Thanks for another good video John. I use your sweet feast brassica blend here every year in Western New York and there is nothing that even comes close. I was excited when you started your TH-cam channel, it doesn't disappoint.
Good timing did this last Thursday. Used the clover chicory and added extra chicory and some red clover. It ended up getting 3 inches of snow on top of it on Friday. Hoping to do what jake elinger did were preninels and chicory becoming back bone of property.
I'm way down south. Most years my oats and clover survive winter. The deer eat my plots to the ground here, so I can't imagine how hard they hit plots up there!
Planted the clover/Chicory blend last fall, but didn't get a great take. I believe the area did not get enough moisture. Should I over seed the area again with the frost seed method or would I have better luck reseeding with the oats later this spring. Thanks
It depends on soil type and if you can even grow white. Red is a great spring summer food and a great plow down green manure. Rye will die after a few mowings
I planted your chicory clover blend last year with oats. It’s coming up a little thin with some weeds. I was going to lightly top seed before it rained so see if that helps. Should i fertilize with 6-24-24 right now? Also, can I spray with anything or will that kill the chicory? I don’t have a great mower that easily available.
Ok So my PH is a bit lower than I would like to see. My thought is to spary plot then Till the ground and plant mix of Rye and Buckwheat for now. Then the end of July / beging of Aug spray that wait a couple days and broad cast your clover blend into the plot and then use a roller to mash the buckwheat down to the ground and pack the seed. What are you thoughts John ? I'm sure the rye will grow that way just not sure how the clover blend will do
@@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663 North Cental Ohio. Ph is 6.1 Organic matter is 3.0 3 weeks ago we put 1.5 ton pellet lime and last weekend we add 3 ton of ag lime all of that was after soil test was taken.
Long distance food plotter. Sadly. So I need a perennial fence around a 8ac plot and about a 5ac plot. I have some seed for spring planting of soybean and clovers/alfalfa. So what seed would you use end of August to seed into the beans in southern Ohio? Thank you. Great job. I will also be seeding in eastern NY. Keep up the great work.
For you springtime planting with Oats, How tall do you let the Oats get before killing the Oats off. Is it better to Spray to Kill the Oats or Mow it off?
John. Is it to late in the year to plant clover 8/3? Planting 4 acres of NWW brassica this week and may put in last minute clover near bye. Please advise. Thank you Jeff
Hey I have a question about plant switchgrass. I would like to know what to spray and when to spray also with the amount. I have a pretty weedy spot I would like to plant.
When you plant clover and chicory in the fall with rye/oats, isnt the rye a problem the following year? Or will the clover and Chicory grow enough to overtake the rye the following year without having to kill the rye?
John - I just received your soil builder and crimson clover seed. Is it too early to plant that this weekend? Am planning to broadcast over a relatively bare former brassica food plot and then cultipack it. Plan is to terminate the soil builder mix in August for a fall food plot. Recent soil sample showed OM of 2.0-3.3. I'm in West Michigan. Thanks!
Inside class followed by outside real field demonstration is the perfect method for teaching me.
Thanks
Not always an option with out all the fancy equipment and staff. But we are trying 😉

Ya that blend is as good as it gets
Excellent video John, just in time & your offering sevral options with the seeding process during this spring season!
Thanks Jakes!!
Good video good timing John.
Thanks 👍

We are adding a lot of perennials to our properties. Lots of summer food 😊
Great video can’t get enough thank you so much for the education you afford us it’s great
Glad you enjoy it!
Great Video John! I can’t wait to try your clover/chicory mix this season. It’s my first time trying chicory, so I am excited to see the results👍
You will really like it
Great video and as always very educational!
Thanks
Yes that 1 help alot ...thanks....I need to clean my plot frist..
Yes
Clean plots helps

Not much left by spring here
Still have over a foot of snow here in Vermont, no frost seeding here, probably not till maybe May. Northwoods seed waiting patiently lol
Thanks
Ya just got more here
Thanks for the great info John! If I wanted to do the spring method, could I use Buckwheat for the nurse crop instead of Oats!
You could but back the seeding rate down a bunch . Like 30 pounds per acre. But really like grains. As they let more sun in

Wait and see yet . It should start popping mid April:
If it’s thin you can seed more before a rain
Got it. Thanks for the quick reply!!@@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663
Excellent John! Now if I already over frost sewed a weak clover plot. Can I still get a nurse crop in there? Northern Missouri
Probably just rye
Do deer prefer red clover or a perennial white clover or no difference? Won't rye just keep coming back after a mow like it's browsed?
It depends on soil type and if you can even grow white. Red is a great spring summer food and a great plow down green manure. Rye will die after a few mowings

You can seed more soon
Imox should take care of weeds try a small test area first
I’d rather mow it though

Short season brassica in some
Rye and radishes in the rest
Best clover for very low light plot. About 1/8 acre shooting plot. I want it thick? Will cereal rye nurse a shade tolerant clover?
Probably only rye can work
Clover needs sun

You can
Which is better pelletized or powdered lime?
It will depend on what you have to use to spread it.
Ag lime is really good and long lasting but takes a special spreader

It’s fine
Just now the rye a few times in spring and it’s gone

Way to early
May have to scratch up ten plot to get soil builder bigger seeds covered
Look at early to mid May pending soil temp
Do you ship to Canada John?
How do you deal with the rye/oats the following spring?
Mowing a few to we
Can brassicas and clover be mixed at planting? E tn
Maybe a small amount of crimson
Id love to buy alot of your products but the shipping cost to NC makes its tough..
Ya
UPS controls that cost unfortunately
Is there a place here in the U.P to buy bulk lime???
I use pelletized from Menards
Not sure which quarry you could get bulk from
Do you ship to Canada?
Not yet
Customs has been difficult and shipping costs. But we are working on it
Whitetail Institute=Rip off!
Lots of coating and berseem clover for a lot of money👎👎
35% berseem clover and they market it as a perennial🤣
