    I had the old clickers when I was instructing back in the day and loved them, they had a bad rep for getting snow packed, but I literally had zero issues, ever. If you just want quick in and out, it's hard to beat. I just picked up a set of the Burtons and Photon boots, same deal.... they just work... Traditional bindings will still be the go to for hard core park junkies that want the added range of motion in the connection rather than all in the boot fit, it all just comes down to what you want out of a boot/binding and what the riders actual skill level is.

    Good point on the back problems. Speaking from personal experience those step-ins can be really helpful. Also, there are places in the world where the runs are super short (less than 1 minute) and you need to be in and out of your bindings all the time.

    I'm a snowboard patroller and will be riding those this season after many seasons using Flow bindings. They look promising to me as I can have to take off and put my board on easily 15 to 20 times per shift. Also the quickiness to step in compared to the Flow is big a plus to me when having to rush to an emergency, or even taking out the rear foot and being able to push yourself through a flat part of the mountain and step back in

I live near the slopes and i switched to flow not for the easy entry but for performance and comfort and i have to say after having bashed them for years , i am very impressed. The performance with the cuffs off is better than any binding I have ever used in over 30 years. When I got back into winter sports in 2016 I bought a set because I loved this too. Well after 4 seasons of messing with snow pack in the bottom of the boot either on the chair or out in the woods where I had to take back foot out and ripping the soles off 2 sets of boots because the tops are just glued to the sole with 1" of material and all your turning force pulls the tops from the bottom I had had enough of that. But I was really going to miss clicking in while on the chair.
      I demoed and bought a set of the Burton Step Ons. 1st ride up the chair and I figured out how to "click in" while riding! They're worth 5 chairs of time vs straps. None of the k2 boot/binding issues either. The board feel is amazing in comparison and walking in them is so much easier around the lodge. Stay away from this K2 junk. The Burton's destroy them.

  • @randomabidingdude
    @randomabidingdude 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    K2 clickers including the originals (I finally replaced mine from '04) are great for technical riders (a true hybrid of a soft boot vs alpine). Those who like precision control in both toe and heel turn, when you dial the correct tightness for you - they generally don't need to be adjusted all day - meaning your feet stay far more comfortable. Comfy feet + cardio / resistance training + altitude = all day rides.
    The current '22s Kinsley's I have seem to "loosen" but they don't, the outer hard shell slips past the felt when it gets sweaty and/or wet, letting it slip further past the inner liner - which requires you to tighten it up a bit.

    I’m aging myself a bit here, but when I first started riding they had step in bindings that almost always came on rental gear... it was so crappy... always getting packed with snow and would fail constantly... the boots were also special for that type of bindings and were much harder than your normal strap binding boot... the burton system seems to have solved at least one of these flaws by having several clicks in which you can actually put them on with powder crammed on the boot or bringing and still go, but these seem like you had them failing not even on a pow day... I’ll prob stick to my traditional setup for now as it gives me more freedom on boots, but I do hope the continue working on the tech

    • @GLHNSLHT2
      @GLHNSLHT2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yep the K2 system will always have snow pack in the boot issues. The Burton's don't. I've never once had to brush the bottom of my boot off. If there is snow in the binding it won't affect you getting "locked in" or you can quickly brush it out to get the 2nd position of engagement. My burton photons take about 6 full days of riding to break in. The k2's clicker boots I used were similar and just as they fully broke in the sole would start to rip off from the boot.

      @@teacherguy5084 I used them for 3 seasons, was always digging snow out of the bottom of the boots in all kinds of snow conditions. My kids were in their straps and waiting on me all the time if we had to get out of our bindings for one reason or another. In 3 seasons I went through 2 pairs of boots because they're design rips the soles apart from the main boot. And 1 pair of bindings because the aluminum tab that holds the release rod to the binding broke. K2 wouldn't warranty the 400+ dollar boots. But the local ski shop did get my 200 dollar bindings swapped. K2 was going to warranty the 1st pair. I jumped through all their hoops and when I gave them my size after they asked me so they could ship me a new pair they ghosted me. But when you cut a pocket in the bottom of the boot and then stick a metal plate in it things are going to get in there. And if it's cold and freezes or compacts it's going to stay in there until you dig it out. I swapped to step ons after the 2nd pair of boots and have never looked back. They handle so much better. Offer so much better feel and are more comfortable. I've never had snow I've had to dig out. Sweep the binding out of there is snow on it and step on. I've been riding then since Jan 2020 and the boots and bindings look brand new still. I'd have gone through at least 2 more pairs of K2's by now. They're junk. K2'S customer service and warranty is garbage.

    • @GLHNSLHT2
      @GLHNSLHT2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good reason for your customers to be hesitant. They suck and here's why. 1st as you can see in the video is they still have issues with snow buildup in the back of the boot bottom. Sure you can stomp/ollie down multiple times on a nice hard packed run to get it to engage. But try doing that when you're standing in a foot of fresh. It's not happening. You'll have to sit down and dig that out. 2nd that metal plate in the bottom of the boot kills all the board feel you get. I didn't think it would until I rode something else and realised how much it helps your riding. 3rd and my biggest issue is that the boots don't last. All the force in a turn is pulling on the top of the boot. K2's design and manufacturing just glues the top of the boot to the sole with 1" of material. No screws or anything. So after a season and a half the sole rips off the bottom and you're out $400 on boots.

  • @Rixter1455

    When you review the step ons, could you please give pros and cons + Compare and contrast?

    • @GLHNSLHT2
      @GLHNSLHT2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I rode clickers from Jan 2016 to Jan 2020. Liked the feel of them. But after ripping the soles clean off 2 pairs of boots in that time I had had enough. The boots just have the uppers glued to the sole with about an inch of material all the way around. If you remove the liner you can see this. This doesn't work as all the force you put into the bindings comes from the top of the boot. So you're constantly pulling the top of the boot off the sole. Also and you can see in this video the snow pack in the bottom of the boot. This might be ok if you're out on some groomed run. But if you're in deep powder you can't stomp down hard enough to clear it. So you're constantly digging the snow and sometimes hard ice out of the bottom of your boots to get engaged. My daughters and their straps were in faster than I was allot of the time because of it.
      I was able to demo a set of the Burton Step ons at my local mountain. All I can say is WOW what a difference! I didn't realize how much the metal plate in the Clicker boots was limiting board feel and how having that board feel helps your riding. There's no metal between the bottom of your foot and the board. You can feel it flex under your foot. It's so nice. Also the connection points are integrated into the tops of the boots allot better with stitching. I don't see them being able to be pulled off/out of the boot. Snow buildup is a non-issue. If there is some in the bottom of the binding you give a quick brush with the back of your glove and step in. Even if you don't brush it out the system will engage.
      Don't waste you're money on the K2 clicker/Clicker X HB. The burtons kill them all day long.

      I ripped the sole off 2 pair of the non-highback system in 4 years of riding. Though I see this doing the same as the boots are very similar and it's the toe side the rips the soles off. Get the Burtons. No boot sole seperation issues and zero snow pack issues.

      My reason not to get these is that I destroyed 2 sets of $400 boots using the non-highback verson in 4 seasons. Ripped the soles clean off because of toe side turning. The high back will not stop this force. K2 just glues the top of the boot to the sole with 1" of material. All your force pulls the top of the boot from the sole. Also the snow pack in the back location sucks to deal with all the time. Allot of the time you have to dig it out with a pick or knife. I'll never ride the K2 system again.
      Now I went to Burton's Step On system and love it! The boots are much better engineered and constructed so I don't see any issues with the soles seperating. Also there's no snow pack issues. You have board feel which helps your riding instead of a metal plate under foot. Between my family of 3 boarders we have 5 sets so far and will ride them always.

    I remember rentals in the late 90s having K2 clickers. There was a major ice buildup problem and I had friends clear them out w/ ski poles. The new design looks like bigger hook/cleat pieces, so maybe that will be more self-clearing. I remember liking the Stussy's better as a beginner, but now I'd hate all the lateral play. I ended up w/ Burton's first Step-Ins. All 3 of those boots were freaking heavy.

      I'm interested in the Burton Step ons and watched many review video's.
      Never seen a true compare video, but deducting from most of the comments the Burtons are the way to go. Might be a bit pricier but overall they seem more robust than the K2 system (shoe soles letting go after 1,5 season and apparently a terrible customer service on top of that).
      Also, nobody with the Burtons has a problem stepping in with snow,,and this video immediately show's he needs 3 tries to get in after wiping some snow away.
      So for me it's clear at least.
      Ow I even forgot the part that the disconnect system on Burtons seems much more simple and quicker to operate. Also, easy to switch from one side to the other, so the release handle will be in the middle instead of the outside.

      You don't "HAVE" to. I never did up my rear one. Heck most of the time I forgot to do the front one as well. Once you're in you have to rip the sole of the boot off to come out. That being said about a season and a half and that's what starts to happen and you're out $400 in boots.
      Now the Burton step ons eliminate all of this an offer way better board feel and control on top of it. They got it right.

      Are you talking about the fix for the heel cleat? Because that was fixed after the first season ('17). I have had a set of '18 and '19s with around 40+ days each and both are in excellent shape, I only got a second set to downsize my boots. The notorious hotspot issue isn't a thing if you have narrow-normal width feet.
      Performance wise they aren't as stiff as I'd ride normal strap bindings but are much better toe side than any other binding I've had. Honestly unless I'm riding pipe I'm using the stepons they're just so convenient with really no downside.
      Your mileage may vary, these things are killer on 20+ lap days but probably aren't worth it if you're only doing half days or if you're shredding with other boarders that you have to wait on anyhow
