Thanks for this significant character study of Joshua. It is much needed in our times when the lines between true faith and mild faith are so blurred that Joshua’s example defines what believers today should choose in their quest to follow God faithfully and obediently. Both Moses and Joshua were born as slaves and died the leaders of a free nation. That is what God can do for us - how richly he can bless us - provided we strive to live in a way that he approves, which means doing things his way and not our own, which requires us to cultivate humility - which doesn't mean thinking less of yourself - it means thinking of yourself less. Ironically, both Moses and Joshua were 80 years old when they were chosen to lead the nation of Israel. Edit: I have often looked at their respective ages, 80 years old, and for them to still have the vigor to have led the nation of Israel at such an age, I at first thought that people back then aged significantly slower than they do now, as in 80 years old was maybe more equivalent to being 50 years old. But then I thought to myself how Deuteronomy says that age of 120 years old that: "Moses eyes had not grown dim, nor had his vital strength fled," and then how in the book of Joshua, Caleb said to Joshua that at 85 years old he was still ready and able for battle, when it came to recieving his inheritance. To me, that says it wasn't nothing special in particular from a physical perspective that Moses, Joshua, and Caleb had in their old age, but rather because God was with them, and gave them the strength and vitality to do what was needed, and because these men were faithful to God, God blessed them with such strength.
This is a very appreciated character study of Josua. I thank God for the stories and the germs in the written Word, but in Listening and watching each had deep value. Bringing daily depth. As a older person in my 70+ yrs. Being God's Deciple believing like Josua when most thought in my country believing the wrong. Not trusting God but Religeon. Seeing a 30 + yrs destruction in greed in violance, in attacking God's people with arrogance. Only God when such try to sacrifice all people. Where GOD nead soldiers That are Shephard yet also Fathful Obediant Soldiers. Hard workers to unite and act through Trusting a prayerful God-fearing Leader Obeying God in total Trust. God never changed. All of us are valuable God look at the heart, not at genger, or Strength of humans. Who GOD choose is of wisdom, Knowledge, Insight, constant testing of such leaders faithful OBEDIANCE and Holy Spirit fruitfulness in GOD, 'S sight reflecting Christ. JESUS HIS Son. Such so in all nations, languages, tribes, families, household, couples and to individual.To fear GOD in knowledge who GOD Is who we are who and what God listen, hear, watch and saw, to, see,What to GOD think of us and we an know God Love us more do than us God.
