Even though I’ve seen S1 and S2, plus the hardcore survival guide, and I’m later in the game progression, I just love watching these videos, I can always learn something new when it comes to infos like ancient debris generation or building advice. 😊❤
New to Minecraft- play now with my Grandson - and your videos have allowed me to solicit “wow frama, how did you know that?” That’s high praise. Thanks for the hard work you do on editing. I look forward to my relax time and no real world stress. Enjoy the weekend!
I have a theory - fortune pick is more likely to hit ores with xp, whereas silk pick has no chance of mending-repairs, therefore silk pick benefits more from the added durability of netherite. I keep fortune as diamond so it's immediately obvious which pick is the WRONG ONE to break the ender chest! I try to follow through with other tools - netherite = silk, diamond = fortune. I wish there was another visual way to personalise tools!
Thanks, that is a good tip that I will be implementing in my games, very useful especially the ender chest thing ... I have fortuned my ender chest too many times!
I used to do this, but now with the upgrade cost and my bad habit of breaking picks it doesn't feel worth it. Customising tools according to enchantment would be fantastic.
Coming here straight from the podcast, I just wanted to say that even when I feel like I know everything there is to know about a topic you are covering, I almost always learn something new and I always enjoy episodes of the survival guide. As a mentor in my server to family and friends playing who are not as experienced, it's always very nice to be able to point to your videos and recommend them as a detailed breakdown. In many ways I find these episodes just as entertaining as hermitcraft or empires or many of the other SMPs out there, but it's because of you and the way you lay out your videos. Thank you so much and never assume that your survival guide doesn't provide much to your seasoned followers!
I love how most of the comments are about people saying they are long time Minecraft players but still love watching the survival guide. It’s so heart warming. Pix you truly have a great community here. 😊
When adding netherite to my tools: I will upgrade my Silk Touch axe, pick, shovel, and hoe to help me remember which is which. This is especially important when using a pickaxe on an enderchest.
Thxs Pixs. Learn a lot. Taking the time to explain What, Why and How sets your channel above the rest. Also, the disruption has allowed time for me to watch season 2.
Having used all three methods for a while, here's my review of the three methods: Branchmining method: By simply buying Efficiency II or greater diamond pickaxes from toolsmiths, and digging two block wide tunnels along every chunk border. I find this the cheapest, quickest and safest method. The tunnels are manageable and making them is basically effortless, and diamond pickaxes can be very cheap. You miss a lot of ancient debris but i think the speed makes up for it, plus this method has the advantage of being able to be cleared out using explosives later if you wish. Tnt method: Assuming you have a gunpowder farm and shovels capable of instamining sand, this method is very reliable and uncovers a large area. I find the process of placing and lighting tnt as well as navigating the exploded tunnels a bit tedious, though. Overall a quick, relatively safe, but expensive method. Bed method: By having a sheep farm and wood to be able to carry more beds, or simply buying them from shepherd villagers. This method uncovers the largest area out of the three, but the process of placing the bed and exploding it safely, as well as crafting beds every so often, are very tedious. The craters made by this methods are extremely precarious, as well. I find this a relatively cheap method for early game especially, but extremely precarious and rather slow method. Overall I think the branch mining method is the best, and if you feel the need of uncovering all the ancient debris in an area, you can explode the 2x2 tunnels at a later date with another method.
Quick tip for lava in nether tunnels for those of us who aren't quick to switch to our building blocks: you don't need your shield down there, place a stack of netherrack in your off hand and you can quickly right click to block off the lava!
This is a good tip but I prefer to use pickblock on the wall to get a block into your hand like pix did in the video at 6:46 . As long as you have the material in your inventory it will pop into your hand and you can place it right away ;)
Quick tip for bed mining - Bring some doors with you. If you stand inside a door, especially a warped door that is fireproof, fire won't spawn at your feet and lava won't fall on top of you and will instead go around the door. This gives you more time to block lava streams and lets you avoid taking fire damage.
I personally find that the best way to mine for ancient debris is just to mine along chunck borders but - with an efficiency 5 pickaxe in netherrack - you can instantly mine the blocks and so it's really easy (and fun) to just dig a wider tunnel. It's not as pretty as a 2x1 tunnel as you can just go absolutely ham with it but i find that either the bed or tnt method are just way too messy for me.
Big life tip that ive learned the hard way from...always bring flint and steel to the nether. If a ghast somehow destroys ur portal, at least ur not stuck trying to find another in a chest somewhere in the nether
I would like to point out a statement made 15:32.. upgrading the hoe because it’s fun.. There are a lot of people who grind this game.. playing as efficiently as possible.. making farms as optimal as possible.. and sometimes even shaming others for not progressing as that same pace or playing as efficiently.. and that can at worse lead to cyber bullying.. I am an advocate of playing games how you want.. they are intended to be FUN.. and your playing style kind of teaches the same.. doesn’t matter how you play or progress.. as long as you’re having fun.. and it not just Minecraft.. that should apply to all games.. THANK YOU for that.. I’ve followed you since the HermitCraft Recaps.. and I love your Survival and SkyBlock series..
I haven’t dared intentionally go digging for ancient debris yet, but found a couple blocks of it purely by chance while digging tunnels above Y:32. Even there I’m always very nervous about stumbling across lava sources.
Great video as usual, including how to deal with less-than-optimal mining environment. As you plunge down into the depths of the nether to level 14 and optimal cinnabon (debris) hunting. I prefer to use the same 'left hand drive' torch placing while branch mining like done here. Congratulations on your Serious Dedication! Sometimes you just need to play the game for fun. The next nearest bastions I've found exploring are two Hoglin stables and Piglin apartment complex. The apartments are 1,000 blocks southwest of the treasure bastion, quite too far out of the way. Piglin Apartments have as much loot and gold as the Treasure bastion, including trims and other items. But that Treasure bastion has the unique magma cube spawner, something very useful for builders with access to frogs.
I like using the 2x2 checkerboard method that you previously used for ancient debris, no . I also like to collect and smelt all of the nether rack into nether bricks using buckets of lava as well, as I use them for red nether brick builds that I have.. And a 2x tnt duper bouncing off of progressively lower floors of obsidian can make short work of a wide area. Or just clear out a perimeter for a wither skeleton farm. You are sure to find a few ancient debris by clearing such a big space to bedrock. And bamboo scaffolding works great to displace and clear lava with in large quantities, although it will burn in item form. You can also use buckets to ferry lava back to your smelters.
I learned quickly to use torches for wayfinding when mining. On my way away from base, torches always go on the left wall. So when its time to return, I follow torches that are now on the right. Intersections with the main path get a torch on the floor in the center in my overly strip mined areas. I try the same theory with these massives caves but its a bit tougher! 😅
I find it worth noting that if you're mining in the Nether, and you have Mending on your tool, the quartz deposits are plentiful and give a good amount of XP back, so if your durability is running low, you can hit the quartz for at least a little renewal. Also, a diamond pickaxe with Efficiency V will tear through Netherrack like a hot knife through soft butter, so you can really clear a lot of space very very quickly... (see above about durability though!)
My personal favourite way to netherite mine is to dig a 2 by 1 hole. The go back along it with an efficiency 5 (although I think 4 also works), instamining the netherrack along the walls 5 blocks deep. You get to cover an 11 block wide radius very easily. Because you can just hold A or D along with left click and take out the row. Nice and easy. And you don’t have to fiddle around with beds or grind for TNT.
I like digging a 1x2 tunnel until I hit a lava lake. I'll then go back walking sideways and clearing out a 1 block high swarth of netherrack, and then head back in taking out the blocks on the other side until I reach the lava lake again, where I'll either turn 90 degrees or make another parallel line about 10 blocks over.
Hey Pixl, nice to see you are starting to cover yourself with the "good stuff". Also I don't like the bed method to find the ancient debrie. TNT is better. Thanks for the eps, till the next one. Cheers
My fav on the netherite has to be copper (and amethyst, but I'm biased toward purple, lol). I think the copper accents the netherite so nicely though. I've had so much fun playing with the trims.
Thanks for the great tutorials. I forget which video it was, buy your iron-rich Tough vein’s tip just got me almost a double chest’s worth of smelted iron. Just in time to try to start working on the red stone item sorting system from the last couple of videos. I have plenty of iron for the hoppers and I’ll probably use a minecart to deliver to the chests!
Netherite's resistance to fire also extends to durability, by the way - netherite armour doesn't lose durability if it absorbs fire damage for you (from fire, lava, campfires, etc.)
Love your videos, is there any change that you could explain how you add on the durability that you can see on your items ??? it seems to me that I done not have that function. Keep us posted :)
diamond full-fire-resistance armour will let you swim in lave, however, the damage you are taking, goes to the armour instead, an it will eventually break. netherite armour, being fireproof, protects you from lava without taking damage itself. Just keep up your food saturation and get used to the constant "ow I'm burning" sounds from your avatar.... golden carrots will keep you safe until they run out
Me and my brother dug in a 1x2 straight line to get to a bastion that was about 2000 blocks away, and just with that tunnel we found like 37 ancient debris.
I found that there was enough xp from the gold and quartz to keep my mending pick from breaking while I branch mined an absurd portion of the Nether. Explosives in the Nether seem to make a huge lava mess that eats good blocks and takes more time to clean up than an Eff V pick. One wrong step and you set yourself on fire. It is probably better above the lava lake level, but ancient debris spawn rates are lower there. I would love to see a sculk farm on the Nether roof. Basalt is by far the fastest generated material to feed a sculk catalyst. The bottleneck on other generated stones is the flow rate of lava. In the Nether, lava flows like water. This means that basalt can generate much faster in the Nether than stone or cobblestone in the overworld. An Enderman drop-killer can be constructed on the roof of a warped forest so that it feeds a sculk catalyst & basalt farm. Pistons can feed a steady stream of fresh basalt, as the drop-killer feeds a steady stream of xp. I think that a mining system like the 2-piston Silk Touch stone farm could be used to gather the sculk-or a similar system.
I’m not sure the math actually works out for chunk borders mattering; you get a chance at two different veins but it’s a smaller chance. Could be wrong though. And I prefer TNT for blast mining because it can ignite in a chain so I’m not near it, and it doesn’t start fires.
The change in netherite armor crafting made it SO MUCH more tedious. Mojang seems to be going the Blizzard/Diablo route and just nerfing the game to make processes worse in an attempt to solve “balance” issues that don’t exist. Between the netherite armor change and the upcoming villager trading changes … I’m feeling pretty bleak about the future of Minecraft updates.
This is super late but you are doing the bed method slightly wrong. You want a block directly in front of your feet as that is where the blast damage is calculated. You can basically dig a 1 wide hole at head height and when detonating the bed take almost no blast damage, you can sometimes still catch fire if you don't use a resistance potion though.
I gotta say that Pix is the only thing keeping me motivated in my survival world, when i dont know what to do in the world, i can always just check out the survival guide. I love it so much Pix!!!
Making this series is also a great motivator for me - it really helps me consider every feature in Minecraft, how it's useful, and what makes it special.
Probably an important point to make...Netherite armor doesn't burn...however, that isn't true of the contents (aka, YOU). :-) The wearer is still as flammable as always. :-)
I don’t play survival mode, only dealing in creative mode, and because of that I never realized how expensive netherite is, especially with the new update 😬 yikes
I prefer straight line mining in a large nether waste biome. I go until I hit a large lava pocket or a basalt delta, then I mine to the side for three blocks and then straight line back parallel to my first tunnel. Then just repeat back and forth skipping two blocks between tunnels. No costly TNT. No bed damage. Small lava pockets are easily dealt with or avoided by going around them. Hoglins can't spawn in a 1 wide tunnel. Of course this method is best when you have an Efficiency V, netherite pick-axe. What does everyone else prefer to do?
I dug a shaft down from my nether hub just below the ceiling ( I like the look of the exposed bedrock as a ceiling :)), and started branch mining at 15. I go in one cardinal direction till I hit a large lava lake, then dig poke holes off it on either side every third block. I then extend the poke holes into branch tunnels till I hit lava again, and when I've run out of options for that direction, I do the same in the next cardinal direction. I've not updated to 1.20 yet, as I've not braved a bastion so far, and want to get one full set of netherite armour and tools to do so. Then I'll hit the update and get hunting for trims :)
on bedrock edition, fire resistance will not make your character model on fire. i didn't realize that wasn't the case on java. it must be annoying to have that fire covering half of your screen even with fire resistance
I’m one of those crazy players that do strip mining to find ancient debris!!!… Surprisingly, I find a lot of debris! Mining each 2 blocks horizontally and 5 blocks upwards… Curious to know what you guys think of that! 😅
Het Pix? Don't you think that the 'how did we get there' achievement is practically impossible now that the darkness effect can only be gotten from a shrieker generated in the deep dark or the ancient city. We can't get it if we just placed the shrieker along with the setup. I mean it IS impossible to take an elder guardian and a shulker into the depth of the caves.
You can also use a warden disabler on a naturally generated deep dark shrieker so at least there’s no possibility of warden generating while doing the advancement
I think if it was introduced this way in 1.16 it wouldn't be so annoying, but the real issue is the exclusivity to bastions--making Netherite locked to random loot from bastions is sure to cause issues on multiplayer
It does make it a little more 'exclusive' but I don't mind this, though as you point out if on a multiplayer server it could be a pain if a pvp style server. If just with friends then you could feasibly trade for a template.
@@gxactnot really. Unless you have a player who gets a thrill out of looting every bastion asap and then holding back the templates. Even if they try to sell it to you for an arm and a leg, they might only make a profit from the first sale, as you can make a copy of a copy of a copy. As soon as a single template is out in the public they will multiply and be eventually dirt cheap (comparitively speaking, they still cost 7 diamonds to make). Many servers supply a master template that everyone is free to duplicate. I consider being on a server to have higher accessibility to the template as only one person needs to find one.
Imagine saying something is unnatural in unrealistic sandbox videogame like Minecraft, like, c'mon, he mining for a resource that doesn't exist in real life in another dimension, basically analog of Hell 😂 Well, maybe you meant it's unnatural because lava should be deadly from the game design point. However, potions were added ages ago, so it's 'legal' and 'natural' to do this since the release of the game for over a decade now.
@gyldanword well, if you think everyone has the same opinion on what humor really is that's on you. Personally I didn't find your comment somewhat funny or ironic, maybe it's impaired sense of humour or maybe there just wasn't anything funny or ironic there, either way it's just opinions ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
hey, this is kind of random but can you pls give me some advice on how you got your channel started up? i e just recently created mine and im looking for some feedback.
I just made the videos I wanted to, I had a max of 150 subscribers for the first couple of years. Most of my views probably came from other people on the SMP I joined. After that, I started making small tutorials for details created with armour stands, and basic redstone contraptions. I got a shoutout from OMGChad and things grew very quickly for a few weeks, then slowly again until one of my 'One Chunk' build tutorials became very popular. TH-cam is all about slow and steady growth, then dealing with sudden spikes in activity if one of your videos hits suggested. The most important thing is to make the kind of videos you enjoy, because if you like it, there's probably other people out there who like it too
@@Pixlriffs I first found you from Decidedly Vanilla, and loved your brick factory building :) Been subbed ever since, and still learn stuff from the survival guide now. Love your work :D
THIS is one of those changes (from upgrades to Minecraft) that I REALLY don't like! Maybe I am just "low skill", and while I understand WHY it was implemented, I always felt that; upgrading to Netherite was sufficiently challenging "as it"! (Not "very", but still takes a bit of effort.) Without the "Netherite trim", one could pursue or ignore armor trim ENTIRELY (or not) as one prefers. THIS effectively FORCES a player to use the armor trim mechanic. Still, excellent episode Pixlriffs! You explained it very well. (as usual) Oh, and I usually PLACE a "tougher" block (like cobblestone) in front of me to crouch behind when I use the "bed mining" method in the Nether. It's not a guarantee, but it DOES seem to be 'safer'.
Wait.. you need a netherite smithing template to upgrade netherite equipment now? Why does Mojang insist on making this game as needlessly grindy for absolute no reason.
Their explanation was that it keeps players from upgrading straight to Netherite after acquiring diamond. Debris was relatively easy to acquire - and still is - but there's some additional risk/reward now. I think it also meant the Smithing Table mechanics stay consistent after the addition of armor trim, and it shows the smithing templates can be used for more than just cosmetics in future.
Also, while I'm not 100% positive, I believe this was their goal all along. Maybe not the exact implementation, but I think they wanted users to have to use the smithing table with some level of "difficulty" before being able to jump from diamond to netherite. Just think they weren't able to, or not ready to, implement it when netherite was initially introduced.
Glad to see the internet back online😂

Having used all three methods for a while, here's my review of the three methods:
Branchmining method: By simply buying Efficiency II or greater diamond pickaxes from toolsmiths, and digging two block wide tunnels along every chunk border.
Thanks for this detailed guide!

@arthurfleck629 you should use pick block, you can always use that as long as there is netherrack in your inventory
It would be cool if there was some sort of lava night vision potion so you could search the floor of the lava lakes for ancient debris.
Quick tip for bed mining -
Bring some doors with you. If you stand inside a door, especially a warped door that is fireproof, fire won't spawn at your feet and lava won't fall on top of you and will instead go around the door. This gives you more time to block lava streams and lets you avoid taking fire damage.

And I prefer TNT for blast mining because it can ignite in a chain so I’m not near it, and it doesn’t start fires.
on our realm, Y 15 is just a huge cavern for about 500 blocks in every direction
Ive liked diamond and lapis trims on my netherite armor. Not tried copper yet
First! Glad to see netherite upgrades...
Shout out to grians nether prank in the upside down 😂 "can you sleep?"
19:40 The one item entity that can't be blown up is Nether Stars!
Good morning, Pix!
I don’t play survival mode, only dealing in creative mode, and because of that I never realized how expensive netherite is, especially with the new update 😬 yikes
To fill a lava túnel. Just use scafolding. It erases lava
I just use the bed method. I also find a bit when making my nether hub.
Don't know why, but seeing you with the Pick and the Hoe at the end, my first thought was "comrade Pixlriffs"
0:09 NNNNOOOOOOOoOOO my Alexriffs 😢😢😢😢😢😢😪😪😪😪
Wouldn't be the silk-touch pick be the better choice to do first, given that when you fortune ore you get the XP to repair it directly anyways?
Chunk finder on Java sounds nice.
I suggest you should build a creeper redstone type farm to obtain mass amounts of gunpowder to craft tnt to find netherite in the near future.
Warden attacks ignore armor if I'm correct...
on bedrock edition, fire resistance will not make your character model on fire. i didn't realize that wasn't the case on java. it must be annoying to have that fire covering half of your screen even with fire resistance
Hey Pix. Thanks for the amazing content me as a small TH-cam looks up to your content to keep me motivated. thanks
A pix upload on tuesday? What is this crazy wonderful world?!
do you plan on making a netherite beacon this season as well?
"Pickslriffs" - clever
I wonder whether it's faster to get a full set of netherite gear from wool and wood or gunpowder and sand in a fresh world.
Wool and wood for sure. Bed mining is so much more resource friendly
Lookin' fancy
Yea! Internet. Basically quick compared to USA Did wifey get her episodes out?
I’m one of those crazy players that do strip mining to find ancient debris!!!… Surprisingly, I find a lot of debris! Mining each 2 blocks horizontally and 5 blocks upwards… Curious to know what you guys think of that! 😅
Nice! Only 3 years late! 👍
Okay, I know that netherite makes your tools fireproof but when you threw that pickaxe in lava I synched up! 😅😅
i just have a bad feeling this might end up like S2 and Hardcore 🙃
I haven’t switched to 1.20 yet but had a question, duplicating smithing templates, are you able to bulk craft?
If you have bulk diamonds and netherrack, yes.
@@ManosSef thanks
Though it's definitely not impossible to move a warden to your setup anywhere else. (Or a shulker and an elder guardian to the deep dark anyway.)
You can also use a warden disabler on a naturally generated deep dark shrieker so at least there’s no possibility of warden generating while doing the advancement
You're awesome!
Didn't realise there was now a template for netherite, what a pain. Why make it even more expensive
That pickaxe took a while to surface from the lava pool 😢
If you don't hear a hissing sound, it means the item wasn't destroyed :)
@@PixlriffsI recommend watching ImpulseSVs more event Hermitcraft episodes and his liberal throwing stuff into his lava forge behavior! XD
I’m confused. Can’t you just put your tool in a smithing table with a netherite Ingot to upgrade?
Not any more! When they added armor trims in 1.20, they changed the Netherite upgrade mechanics to require one of these upgrade templates.
Hey pix is there an episode tommorow
I don't think I'll ever stop hating swimming in lava. It's unnatural...
Imagine saying something is unnatural in unrealistic sandbox videogame like Minecraft, like, c'mon, he mining for a resource that doesn't exist in real life in another dimension, basically analog of Hell 😂
Well, maybe you meant it's unnatural because lava should be deadly from the game design point. However, potions were added ages ago, so it's 'legal' and 'natural' to do this since the release of the game for over a decade now.
@@emperor_putenskiy You obviously have an impaired sense of humor...
@gyldanword well, if you think everyone has the same opinion on what humor
really is that's on you. Personally I didn't find your comment somewhat funny or ironic, maybe it's impaired sense of humour or maybe there just wasn't anything funny or ironic there, either way it's just opinions ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I always upgrade tools before armor...
On bedrock you can add netherite to gold I did it before
hey, this is kind of random but can you pls give me some advice on how you got your channel started up? i e just recently created mine and im looking for some feedback.
We can't see chunk borders in Bedrock.
Riffin on a Tuesday night
With how rare netherite is, thats bs to require the template to use it.
Or you could use the x-ray resource pack
Where're the blurry clips at the end?
Sometimes I forget to edit them in. Doesn’t matter since they’re really just there to provide a background for TH-cam end cards
It became hard to get~~
Can you obtain a mob head in the near future please
In the near future, sure! Can't guarantee when, though - it's easier now we have lightning rods, but waiting for thunderstorms is kinda painful
Kaboom!
Hello!

@@pufferwolf best way to start the morning 🤝🏾😂with Pixelriffs 🤝🏾🤣🤣
THIS is one of those changes (from upgrades to Minecraft) that I REALLY don't like!
Maybe I am just "low skill", and while I understand WHY it was implemented, I always felt that; upgrading to Netherite was sufficiently challenging "as it"! (Not "very", but still takes a bit of effort.)
Without the "Netherite trim", one could pursue or ignore armor trim ENTIRELY (or not) as one prefers.
THIS effectively FORCES a player to use the armor trim mechanic.
Still, excellent episode Pixlriffs! You explained it very well. (as usual)
Oh, and I usually PLACE a "tougher" block (like cobblestone) in front of me to crouch behind when I use the "bed mining" method in the Nether.
3 netherite ingots
1 hr gang
wake up babe, internet went out but it's back on. And a new survival guide episode just dropped.
