  • I LOVE DELPHINIUM! They also tend to be short-lived perennials and die off after 2-5 years. My goal in this video is to show you how you can prolong the life of your Delphiniums and get bigger blooms and a healthier plant. In addition, I'm highlighting a beautiful Delphinium called "Lilac Rose with White Bee" that is going to pair beautifully with Campanula "Birch Hybrid" (Also know as Canterbury Bells). I love pink and purples together and this video has that.
Thanks For Watching. I hope you learned something new!

I also luv luv delphiniums! I’ve not heard this tip before and it makes perfect sense! I have 3 new delphiniums I started from seed last year and this year they have bloomed beautiful blues, and I cut them back by about 1/2 to see if they will rebloom for me! I’m in zone 4b.

Can't you cut off the bloom, and stick those cuttings into Root Riot cloning cubes and get more plants?

Yes you can! Thanks for mentioning that. Take a cutting from the base of the plant. Aka basal cutting. Cut back the stem a little underneath the soil…keep moist. Keep a few leaves/seeds on top of the stem. Heaven knows I need to save money this year. Everything is so expensive!

Are these shade or full sun plants

    • @FlowerFanatic

Full sun to part shade. In hotter climates they could use a bit of afternoon shade. In summers that are around 75-85 and humid full sun. They like humidity and can handle full sun if there is a lot of humidity.

I live in Florida. I was cruising through Tractor Supply and spotted a bluish/purple and lime green stems. I figured-these will be about 7-8 dollars. Couldn’t find a price, so I asked. Guy says $3.38 😳I told him, do you realize you just created a monster? 5 of those jumped right in my cart. It 4/23? Earth Day 2023. They are out in the Ice Cream Banana Patch. They are so brilliant 💙💕💕💕💕💕

Can the cuttings be rooted and replanted? Can they grow indoors? Thank you. 🩵💛🩵

Hey! That is a good question. Yes they can. That would be a good video and experiment for me to do. Since I don’t love spending money on delphiniums in my climate. You can remove a few of the shoots in early spring a bit below the soil surface and immediately keep moist. Remove most of the leaves except for a few ( to help with rooting) and put in compost and perlite. Add some rooting powder and keep moist. You could Use a plastic bag cover of some sort to keep the leaves moist. Or Mist them. How long it takes…I don’t know. Plants have a mind of there own sometimes. Anyway, you could try to bring them inside, but I think they need a period of cold and dormancy to prepare for the following season. Let me know if you try it out.
