John Mellencamp performs "Small Town" and "Rain on the Scarecrow" live at the Farm Aid concert in Mansfield, Massachusetts on September 20, 2008. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's board of directors in 2001.

Wonderful sounding rendition of Small Town, and Beyond Amazing preformance on Rain on the Scarecrow, bit picky on that song varying at all from the studio... but its done like he put everything remaining into it, strong, proud, and ment to leave a legacy. just an observation, john is playing in em while everyone else is playing in f#m. i actually came here to see how he plays it so i could cover it in my sets as it is a great song it seems as though he is letting the band do the playing while he concentrates on the vocal part and using his guitar as a prop. not a critique just an observation.
