My last Great Adventure was to the Keewenaw in January 2021. When I left my home, along the St Clair River, I had no idea where I would go, so took it mile by mile and day by day. Along the way I met some incredibly welcoming people and enjoyed the wintery beauty of the Lake Michigan shoreline and the Upper Peninsula. I knew it would be the last time I could drive any distance and am so thankful for the experience!
My wife and I ran into you guys on the trail to Montreal Falls. We still laugh about how surprised you were that she was hiking sleeveless on the hike! Keep up the good work!
The owner of the Delaware Mine Tom Poynter sadly passed away in September of 2023 at 77 years old but his daughter and husband bought the mine and will continue on the family tradition of keeping the mine tours going.
Stunningly beautiful. Except for the history, that is. A history of colonization, ethnic cleansing and, no doubt, genocide. There were two LaPointe Treaties, one in 1842, and another in 1854 (because the first treaty didn't expropriate sufficient territory from some 85 tribes).
Cry me a river, Death? Conquest? Displacement? Welcome to the past 10,000 years of human history. Nothing special or abnormal about what happened here.
