Played this onstage with a friend for the first time last night. Those two bars at the end of the verse are challenging, so now I’m checking TH-cam to see how the master handles it 👊🏻 Love your Hang podcast too!
Played with so much love ! A challenging piece to play and took me ages to get it to a level on my Alto Sax . The more you listen to this the more you hear ! Levels !
Mouthpiece sounds great, but I just love this entire mix as a whole. Would love to get a DAW tour of your effects chains for one of these tracks/any VSTi you use someday, if that's not too off-brand!
I think I might do that! It's really nothing special - for the keys I just used the built-in midi grand piano sound on logic, and for sax I just added reverb (Space Designer).
Dave my friend, I aspire to be able to do a small percentage of what you can do with your Sax, if I can achieve this in the next few years, I would consider this to be a massive achievement. Beautifully played, a true masterpiece, and this is World Class playing
So incredible, never heard this melody before, I so love it, I have the showboat. Might pull the trigger on this one, I can never sound like him, but I can try. Lol
Thanks Dave.. you sound really great on this mouthpiece...you made my New Years Eve 2022 really special thru your music..I hope I get a chance to meet you one day...man, thus might be the Alto Mouthpiece for me.
@@DavePollack a tenor 10mfan 7 lol* and that's cool I'm thinking about getting a new alto mouthpiece soon. Undecided on tip opening. Want at least a 5, probably a 6 since I play softer reeds than that.
@@gangofgreenhorns2672 Gotcha! I play a 10mfan Classic on tenor and love it. For alto, I've played a 5 tip opening forever so that's what's most comfortable for me.
@@DavePollack o man. I’ve tried 3s and it feels too hard and resistant. Why? I love the piece and play 3s on my showboat with no problem. Is it that I have to soften the reed some more?
The Alto Madness has a liiiiitle bit more resistance (which I like) and can play in the low register a big easier. The Daddy-O feels a touch "bigger" to me (whatever that means) and requires more air to get going. I love the Alto Madness the most out of all 3 alto models!
I think I’ve listened to this 500 times, and it continues to get better and better every time I hear it!
This is the true smooth jazz to me 🎷
Sounds like you are really enjoying the tone of that mouthpiece. That's the key. Sounds great 👍
I really am - it's super comfortable to play and sounds awesome!

I feel like I just found the golden ticket. That was beautiful Dave. I hope you are not offended if I transcribe that one.
The tone on this piece is very warm and smooth... gotta love it!
Thanks so much!

YEah....i second that!
No compression or EQU?, only reverb? @@DavePollack
Alto loveliness💕🎷
Nice! Richie is smiling down at you.
Just watched this movie yesterday I love this song
Amongst others, a tinge of Phil Woods! In tone but maybe even more so in phrasing, somehow, and treatment of embellishmental devices. Blissful.
Thank you so much!
That's how an alto sax should sound like. Good job.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the kind words
You're a real musician. Great tone and hearth, mixed with a superb control and technique.
I FULLY agree.
Wow - thanks so much! That's a really great compliment, and I appreciate that.
Great!!
What a lovely sound and interpretation!!
Dont let that mouthpiece go
Thank you!!
A beautiful peaceful song during this rather chaotic time. Thanks!
I appreciate that!

You sound beautiful Dave!!
Thanks so much!
Perfect sound !
Thank you!
Oh my god. Awesome.
Glad you like it!
One of my favorite tunes. Love the entire mix. Classy keys as well. Very Quality STUFF!!!!
Thanks so much!
Great stuff, Listen to it a lot,
Could this replace the Meyer?
It might!
Bye bye Mr. Meyer!
This is so amazing Dave incredible
Thanks!
Really nice dave. U sound so great on this mp👍
Thanks!
So so awesome,
Ive recently know about you and your fanny but useful videos , Thanks you Dave!
Absolutely beautiful playing and I need to just sell my gear now!
Wish I could afford lessons!😭😭 Great stuff!
Really, Really nice!
Thank you!
Love your playing!
Youre a very good player
How many years are you playing the sax?
Thanks! I've been playing for around 24 years
What is the tip opening ?
Sounds great !
Great sound!!!!
Yeah it would have been great if you mention the tip opening
That’d be like me mentioning my shoe size - it’s specific to the person and has nothing to do with the sound
The Kenny g special. Done him proud.
What ligature and reed do you use? Thanks!
Boston Sax Shop 3 reed and a Boston Sax Shop superlative ligature (when I filmed this though I was on an old Rovner)
@@DavePollack thanks a lot!! You sound really amazing!!, I’ve just received my Daddy-O in Ultem, hope to get a beautiful sound
You sound a lot like Chris potter from his reflections recording here man. Cool stuff
Oh man....that's a BIG compliment!
Do you have a backing track and notes of that song??? I love it....
What's the tip opening? And strength of reeds? Donna Schwartz, another youtube sax player, uses that mouthpiece on tenor with a Rovner ligature also.
Hi, Donna uses the Black Widow tenor model. Dave is playing the Alto Madness model in a 5 tip .072 with Select Jazz 3m filed.
Can't use this mouthpiece on tenor ;) but it's a 5 with D'Addario Select Jazz 3M filed reeds
@@DavePollack Do you think a 6 would be slightly darker? I love this sound but you've given me an attack of G.A.S! 🤤

How do both models (Daddy-O & Alto Madness) compare in terms of resistance (free-blowing.) Which one feels easier in the lower register?

Hi Dave, my I ask you which alto sax are u playing? Many thanks
Selmer Mark VI
@@DavePollack thanks so much and so much compliments for your amazing sound. May i know which period/serial is your Mark 6?
How much does one of those 10ms go for? You make it sound amazing.
$365
Beautiful! Just curious, what microphone are you using for your sax? Been a big fan for a long time!
Thanks so much! It's a Carvin CTM100 tube condenser.
A little bit of Hank Crawford sneaking in there .
