What I am about to say is completely true: I was not born unto a household where God was EVER spoken about in any manner. When I became old enough to question such topics, I quickly became an atheist. Eventually, I even became an antitheist. Almost 2 years ago (Writing in October Anno Domini 2024), when I was 32 years of age, The Lord began calling to me every single day, and in increasingly more unmistakable ways. He gave me a choice between becoming a soldier of His on earth (Meaning that I would constantly face evil directly all of the time for the rest of my life. But also, meaning that I would always have Him with me.) and rejecting Him (Meaning that He would abandon me for eternity no matter what I ever did.). I obviously realized that God needed me for something in particular, something which I had always sorta 'sensed' my entire life, but never allowed myself to believe. He needed me to be a soldier for Him here on earth. But, it was my choice to accept it, and I did so while knowing full-well that it meant a rough, terrifying future for me. The reason I bring this up is because my name is Joshua. I am the son of Atonia, which means "Strong as oak" in Hebrew. And I kid you not that I had ZERO knowledge of the fact that the Joshua of The Holy Bible was also a soldier of God until literally just now. I did not even know what my name means until literally just now either. I am currently still in the process of learning scripture and today is the day that I finally chose to learn about the man whose name I was given (it has been nearly 2 years and I had not chosen to learn this particular part of The Holy Bible until now, which is mainly because I have been focused on arming myself with the knowledge that God needs me to know for whatever it is that is going to come my way first.). And not that I have had a crisis of faith at all (If you knew how He confronted me, you would understand why that simply would not happen), but it truly shows me that I was given this particular name because I was chosen to be a soldier for Him, which demonstrates to me God's true power. I wonder why they portray a man of God as being so angry looking - God's people should reflect the God they serve - I acknowledge this was a time of much physical conflict but God shapes our character and that should show outwardly in our attitude & expression. As European/British ancestry I’d appreciate seeing illustrations based on the ethnicity of these precious people not as “ Westerners” As Christians it behoves us to acknowledge Jesus did not have blue eyes, light brown hair or fair skin.
