Needy Streamer is legitimately one of my favorite games and one of the most influential games in my artistic endeavors. And sadly Ame in some ways, is relatable to me, down to some of her insecurities and needing somewhere she can fit in. On another note; I completely agree with what you said about children not needing to be on the internet. I think the first step to making the internet less toxic is that parents actually pay attention to what their children are doing and stop throwing all these electronics at them and let them be kids.
0:16 I have no idea what that is but I will trust you 0:53 Yeye. Also, better name than the original one, cold take ik 1:38 Well, someone who came straight from the Omori video might think so, and I wouldn't blame them. Still, a very nice and simplified spin on Raising Sims, which are mostly descendants from Princess Maker. I'll get to why I liked this better than Milk when I get past the spoiler timestamps :D 3:57 Semiotics students will recall that public speaking on a soapbox was also a good way to get heard in the olden days, and speaking to people in the bank while reshuffling your salary was a great way to know what the neigborhood was thinking. You can still do that by talking to randoms in the bus (I love asking for permission first!!) and get mostly the same thing if you want to. Also has the plus that the corpo is not listening as closely :D 4:29 I know nobody who disagrees with it (but I haven't asked my 1200 acquaintances, only like 170-196) but I also see a lot of 3 year olds with phones, so take this with a grain of salt. I think kids should have videogame-less computers since they are 4 (immovable pcs, easy to set limits of 1hr a day for, and easy to set parental controls for) because it boosts reading and socializing without big drawbacks, and should have plenty of books+movies+music and some small amount of television for entertainment. Phones are Bad For Health and Bad for Education. I love it if they read comics, I adore the reading of poems and tales, I commend watching My Neigbor Totoro, and later Steven Universe, and value listening to María Elena Walsh. But Tik is carcinogenic for the brain XDDD. That's my idea at least. Some disagree with the details. +19 The microwave to heat up my water. Mate Cocido con Leche first, digital newspapers second (or informed longform videos when I was younger, like this one, or Otzdarva's) 5:03 LEL probability BEATEN XD +6 I actually hold off on watching you for hours so I can sit down and make a better comment for you, and make sure my watchclock is at 98% instead of the 30% I get if I'm interrupted (does that continue to increase if I come back to watch it later?). But thank you. We havin' lethal storms here 6:54 I completely forgot that existed. Gonna add that to my pending playlist. BTW: It took 10 years for me to find a Profile Picture. In fact, I only have one because it was specially comissioned by an actual artist, for inclusion in the videogame Untrusted: Web of Cybercrime because I won a contest. Had that not happened, I'd still not have a pfp because I fail to be represented by anything but my own face and an open hand. I have no idea how this anonymous artist perfectly captured the Argentinian Smile with only a basic and crappy pencil sketch that didn't have it, but I am still blown away by it. This timestamp should probably go on that video tho, I am off topic XD 9:14 Fun fact, when I brought up this community diagnosis Asukka had already independently come to the same conclusion. As a fanfic beta reader, that was a pleasant surprise. 10:52 And it gets worse :D but I'll hold off in case you talk more about that 12:23 It's pretty much confirmed that she designed P-chan from the ground up though, iteratively so. I'm pretty sure the game is Ame overthinking her future twenty times (with scary accuracy) and then scrapping the whole P-chan project before living her life herself with moderate success. That makes some endings where she abandons P-chan much happier. Most of the adaptations support this as well (two computers, cat head, pleasure machines, etcetera). And she hallucinates more than six times in the game, not all of them due to magic paper. She also destroys her computer when she "kills" Producer-chan. 13:36 Kinda sick of seeing that clip over and over but I assume a more casual viewer would not feel that way. 15:37 There's an interesting thing here. As far as we know this is the first version of P-chan that successfully invoked a suprarreal entity to control it, and Ame does not distinguish this Producer from any of her previous ones, with one exception. Magic Paper. Enough of that and she will know that you are a GOD (not the one, you didn't develop the game, but one of them) and thank you for your watchfulness before ending the game. I don't know where she goes from there but as far as we know this P-chan is completely indistinguishable from a mundane imaginary friend, and is indicated to be one in all other endings. I also liked that this game gave me more freedom to be the Helpful Split Personality that Milk and Space Station 13 didn't deliver on quite as much. I love playing that role. 16:07 Well he isn't independant, any more than the average split personality is. How real an alter is subject to debate and due to my poor amount of research on the subject and low number of acquaintances with DID (2), I do not feel confident enough to make an asessment of. I would need to read at least 3 more research papers and actually make friends with those people (enough to not hurt their self-image by asking) before I could give anything that wasn't an insensitive and misguided generalization, at least. But P-chan is not a separate being and requires substrate and endorsement to act and possibly exist. 16:36 my thoughts exactly. I would not mind dating someone like Ame and see how it goes. I tend to attract mentally unwell people when I make friends (I assume it's due to my long rambling arguments about indie stuff and my policy about being unwaveringly honest in my relationships), so I'm used to it. 18:37 Counting my blessings that I love walks and looking at trees. Some of my friends dropped a whole meal because they didn't like eating, independently from eachother :/ 19:09 I actually don't like to see it. I actually hate knowing it happened. All I want in them to be happy, fulfilled, and longlasting. Same with artists. I can personally identify, by name or art-style about 249 artists who quit or lost their lives while I was following them. And each of them I had to replace with someone else. But it's never the same. I wish them to be happy, and do not derive sick pleasure from seeing them suffer. 20:30 I sure as heck don't. I at most want to see CouchPat, and don't mind at all seeing someone taking a small break or venting about something, but I do not desire it. And I certainly hate suffering. And NSO has some of the most accurate comments and /st/ messages in all of gaming, like Omori and Of Stars and Time have some of the most human characters in gaming. 21:47 I hope to inspire, and to assist, but not to lead. I am not a Great Man. The people must act and choose for the group, not depend on a few illuminists/enlightened ones/stuck-up prickles. I would make a poor leader, but maybe a good assistant. Angels are fine and dandy, but they can be corrupted, or stunt the growth of their wards. Theory, practice and collaboration make for a better source. 23:17 During an argument in semiology, one of the girls said "I actually feel put out when I see someone having a breakdown on instagram. It hits too close to home, feels too real. It's not what I'm there for and I feel bad about it" (rough translation). She's a vegan sweetheart, and she said this. I found it very interesting, we debated it for like an hour with the teacher. Also this is the reason why people like old music. Only the good stuff was recorded enough to endure to today. There was a lot of crap back in the 1920s, in cinema and music, but none of it survives today. See what I mean? 24:15 My answer was given to you already (EDIT: in 40:00 of the long helblade video), but ask if you need it repeated ;) 25:48 Remember to sleep, you're the face of AsukkaTV's Channel -Phone Guy, archive training tapes, paraphrased 25:55 It was sufficient. Mostly guaranteed content, but pretty good. 26:32 Had fun. See you next time.
this is the best psychoanalysis of nso i've seen so far, this needs so many more views. also your voice is calming unlike most youtubers who make video essays
I've been in a long term relationship with someone with BPD for around 7 years now and this is definitely the most understanding I've seen anyone give to the mental illness aspect of the game. If you just got your info from research; bravo. You nailed it. I had my own interpretation of what was really going on when I was fully completing the game and it seems we mostly came to the same conclusions, although I really love the way you described everything in the video. You put into words what I could not have so eloquently. On a sidenote, I just found your channel from the Cyberpunk vid and I like what you're doing. I wish you good luck gaining an audience.
@@chromatic_death4976 I'm glad I could accurately examine such a misunderstood mental illness - I have a friend who has BPD, but most of my knowledge does come from research. And thank you! I'm glad you found the channel!
here's a dopamine hit for you :)b I appreciate that you didn't mess around recapping it and went right to the meat of it all! Trying to find insightful discussion about this game is proving to be very hard, so I'm happy I found this video. You said at the end that lots of the game is quite obvious, but you'd be surprised how much I've had to dig to find anyone else using this much nuance :"") I had two very damaging friends in my high school years who /were/ ame. every time a LINE message would pop up i would have a moment of deja-vu. The psychological horror of this game was just that half of the things ame said were bad memories for me, lol. anyway, my point is, they were both very, very, very online people -- so i'm really thinking about the comment you made wondering about how phones have affected kids' development. it definitely created quite a few ames if i (shy, anxious introvert) knew /two/ of them. Actually now that i think about it, there were three..... dear god The anime profile pic dissociation thing sounds a lot like the whole circus that was "kinning" back in 2014 tumblr. it's fascinating if you've never heard of it haha. Absolutely horrible culture -- just nerds and outcasts recreating the cruel caste system that they were excluded from in their real-life high schools -- but would make for an interesting read, probably. Anyway, thank you for the earnestness and openness you brought to this video. It made me feel better, as someone who brought so much personal baggage into this game. hope you had a good day today, checking out your other videos :)
Thank you for this dopamine hit! It surely is appreciated. And thank you for sharing your story, it's always great to hear the perspectives of others on such topics and games! I'm not sure what "kinning" is, I'll have to look that one up. I've never had a tumblr account before, I more just stayed on TH-cam during that time, so I'm sure it'll make for an interesting read. You have a good day as well, and I truly do hope you enjoy the other videos on the channel! :)
