Oh my gosh!!! The first time I dropped acid, I must have listened to this three times straight without a break. That was back in 1970. It has lost none of its luster in the intervening time.
Stanley Unwin was in another class to Milligan. Stanley was a lovely man, unlike Spike. And much funnier in fact !! What a wonderful creation this album was. Ridiculously good. Impossibly joyous. Preposterously perfect. Man, I love this record. THIS is what makes me proud to be English. Peace ✌
you're such a legend for putting this together in one video. I wish you and your family all joys of life and the best fortune luck may hold. God bless you, internet stranger
A 1960s MASTERPIECE. Thank you for sharing this album. I had a copy when I was only 11 years old but I loved the band and this album was their finest hour.
This Thursday... 24th May, marks the 50th Anniversary of the albums release. I will be reading "Happiness Stan" at a local Open Mic, on that day. Will have a crack at singing Mad John in the middle "So there was a wise one who loved all the haters, he loved them so much their hate turned to fear...." Happy day long toylytown newspaper reading chuckly smile... oh what a mindblast... Study cool won't ya!
Happiest piece of music I have ever heard. My first copy was stolen, I lost the 2nd, left the 3rd with a friend who disappeared while I was away being a hippie. Never found it again till now. A gift from Life and the Universe.
Oh deep thorcus on that fabulositated fourfold with the singit and warble forth of the wordage sincopathic whole word it is to say Sergio Pepperlode hugely popularry fallolop in that it millionated so soon after the sintiladen dangly and like it the moony most appear most later in the Heavenly bode seekit Nutgone if you wold all Flake it off of uncle Ogden from the York shire green and dangly as far as the eye could seekit frequent oh yes.
Re Dave Spagnol's comment- not sure if anybody could improve on this. A masterpiece. One of the best sides of any album I ever heard. Genius. Many thanks for posting
cheers Derek- haven't heard this for 20 years, now i can't stop playihg- i had the original multi-fold sleeve copy mint con- unfortunately i got burgled & lost a lot of rare vinyl- life goes on haha
Hiya Derek, was introduced to this wee gem circa 1988 & it blew me away as I listened to it over & over. Lost both copies I had of it & haven't heard it in a long time. Was reminded of it tonight & just had to find it. Cheers for posting.
Swoon! Some where in my record collection I have this, but so very scratched up from years of loving it. And it actually holds up pretty good between my 11 yr old self and my 66 now self.
Are you all sitting comtybold two square on your botties - Then I'll begin - 2,888 views for one of the greatest psychedelic-pop albums ever recorded by a band at the peak of their powers... Throw in the magnificent Stanley Unwin and it's a shameful indictment of the viewing/ listening habits of the world... I expected a least a million views for ONGF... Madness.
Ah yes, when Music wasn't just about musical notes, it was Story telling, and this is simply a superb example (1968). Complete with light hearted comedy too. A genuine Masterpiece, owned from 1973, still play it, still love it. Along with Nektars "remember the future" (1973), no comedy in this one though, but another masterpiece of story telling (in my opinion).
and stan, needin foodage reached in his pocky-----I loved this album after a shroom or too It takes you on a tripy worn shoes many levels. A favorit for the 60s teenager
Life is just a bowl of All Bran, have done deep thoucish about this.Still got the original LP. I was so sorry about Steve Marriot who ended up dying in a bed sitter.
No LSD involved. Stanley Unwin could come out with this stuff at the drop of a hat and he probably never took anything stronger than a small sherry in his entire life.
There was only one thing wrong with Ogden's Nut Gone Flake .... Small Faces couldn't improve on it, and it led to the group's breakup. I have two favourite albums. This, and "The Yardbirds" (often referred to as "Roger the Engineer"). Ogdens was a year in the making, whilst Roger was a result of the band being thrown into a studio with no material and being told you have a week to record an album. Unfortunately in both cases, it was the peak, not the promise.
Small Faces AND Stanley Unwin! Deep Joy!
Always loving you stevie Ronnie mac and Kenny Ed shering f of as stevie I'm certain would of said❤
This shows why SF were my favourite 60s group. This album was way ahead of it's time !!
Not really "ahead of its time" when you consider there`s been nothing like it since.
Oh my gosh!!! The first time I dropped acid, I must have listened to this three times straight without a break. That was back in 1970. It has lost none of its luster in the intervening time.
They wanted Spike Milligan to do the narration, but he didn't want to. So they got Unwin instead. Sometimes the second choice is the right choice.

Unwin with the Small Faces. Some moments were meant to be.

There are plenty of copies to pick up on sites like Discogs. It's also been re-issued to death (both on vinyl and CD) so the copies are usually cheap!
Anybodilode with me here on reckobling this album outclassed Sarjo Peppiload in almost every possicatty way?
Much absoluminously, rockit me right off man all falling and dangly that. Me fivetenthish in 68. Sorted about right was.

Wow, I almost experienced the mythological acid flashback.
Some of us never needed acid to fully catch this. We're the lucky ones.
Acid Flashbacks are definitely not a myth,I still get them 40 years after the last time I dropped a tab,And hate them too.
Swoon! Some where in my record collection I have this, but so very scratched up from years of loving it. And it actually holds up pretty good between my 11 yr old self and my 66 now self.

The spoken narrative sounds very much like a Lewis Carroll poem, excellent, no doubt fuelled by 60s LSD 👀
