I had a feeling from your reactions to Ren that you're in for some real art and real artists, happy to see I was not mistaken! I discovered RAYE about half a year ago, and ever since I'm absolutely glued to the screen whenever there's any new RAYE content, be it a video, a live performance, an interview, a reaction or whatever... RAYE broke free from a toxic record deal in 2022 and released her debut album in 2023 as an independent artist. "My21st Century Blues" is one of the best debuts in a decade or more, imho, and her live recording of that album "My 21st Century Symphony" is even better. In 2024 she won a new record of six Brit Awards with that album (Album of the year, Artist of the year, Best new artist, Single of the Year, Best R&B artist, and Best Songwriter - first time ever a woman won that category at the Brits, and for a reason, her pen game is insane...). As you just heard she can do any genre, her vocal control is incredible, her musicality is off the charts, she never sings a song the same way twice, what might be a dance tune in one of her shows might be a rock version the other day, and a bossa nova on the next, she likes to switch things up, so she and her audience never get bored... For your next reaction to her I'd suggest you now might discover her incredible stage presence and vocal prowess in a live setting. The song "Oscar Winning Tears" is the opening song on her album, and the video you're going to watch was filmed during the actual recording of her live album. She wanted a live version so badly, so she hired a slot at the venue. hired The Heritage Orchestra, and hired a 30 head youth choir, told her fans on social media to get there at a certain time and then went for it... all as an independent artist, and she completely killed it! Unfortunately the whole show is only visible inside tue UK on a BBC channel, but we have this opening track, and we have the audios of the entire live album. The whole show was released for cinema recently and premiered on Broadway NY, so I do hope I'll be able to watch the whole thing at a cinema in my vicinity soon, on a huge screen, with dolby surround sound, that would be epic...
