We've been using this set up for pota with a camera tripod for 5 years, and I have no idea why anyone bothers with anything else as far as verticals go that are usually three times the price and you're getting absolutely nothing more. Great video!
I've used the antenna, coil, radials and mount mounted to a medium sized camera tripod that I got for $3 at a yard sale for about 4 years doing Pota. Many others spent way more than the $100 I spent at the time, and did not get as good results, and eventually got the 17 foot whip and put it on their wrc or whatever. It's the best. So glad I didn't have more money, lol. I skipped all the other really expensive gear that wouldn't do better anyway.
Great video. Nice, simple and effective to boot. I use the same type of mount, or one that clamps to a picnic table with my old Texas BugCatcher coil from my mobiling days.
On my most recent trip with my RV I used a deep cycle battery. Not the best. I just finished a review on a new battery box that I plan to use going forward. Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/UtB9j16Mf-U/w-d-xo.html I like the 710. The excellent receiver really makes a difference in my opinion. I had been using an FT-450D. Cheers.
Don't forget to take a hammer out to the field to drive the spile in like I did 😞 I use this antenna and two MFJ-2289 KIT as shown on my QRZ page. Thanks 4 sharing, 73 N6WIP
Yeah, not so much. There are only so many ways to do a loaded hf vertical. They are quite different in design and component quality. There is a reason why the Buddistick is more than twice as expensive. This MFJ antenna is a good value for the price, though.

Gracias 👍
How do you power your FT-710 when you to POTA? Are you happy with the new FT-710?

Mfj recommends a 90° connector helps prevent interference.
