Joe, you neglect to mention that Facebook ads are very expensive, its far cheaper to test products on Etsy. Shopify+Facebook ads is a guaranteed way to lose money for newbies who don't have market knowledge. The real problem with Etsy is copycats and TH-cam gurus who encourage new sellers to copy bestsellers.
Also, stop saying tshirts are saturated, niches are what's saturated. yes, the margins on tshirts are low but it is an evergreen product and can be a cash cow in the right niche.

People that give up quickly on Etsy will also fail at their own website. That’s because they don’t do the proper research about what sells, what niche to pick and they try to rely on organic traffic from Etsy which you can no longer do. Also a lot of them don’t read Etsy rules and get kicked off. Also don’t research SEO and are not patient. They think they will get sales as soon as they add listings but it takes a long time for the algorithm to index your listings and stores. Just like it takes google about a year to index a new store. If you have an Etsy shop, you should also have your own website. Most pod sellers are breaking Etsy rules by taking art from somewhere and slapping it on a shirt and acting like it’s hand made. Etsy rules clearly state that you have to have a hand in some part of making the item. Moving text over art that isn’t yours isn’t making anything.

Do you currently have an Etsy shop that is producing consistent profits of $1k or more per month?

No I don’t, but most Etsy sellers don’t make much on that platform. In my current Etsy shop which I’ve had since 2016, I used to make about 1,000 in profit per month from making iron on transfers but it took me a long time to figure out what I needed to do and I still kept my full time job. Clearly with that amount of work and not really a lot of money, I call it a side hustle. I now sell png art for sublimation so I am starting over in a pretty saturated market.

    Hi Joe, it's Folks here!
I completely agree with you. I started POD with over 50 shirts design and built my own store. After uploading 5 designs I immediately realized that I needed to be more creative and find out what people in my niche are looking for. I did. Now I'm creating those products. As for my shirts. I will still publish all of them, but not with the same importance like when I started out.
Great video!! If people follow your advice they'll eventually be successful.

I can't tell if you're right or not, but I like what you said because I just opened an etsy account and was trying to put up my first listing, but the page wouldn't let me sign up for etsy payments, so I didn't finish it and I waited until the next day, to see, with a bitter surprise, that my account had been definitively suspended!!! WTF???...
I appealed, but they told me that it would take nine days to give me an answer, so I searched on Shopify and I found the sweet surprise that they have a promotion, and I can have a free trial of 3 days and also 3 months paying only one dollar for each month!!!
That was like a sign from the universe, so I started on Shopify just two days ago, and I'm glad life almost forced me to.

I think you shouldn't say STOP/DON'T sell T-shirts because the T-shirt will live on forever, and instead inform those who watch your vids to consider adding unique products to their shop to increase sales. Famous cosmetic brand Bobbi Brown's --EX husband told her that launching a cosmetic brand in an already "red ocean" of cosmetic brands was a horrible idea. She sold that brand for $75M. But I also understand that the title and content of your vids draw curious viewers like myself! LOL

Keep in mind that 99% of Bobbi Brown's cosmetics sales came from her NAME recognition and built-in million subscriber social media accounts. That exact same cosmetic item would wither on the vine in 99% of no-name sellers even at 1/5th of her price.

Hey Joe! I completely agree on the Etsy part. Definitely the sales numbers have fallen and competition has increased. As soon as any of the products or designs are getting popular, immediately others steal the design and replicate it for a cheaper price. Moreover, there is also a lot of cheating going on. Also, let's not forget that some of the POD companies are on Etsy as well, so how do you expect to compete with them?

Hi Joe, I completely agree with you that we need high profit products. However CPA in facebook ads increased too much this year, actually doubled. In Q4 2022 it costs almost 40-50$ to sell 1 product with facebook ads. Do you still think it is possible to find a POD product with that high profit margin?

Etsy listing fee is $0.20/design or products. Listing 100 designs, Etsy earns $20. If we dont get any sell, still etsy can make money! The best model for etsy but for us! damaging!

Etsy actually started to be a place where the individual craftsman or craftswoman could sell homemade or small shop items such as crochets, handmade jewelry, and single art pieces that were 100% human created and produced. And now, it is filled up with junk just like the other print on demand sites, and I wish that Etsy would start a "Classic Etsy" section that separated itself from this model. That way, POD sellers can have a better opportunity to set themselves apart from other POD competition, and not have to worry about the non-POD (classic) sellers.
