Fascination conversation between two filmmakers with contrasting and distinct approaches to cinema. I love how Hamaguchi decodes every little aspect of the film while Kurosawa simply confesses that most of the nuances of Cure either fell in place on their own or were products of his instinct. Plus, Hamaguchi's reverence is endearing but never feigned.
Cure is a brilliant film. It rewards rewatching. It leaves you with more questions than answers and it welcomes different interpretations. On the second watch I noticed "x" on the back of the apron on the waitress at the end of the film. Then I wondered if there are more hidden "x"s in the movie, and I found a lot of them...some very obvious and some very subtle. I would have loved if the interview talked about that too.
Thanks for this! Pulse and Cure both left me with a lot of questions but it made me want to watch the movies again. They really might be better the second time around.
I’m here because I finally got around to watching Cure a second time. I loved it so much more and I’m not exactly sure why. Knowing what happens I could appreciate all of the other choices like camerawork and setting and sound, and it felt like every detail reinforced the theme of the movie. Felt more dreadful too
Thanks Squirt Reynolds for uploading this
I'd highly recommend people who enjoyed Cure to watch Kurosawa's recent film "Chime", and also Hamaguchi's film "Evil Does Not Exist".
Kiyoshi Kurosawa is so cute, it's hard to believe.
It's like when Akira Kurosawa had a conversation with Takeshi.
Two kings 👑 👑 This is such a great chat, Kurosawa is more open and playful than in the usual bonus feature/press kit interviews
Hamaguchi Sensei is all of us fanboying over Kurosawa sensei

Highly recommend you Pulse (2001) in my opinion Mr Kurosawa's finest work.

That ending made me laugh. 34:13 - end
thank you
This is amazing.
Great convo
🙏
Ryusuke Hamaguchi how many "hai" do you want to say?
Yes.
I recently watched Cure because it was recommended by a youtube movie channel. Excellent film, excellent.
@paulzenc06182
