This isn’t the version to listen to. The original studio version from the White Album with Eric Clapton’s timeless guitar solo that everyone imitates is the one. Seriously.
You are so right! Of course, they can listen to anything they want. It's their show after all. But why not react to THE song? Rhetoric question, though.
One of my favorite songs from the Beatles double "White Album" from 1968. A masterpiece written by George Harrison. Please listen to the original studio version. What you are listening to is a video made for "The 10th anniversary of The Beatles Love show by Cirque du Soleil at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas". It is an acoustic version of the song with a specially commissioned string arrangement by the late Sir George Martin recorded in 2006.
Although this version appealing and interesting. The original version is so much better IMO as it features Eric Clapton's crying guitar solo which add a lot to the song and its message. All the best
Here is the original version Michael. Hope you like it as much as you liked this one. I agree the lyrics are so powerful and perhaps stand out a bit more in the acoustic version. BTW, I enjoy your reactions! Cheers th-cam.com/video/qhAx1HF2CRI/w-d-xo.html
I am glad this is the version you reviewed. It is closer to what I think George was trying to express. That said, I love the Eric Clapton licks on the other version.
I recommend the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame rendition of this song in 2004, it's a classic. It has an all-star cast with Prince doing a master class guitar solo. Both Prince & George Harrison (posthumously) being inducted.
Release date 1968, 6 years after first stepping into a recording studio. But this version is a 1996 version, not the original. It IS George playing and singing, but it's not the version most Beatle fans and music fans remember. This video was made to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the "Love" production resident in Las Vegas performed by Cirque du Soleil. This version includes lyrics not included in the original version; I can't tell you if they were new lyrics written for the 1996 version or left out of the original. The song conveys George's dismay at the world's unrealized potential for universal love, which he refers to as "the love there that's sleeping". The song also serves as a comment on the disharmony within the Beatles after their return from studying transcendental meditation in India in early 1968.
Just another magnificent song by the Beatles. Melancholy, thoughtful, but, in essence, very beautiful. Once again Michael, another home run by you! Thanks & keep on keepin' on!👍😎
This is a great ACOUSTIC version of this song. You should listen to the original recording from the Abbey Road album. This song is about the world…how much strife and poverty and etc and it looks as though everything is okay, but his guitar is weeping, knowing the truth. George recorded both versions. You must also hear the “electric version” with Eric Clapton’s electric guitar which literally sounds like it’s CRYING! On g!
I agree with other commenters. You need to hear the version from the White Album where Eric Clapton plays the electric lead guitar and Paul McCartney is playing the piano.
Michael, I appreciated your comment about how people who are old today actually looked young when they were younger. Funny how that works. (Your comment was not clumsy like mine.) It really is funny to think that all those teens and twenty somethings from the sixties and seventies are at least starting to get gray hairs, if they’re not already silver haired or bald. And many of us have been told we need knee replacement surgery, whether or not we’ve had it yet. (My sister just had her second one last week.) We’re actually one of the first generations in history to have documented proof that we once looked young. That sounds obvious but it’s hard for all of us to see someone a few decades older and actually think of what they would have looked like when they were young. At least my generation had color photos. When I was younger and saw pictures of high school or college kids from the forties or fifties they looked older than my generation at the same age. I think it’s partly because the pictures were usually in black and white and partly because of the hairstyles and clothes. Also their demeanor. We were much more casual. When you asked what a greyhound was I wasn’t sure which answer you were looking for. It’s the name of a bus line. On the sides of their buses is a picture of a greyhound dog, which is the fastest dog breed. Some can run up to 45 mph. Billy Joel wrote this song when he returned to NYC after living in LA for three years. He was actually on a Greyhound bus on the Hudson River line when he got the idea for the song, which he wrote as soon as he got home. I agree with the others who suggested that you listen to the live version from The Old Grey Whistle Test. (It’s a British TV show.) Whether you do a reaction video or just watch it for your own pleasure you won’t be disappointed. He and his band are top notch musicians and he is a true entertainer.
MY AUNT STAYED IN THE SAME HOTEL WITH THEM AND MET THEM IN 1964 IN ATLANTIC CITY NJ. (BACK WHEN NO ONE COULD REALLY GET NEAR THEM BECAUSE THEY WERE SO BIG) WHEN THEY PLAYED THERE. WHAT A WILD AND FUN STORY THAT IS TO TELL..
Una de mis canciones favoritas, escrita por George Harrison. La versión original es de "White album", por favor, escucha esa. ❤ ¡Saludos, desde Argentina!
John and Paul were the song writers and at first ignored George's desire to compose. They couldn't ignore him anymore when he came up with "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Something" and "Here Comes the Sun". I agree the studio version is better but this was lovely.
Actually it was George who ingnored his desire to compose and didn't compose at all at the beginning. It's not John'n'Paul's fault he couldn't manage it at this early age as they could.
Sadly this isn't the original version ... I am not even sure if this is a (official) Beatles version!? o_O I mean: I never heard this recording until now!
Hi Michael, I am a 75 year old woman (ex Silversmith) with a degree in Fine Arts; people talk to me as though I am in my dotage and ignore my opinions as though I had sat under a rock all my life. Frustrating! LoL!
Listen to the other version of this song. This was just George. The more popular version has the whole band and has a great guitar solo by Eric Clapton. A MUST TO LISTEN TO.
THE BEATLES WROTE ALL THEIR OWN MUSIC. THE ONLY EXCEPTION IS IF THEY CHOSE TO DO COVERS OF SONGS THAT THEY LOVED WHILE GROWING UP. WHICH WERE FEW AND VERY FAR BETWEEN. NOT TO MENTION ALL THE NUMBER ONES THEY WROTE FOR OTHERS GROUPS AND OR SOLO ARTISTS USING EITHER THEIR OWN NAMES OR FAKE NAMES THEY MADE UP. JUST FOR FUN. EVEN THE VIDEOS AS GREAT AS THEY ARE DONT DO THEM JUSTICE ON HOW GREAT THEY REALLY WERE. YOU HAD TO BE THERE.
hi michael, hope you're good. beautiful song but not one of my favourites. trouble is, with the beatles, they have such a vast catalogue of music it's hard to pick out which you like best, just like them all i think. i really enjoyed your reaction to the song and the way you have of digging into the lyrics to find the context. still the best michael.
@@ppiechnik it was not the Beatles, it was George Harrison, so it was not the Beatles was it , if he singing on his own therefore its George Harrison. Who the hell do you think you are fucking shouting at me how dare you now piss off

I GET WHAT YOUR SAYING. BUT THIS CUT IS AMAZING BECAUSE OF ITS SIMPLE STRINGS AND GEORGE'S SINGING IN UNISON WITH THEM.
yes yes
I wish you had been reacting to the song as it was on the White Album. The whole band was in on that.
This is George acoustic demo. The full production with the other Beatles contributing is the on on the white album.
No, not a demo; it's a 1996 version George made for a Beatles anthology album.

Written by George Harrison, always loved this song. You should check out The Hurricane by Bob Dylan live in 1975

Glad you enjoyed it thanks John!!
He’s singing about being sad being on the road performing while his family is home sleeping while his guitar gently weeps or he’s sad.

Paul's piano intro is so cool.
This is not the classic original version off of the Beatles White Album. Please listen to the original.

Great song and music. Nice to listen to you, bro and to write a comment 👍👍👍
THIS IS THE FIRST ACCOUSTIC VERSION THE FINAL PRODCUT HAD A GUTIAR WEEPING
MY AUNT STAYED IN THE SAME HOTEL WITH THEM AND MET THEM IN 1964 IN ATLANTIC CITY NJ. (BACK WHEN NO ONE COULD REALLY GET NEAR THEM BECAUSE THEY WERE SO BIG) WHEN THEY PLAYED THERE. WHAT A WILD AND FUN STORY THAT IS TO TELL..
This is really like their early demo with added vio;ins. You need to listen to the "White Album" version

You should check out the cover version of this song by The Jeff Healer Band. It really rocks!
Such a beautiful song but as pointed out, listen to the other version. George!!!

A better version IMO is the tribute they did for George Harrison that had Tom Petty and Prince on the Rock and roll hall of Fame it was amazing

GEORGE HARRSION WROTE IT AND SANG IT.

Loving Eric Clapton solo(only him) Captions old love
This was actually interesting, but I get your confusion. Here's the version you want! th-cam.com/video/bI8P6ZSHSvE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=lW1acV_L0IxvycGQ
This is George’s demo.
Was this the video with the most views? Unlikely. Don’t get me wrong, it’s beautiful but is not the original that has so much acclaim.
Mike listen to JEFF HEALY version of while my guitar gently weeps as harrisson said he but his version to shame

This video depiction distracts me from the manner in which I sensed a deeper meaning in the past.
That is the unplock version, you need to listen to the other version
Ooh, unfamiliar verses...
The original is much better, as others have said. This video is distracting. The White Album was brilliant! I was a Beatles fan from their beginning.
Listen to the White album version. Much better.
This version is for me, very hard to listen to.....
This isn’t even the right version😭
Wrong Version lol
This is not the Beatles,
OMG! THIS IS GEORGE HARRISON SINGING! DO YOU KNOW WHO HE IS? ONE OF THE BEATLES...DUH!
@@ppiechnik it was not the Beatles, it was George Harrison, so it was not the Beatles was it , if he singing on his own therefore its George Harrison. Who the hell do you think you are fucking shouting at me how dare you now piss off
You're clearly not a beatles fan. This is the anthology 3 version, less commercial. More folky.
@@DerekDerekDerekDerekDerekDerek Thank you for the information 🙏
Not the right version
The other version is much better.
Wrong version. This was the demo recorded by George by himself after writing it. It is NOT The Beatles version.
No version is 'wrong', this one is even good too!
