    Live version of "Lemon" from their '93 Zoo TV Tour performance at Sydney. Same concert has "One". Whole concert is amazing. Anything live from U2 is amazing. They are a great studio band and a great live band. Not many bands are both

    I think you'd enjoy Bono's Mr MacPhisto character, so I recommend Lemon from Sydney 1993, and also Bullet the Blue Sky from that same show. The latter one completely blew me away when I first saw it on DVD as a 15(?) year old. Silver and Gold from their Rattle and Hum movie is also a really memorable performance, The Edge's solo is awesome!

    If you want Lemon, then the best is during the Zoo TV tour, specifically in Sydney. Also from Sydney but from the Vertigo Tour, you should do Kite. This performance should be reacted to both songs but All I Want is You into Where's The Streets Have No Name from Slane Castle. And the last one for an episode should be Love is Blindness from Zoo TV also from Sydney and the same show.

    Im sooo happy you included the concert from Mexico City in this first live reaction. Maybe you remember me telling you about how this was U2s concert just 11 days after what happened to Michael Hutchence. At one point you do owe yourself to watch theyr special version of One from this same concert,simply because it shows the deep love everyone in U2 had for Michael,and Bono dedicated that song to Michael,with some slight changes to the lyrics.
    it has went on to becoming alot of peoples favourite performance ever of that song. I know it has a huge impact on me every time i see it. The connection they make with the crowd is absolutely electrifying. Alot of fans of INXS in that crowd as well,who also felt U2s pain. Absolutely beautiful! Only 2 times i have heard Bonos voice slightly break just for a second,was when he lost his dad,and in Mexico City having to deal with his dear friend Michael not being there anymore. But then Bono just pulls himself together amazingly and is just an outstanding professional to the teeth,and you can tell how The Edge,Larry Mullen and Adam Clayton really wants to perform well in honoring theyr friend. But first of course you need to hear that song in its original sound and context lol.
    I also love how you notice Adam Claytons bass,as he doesnt always get the full recognition and love that he deserves,i have actually seen alot of people bash him. Well,he lets that bass talk for him! Im sure he just shrugs words off him,wich is the way to do it! Adam is amazing,as every member of U2 is. I just love when people point out thoose in the band that doesnt always get the love,as theyr other band members do.
    Im sure Where The Streets Has No Name is from the channel U2 Remastered Videos,they got awhole bunch of performances like that,including that One performance i have been talking about a couple of times. With Or Without You from Boston is iconic and legendary as well,i believe Bono went through the stuff with his dad around then? I cant remember exactly,but i remember he was emotional about something,and that gorgeous woman made him feel comforted and comfortable for a few minutes,so he gave her the best possible "gift" back. You know she has been thinking back on that night,ever since!
    A beautiful bouquet of performances,and a good reaction as always! 🥰

    • @dougman23
      @dougman23 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Adam's bass is often times the musical melody we remember. He plays notes and lets Edge come in over the top with those soundscapes. He used to just write or play (sometimes Edge wrote bass parts) these iconic bass parts, like With or Without You and New Year's Day, where that was what was out front, but he was not a very good bassist, from a timing perspective, as he was largely self taught. So he committed to learning his craft at a time when he was already the bassist in the biggest band in the world, and had no external pressure whatsoever to do so. But he stayed in New York and took lessons (imagine that), really locking into the pocket by Achtung Baby. So now he has these great, melodic parts and he hammers home the beat

    For me the best live stay version!
    Tip: Zoo TV (best tour) Sydney 1993 with The Fly (about TV overkill in the sense of George Orwell) and the song package Even Better Than The Real Thing+Mysterious Ways (what do you say about this performance), as well as the song package Bullet The Blue Sky+Running To Stand Still (so profound lyrics). If you want more wild rock then Unti The End Of The World.
    Have fun with any kind of good music!

  • @Cornerboy73
    @Cornerboy73 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Always a pleasure, thanks for the review. I'm glad you enjoyed these - I think they showcase the inexplicable alchemy these 4 men have, especially in a live performance environment.
    For a future part 2, I think you will find what you're looking for regarding a live performance of "Lemon" from the band's famous Live from Sydney Australia 1993 gig. That show was broadcast around the planet and Bono did it in his full Mr. MacPhisto personae, right after "Daddy's Gonna Pay for Your Crashed Car" (both are worth checking out - it's all very theatrical).
    Another song you will likely enjoy is also from that ZooTV show where Bono sings "Running to Stand Still". It's exceptional and showcases how well he hit those slick falsettos back in the day.
    There's an incredibly intense live version on TH-cam of U2 performing "Exit" in Los Angeles from the Joshua Tree tour. Not sure if that coverage is from an official video or not but it's a real contrast to their 90s and current eras and I think you would be into it. There are official versions from their Rattle and Hum and Paris movies but that LA gig was special. That was a song they eventually stopped playing from 89 to their 2017 Joshua Tree Anniversary Tour as a guy actually murdered someone and said he was influenced by that song. Finally, anything from their Superbowl performance.
    Oh yeah, if you have a crush on Bono, you may be interested in knowing that he has a 23 year-old son named Elijah who looks a lot like his dad at that age. He's the lead singer in a band called Inhaler. They are pretty good too for such a young band, I recommend checking them out as they're becoming pretty popular. Best wishes ~

    I love all your U2 reactions! As far as live suggestions, it would be “The Fly” in Sydney (I think. I know I will get corrected if wrong). And “October/Bullet The Blue Sky” in Paris. As far as studio song, I would love to see you react to “Miss Sarevo” sung with Luciano Pavarotti. The song and video are so beautiful and so powerful.

  • @Pulsar77
    @Pulsar77 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    That performance from Mexico City was cut short. They went on for another 2.5 minutes chanting 'Mexico'. The full version is on youtube, it's a shame they didn't include it on the official channel. Btw, the best songs on that concert are Mysterious Ways/One back to back, which was dedicated to Michael Hutchence from INXS, who had just died.

  • @indie1179

  • @adiarainfoster
    @adiarainfoster ปีที่แล้ว +2

    More live to check out: I know you just did Where the Streets Have No Name, but the best live for that is a combination of All I Want is You which then goes into an amazing transition to Where the Streets Have No Name from Slane Castle. Exit/Gloria Live in Boston 1987 (Rattle and Hum). An Cat Dubh/Into the Heart live at Red Rocks 1983. Love is Blindness live in Sydney from the Zoo TV Tour.
    Exit only has a snippet of Gloria on it. most of the second song isn't there but hearing it tagged onto the end of Exit gave my goosebumps goosebumps. That version is much better than the studio version. If you decide to listen to An Cat Dubh and Into the Heart before watching live, be sure to do both together. They were made to run into each other on the album and they play it that way live. Edge is the master of transitions and hearing him do it live like he does in some of the other suggestions is just breathtaking.

    With U2 it's always 'this is a rock n roll show.. Ooooh yoh yohhhh'. Being a fan from the mid 90s, so many unforgettable memories of both experiencing their studio soundscapes for the first time and the intimately explosive live experiences. Still love U2, would have loved to be at the Sphere but joining you on your journey is special too. 🇿🇦✌️🍋

    U2 live is so good. I have that with more of my favourite artists: live it is a little more raw and not as polished as the studio version. That rawness gives it a stronger emotional charge: more real, more human all through perfect imperfections. Thanks man!
    Oh in case, you want to know who those other favourite artists are who run an amazing live show as well: The Cure, Tori Amos and Angelina Jordan. If you’d like some links to see if you want to listen and or react to them, let me know. There are also Dutch bands but I won’t burden you with those :-)

    As much as you like Lemon and Bono's harmonies with Edge, you must watch the video for Numb. Edge is essentially talking/rapping and Bono (and maybe others?) sing the 'I feel numb' parts in falsetto. Edge has a very good voice. When asked why he doesn't sing more, he replied with 'what would Bono do?' :D.
    On their new release Songs of Surrender Edge sings Desire (as opposed to Bono doing the vocals) and he does it entirely in falsetto and it's fire!
    Love Is Blindness from Achtung Baby is so moody and so awesome, plus Edge has a guitar solo. He also does that song on his acoustic style. Some suggestions I am sure you will like. :)

    At Mexico City in 1997, Bono's voice was in a very bad condition, one can hear the unstability and struggle to hit notes during Streets.

    All except for the last clip are pretty unimpressive. I've never really liked live versions of With or Without You. I think that it must be near impossible to consistently hit the register that Bono did in the studio. They do have a lot of absolutely great live songs floating around on TH-cam though. I would suggest checking out "Seconds", or "The Electric Co" from Red Rocks. "One" and "Kite" from Slane Castle are also great. From Zooropa - Sidney, "Angel of Harlem", "Lemon" and "Love Is Blindness" are all great.
