They sell for 100 dollars US & take 4 days to carve so the highly skilled worker would get a fraction of that . In a western environment he could charge a fortune for bespoke pieces
@@terischannel For some reason, the capital to purchase the skills is more valued that the skills themselves. There is no reason that "capitalism" needs (according to some sort of rulebook) to function that way. It's the "emperor has no clothes" phenomenon and no one dares point it out.
@Bill Planey I 100% agree, situations of slave labor should be banned from the planet, saw a vid like this with like 5 guys making a huge metal bowl.. there is no way the product value could support 5 guys and the time it took. ... But ... this particular situation is not capitalism by definition. And even if it was it is not "capatalisms" fault. it's the people abusing it. Any system can be abused by bad actors. The USA has laws in place to protect the workers. These other countries do not. You can argue about minimum wage/living wage, but thats not capitalism fault either. The government over spends, prints money, and lowers our money's value so fast that the economy cannot keep up, wages are always behind, and that's why things that were 50 cents 30 years ago are 5 dollars now.. companies would go out of business if they tried to raise wages and/or prices to get ahead of the govs over spending. Is it better to have a company that can provide jobs, or no work for people?
@@terischannel We value skills, until we're asked to pay for them. If this guy earned a decent wage by the standard of Western developed nations, he'd have to charge about two grand for one of these, and while a lot of us appreciate the skill that goes into this object, not many of us can afford to pay that much.
The skill and the patience of this workman is amazing! What an ancient art still being practiced and what a fabulous result. Wonderful result and thank you so much for showing us this work!
There's nothing more Satisfying than working with a proper sharp tool and the feel of it gliding through the wood with no resistance. Would that I could get my own tools that sharp.
I apologize for my manners. I’m asking questions before respecting. My trade is not a wood worker, but it is a passion of mine. I like to push myself to see what I can make with the tools I own. I do not have a lathe, however, so this limits me from turning wood. You have created a beautiful piece of work. I, myself, can call it a piece of wood art. Because to me, it is art. Again, beautiful work you’ve created. Don’t stop making these. I’d love to see some of your other work. Absolutely fantastic.
Que maravilla fui tornero de madera por muchos años, lo que este caballero ase es maravilloso, esa obra vale mucho dinero, el que la adquiera lleva una obra de arte.
This isn't "how it's done" . It's done by machine by western countries . A piece that size would only take minutes but the skill shown here is remarkable
Круто! Одновременно: и просто и сложно👍. А токарные элементы надо было замотать во что-нибудь, на время работы стамеской. А то все края откололись и помялись, жаль
Looked at your subs, imagining it was gonna be a number in the hundreds of thousands. Wow. Keep going and you'll have a huge channel. This was bonkers and I've never seen anything like it
It’s called a Barley Twist. When carving the strings I have found it much easier to use an out-cannel gouge. Choose one with a radius close to the strings and Bob’s your Uncle - simple. Cheers.
I do some wood turning myself and know how much work goes into this. I am assuming you will have to make another as in one left and one right. Great video thanks for showing
An amazing piece of work using tools that most 1st world woodworkers would dismiss out of hand. Sadly his pay will be minimal … the middlemen make all the $$$$$.
I suppose you could do it with some form of Holzapffel lathe but what a frig to set up ! This is the way that we the everyday hobby turners, are told to do it, which is probably why I don’t !!
Looks and sounds like Pakistan? If that country organised itself properly with the engineering talent, innovation and work ethic there is in that country, they'd be a real force. See all those videos where they rebuild engines in trucks out on the roads with locally manufactured parts, made from scrap. Just astonishing
@@dsrwoodturning2022 Ah very good! I bought a chess set from India I think it was about £220? Something like that. And the carving is absolutely stunning! So I'm not surprised his is India. I hope I didn't cause offence suggesting it might be Pakistan!
Splendid more carved than turned I thought I was going to see complicated screw lathed method but you did it by hand beautiful job
I guess the reason he isn't payed much is that he is competing with someone who has built the CNC machine that can do this in 5mins.
What makes you think a shoeless guy working with hand tools and 1940s machines is underpaid?
@@daveansell1970 tak masz rację, tylko jego dziadek, pradziadek, i wcześniej też nie zarabiali bo nie było to w interesie białego człowieka.
I have a feeling these people don't get paid anything near what they are worth. What an awesome wood worker.
