exhaust, needs more fuel. You'll knock another 1s off easily with that. You'll be hanging with the big boys then, impressive speed as it is. Bike came out quite well to be honest but I bet Chris hated the looks, I know he likes them to look perfect. Good riding, good tweaks and excellent video presentation. You need more subscribers.
Wow, just meeting Toprak is worth the damage ! Well done, awesome riding, and that was fast !! R1 has always had a terrible throttle connection initial on/off - I had one, takes a lot of time and effort to get it right but they are sweet once sorted, getting the ignition map right is key !
Can't believe Toprak had the opportunity to meet a legend
😂
Toprak and Sue Perkins
And he was so flustered that he couldn't even pronounce his on surname! Raz-gat-lee-og-lu. Geez.
I was going to like the comment but it’s on 44 🤷🏻♂️
You could see how nervous Toprak was! 😅
What a guy Toprak is so down to earth for the amount of talent he has, well done Chris on getting stuck in again after your crash ✊
The term “down to earth” is soo overused these days i mean ppl almost always try to be nice when there’s a camera
Shock horror he poops like the rest of us

Nice of Toprak to stop by. Top man
The main thing I take from this is realising even Toprak Razgatllioglu struggles saying 'Razgatlioglu'
Bloody quick times, those. Bike sounds great, too. What a track, eh? Top job 😊👍
Thank you Michael Sir! 🎉 Such a mega place ❤

Thank you for the excellent content. Glad you were able to get back out.
Toprak What a humble Legend! Hats off to U both! Mugello! Holy MC-land! ToP NoTch Baron!!!
Fair play getting back out there after the crash big man, well done
You've set such a high standard for yourself Chris. Amszing stuff, and thanks for sharing
Toprak. Nice guy. Glad you are OK.
