Especially if you live right next door to the people from whom you supposedly just stole the dog. They'd eventually see the dog when it was taken outside to do its business.
The stealing cop, ive done that! I was in a womens clothing/fashion store in Wellington NZ. Id picked up a handbag i was looking at (mine was over my shoulder) & then i saw some boots. I picked them up too & went over to show my mum to see what she thought of them. I decided not to buy them, carried on lookng around, bought nothing & walked out with my handbag in my hand. I get a block away, meet up with family, sit down & realise the handbag i just put down wasnt mine as mine was on my shoulder! Id blatantly walked out the front door with their handbag in my hand & neither them nor i noticed! I was SO MORTIFIED that i went running back to the store & said to the lady at the counter "omg i just accidentally stole a handbag! I was on the next block before i realized!" She laughed & said she was impressed i owned up to it & bought it back! I was lke - well its not mine, i wasnt going to keep it! I felt like such a dickhead lol ETA im so lucky i didnt "get caught" coz they would never have believed it was an honest mistake! Ive never stolen in my life & i dont plan on starting in my 40s lol
I called it brain automated mode. It happen to me too, not the stealing, but the automated mode. Last time it happened, I carry some package outside to put in car. I put it in, open the gate (my house is fenced), got into the car, moved it outside, closed the gate, got back into the car, and started to drive away. It seems my automatic mode was triggered when I opened and closed car door. I forgot to close and lock my door! Luckily nobody climbed the fence to access the open door. 😖
I've done that with Cookies [which is even easier to do since (in my experience) Cookie boxes (at least from the in store bakery) don't set off the alarms, so you aren't even given any notice of your honest mistake, so if you don't realize it on your own, you will shoplift without even knowing it until it's too late].
I can honestly say I once took something from a Walmart without realizing I forgot to pay for it. By the time I had realized, it was too late to go back and pay for it. Walmart is not known for going easy on such things. Though, I am lucky it didn't trigger the alarm. It had gotten buried under all the other items. I had intended to pay for the stupid thing. In my hurry though, I forgot I had put it in the basket and then once I was "done" paying I just left the store with still unpaid for and in the cart. Of course, Walmart would rather not bother tracking every little $5 thing in the store. it keeps costs down as most people pay for even those things. They can afford to eat the cost of such a thing every now and again.
I've done it with a drink, before. I was/am a regular at the gas station...got outside to my car opened the bottle and took a drink....then thought about what I had done before running back in and saying "OMG!! Take my money!! I am so sorry!!" This is a gas station and loves to post pics of the thieves to name and shame too. They just laughed and said "We knew you'd be back".
I've done that too.. but not in zombie mode and didn't really been catch. So, basically, I was looking to do some modification on my bicycle. So, I enter a sport store, take the new break I need and than look at everything else they have for 10 minutes collecting in my head everypart. Than, I turn back and exist while trying different combinaison of part in my head to solve the issue I had. I arrive to my bike, unlock it and start putting my stuff in by back bag and it hit me : I didn't pay!!! I just turn around and get back to pay. They didn't notice me at all.
I wake up much earlier than I really need to specifically to make sure I am FULLY awake before I get out of the house on my way to work because I also have no business doing anything before I am completely awake.
It's great to know that you've never done the same exact thing and that you think cops aren't allowed to be human like everyone else. You sound insufferable.
@@nadinesharp9766 No, I've never accidentally *robbed a store*. From the way you phrased that like it's something everyone just does, which they absolutely don't, I think you're the one with the problem.
Story 4: was he a jerk to the cop on the phone? Yes but with spam calls like that it’s pretty easy for someone to fake being a cop. Story 5: that sounded racist to me. “Your kind” wow.
And there I hope she at least lost her job. Delivery drivers shouldn't be racist - or any workers. I visited my family in Germany for the last 2 weeks and my mom told me she was the only one getting her ticket checked on the bus by the driver... all the other passengers were from the country the driver was from so he was their "bro" or "buddy" - when she asked the driver why she was the only passenger getting her ticket checked she also added "is it because I'm the only german woman - you know, that's also kind of racist" - then she told me that this driver apologized after he realized what happened... turns out that 30% of the other passengers didn't have a ticket! Normal that's 60€ if you get caught...
I hope OP took his second car away from his sister. Letting someone else drive a vehicle titled in your name is a big liability, but an even bigger liability when the borrower lends your vehicle to someone, with or without your permission to do so.
Story 3: Yeah I have to side against the old woman past the point where the girlfriend agreed with the explanation. "She's just covering for his sleazy ass" wha-? If OP really was being sleazy like the old lady thought then the girlfriend's reaction should've been outraged, why would she try to cover for being roofied and raped? That's stupid. C'mon lady, use your head, if you're being told by the supposed victim you're trying to protect "no it's just a lactase pill" then take the L and the E (embarrassment) and back down.
I was drunk and acting a fool when I was young, and my bf was trying to wrangle me to the car. I had two blokes stop to make sure I was okay and that nothing nefarious was happening. Top notch folks
Story 4: Yea I can't really blame OP on yelling at the cops over the phone as there are scammers posing as cops that do this kind of scam. Also OP really should cut all ties with his sister as her criminal hubby almost got him in trouble. Story 5: That delivery driver is a massive red flag for the company she work for since she stereotype people by their looks. I mean sure OP is big and burly, but that doesn't mean he should get himself a pitbull. Not all big and burly men owns pitbull some own different breed like chihuahuas.
4)the sister's bf probably have a pretty fat and long hotdog and/or really really good below the belt licker and eater, which she hungers so much for, which is why she's willing to ruin her relationship with her brother, the OP of the story... 5) personally, i understand the driver's confusion at first and why call the cops, but the really crappy thing she did and should get her arrested is when she shown her obvious racism and made up a lie and whorish drama because she can't accept that the cops didn't fulfill her racist desires...

If a number comes in I don't recognize, I don't answer it. If they don't leave a voice mail (demonstrating it's not a serious call), I block the number.
No point blocking the numbers immediately, the numbers scammers use often belong to legitimate people. You might block someone by mistake. Simply if no message is left then you know that it is a scammer calling. What you simply do is tag it in your phone as a possible scammer, then when you do answer that number and find it is being used as such just simply tell them to F-Off then just block it, or report it, if you can, as being a fraudulent number.
Whether I answer an unknow number or not depends on if I'm expecting a return call from someone I may not know and don't have a number saved in my phone.
The only time I answered numbers I didn't recognize was after my father passed away, since I was the one handling all his affairs I knew there would be randoms coming in. But otherwise I also never answer unknown
Story 4: Yeah I can't blame OP for the annoyance of these prank calls, though it is pretty funny picturing the conversation. As for the sister, IDK why she would be marrying someone that almost got her sibling arrested for gas that he stole
That's why I never pick up any calls from unknown numbers. If you want me to answer, at least you introduce yourself by whatsapp message (or sms in the old days).
That that one person and their neighbour have a dogflap in the fence between their two properties is completely delightful! So they, their respective doggios can play together, I love it with complete passion!!
But op wasn't the Karen the other guy is for not realizing there was a pizza party happening and bringing his own pizza and expected no one to take some of his pizza. Its called being aware of ur surroundings.
You can’t really we blame her in this situation. She’s at a pizza place with a load of other parents and one is sat nearby with a load of pizza. Easy mistake to make. I bet she’s tired from working nights and having social anxiety she probably didn’t pick up on anything to say otherwise.

I call it autopilot. Also one of those situations where you are driving somewhere an hour away. You get there and realize you cant remember 90% of the trip.... and there are stoplights and turns in the section you cant remember....
@izuzan7419 I had that a lot when I worked an hour away from home. I usually was fine in the mornings going in but the drive home was just to the point I wouldn't even remember the turn off the expressway 😅 long straight stretches of road its like hypnosis and autopilot mixed together
Story 3: i can understand why the old lady was concerned. Guys who do this are disgusting assholes! But i'm glad there are people who do look out for others ❤
If the little old lady told her, in the bathroom, what he did & she explained, that should have been the end! BUT OP said that gf was trying not to laugh so I think she didn't try to clear his name! But if the lady really thought he was doing that, she should have called the police & not confronted him! If he was a trafficker she, gf, other customers & employees could have been hurt or dead! That is major money & I don't think one little old lady is going to scare those kinds of people! I also think he would have accomplices & maybe a gun!

It would have bern so embarrassing 😳 but I almost did it at a park once for a child's birthday party. I walked up with my daughter for a school friend's party. I don't know why the guy didn't just man up and stop OP from taking their pizza by asking what they thought they were doing by reaching for their food. OP could have then said it's team pizza or something and he could've said they weren't part of any team, it was their personal food and to back off. OP could then have explained why they thought it was up for grabs and apologized. Anyway, any time we've been to a kid event like this where there's going to be pizza or cake or whatever, everyone gets together for the food, it wouldn't be just a guy with a couple of kids. And OP could just have ASKED before helping themselves to pizza. Is no one in the world but their kid's team able to have pizza in a public place? OP deserves to be embarrassed.
Story 2: So the officer made a mistake. I hoped the officer went back to the gas station, apologize to the employee/manager, and paid for the food and coffee. That's the best the officer can do though.
The other thing is this, if the owner was there, why didnt THEY chase down OP. Also if OP is a regular there, calling them entitled, just shows that the owner also has a hatred to police.

I get quite a few scam calls, mostly for the previous holder of my number. Lately they've been calling at really odd times, like before 8am and super late say 10 or 11pm. Learn your time zones dude. So one day I got a call from an unfamiliar number at 2am. I picked it up and snapped "OMG! ITS FRICKIN 2AM"!! WHAT THE FRICK DO YOU WANT?!?" It turned out to be the security service for the store, I'm assistant manager, so I was second/alternative number listed for the security service. I guess the combination of inflated helium balloons and a fan that had been left on triggered an alarm for the store. I was so embarrassed that I snapped, I don't remember how many times I apologized to that poor person.

The first story totally reminds me of the scene in "So Long and Thanks for all the Fish" where a random man sitting at the same table as Arthur eats one of the cookies from Arthur's packet without saying a word. Then the two stare at each other contemptuously without speaking, alternately eating until the package is gone...then, after the man leaves, Arthur picks up his newspaper and discovers it was covering his own identical packet of cookies.😂😂
Lactose pill story. Yeah, it's okay that the old woman was trying to look out for someone, but odds are that if OP was up to anything nefarious, they 1) most likely wouldn't have let gf go to the restroom on her own, and 2) he wouldn't have spiked her drink so openly in front of another patron. Seriously, people need to have and use a little common sense. There was no need to call the cops after gf told the woman that she was okay and they showed her the pill package and so on. It's just tying up police resources that could be better utilized elsewhere. If I'd been the gf, I'd have told the woman to stop sticking her nose where it didn't belong and that we'd explained the situation to her, and just left.
Where I grew up, cops giving themselves "free" meals and whatnot was so common I thought that this was just a general rule. In retrospect, they were sort of running a "protection" racket on local businesses, particularly ones run by immigrants who had off-the-books and precarious family and employees.
We allowed the police and firemen and ambulance workers free coffee if they wanted or free soda. My boss was a big member of the town council and booster for the fire department. If they got a call while eating on duty(their break) we were to remember the order and put it aside and we were to remake their food when and if they came back. I gotta say my boss was very respected in our small town. He mainly hired teenagers and college kids. Said everyone has to start somewhere. But he was quite strict. Taught us all proper food handling and cleaning. You have never seen such a clean small mom and pop place. Hamburgers and ice cream. I was sad when it closed about 18 years ago. A janky bad Chinese food place is in there now. The people are nice enough but the food is just meh his only saving grace he makes killer egg rolls. I'll atop and buy 4 for lunch.
@@erinmalone2669 When I worked at a library we kept having someone leave burritos on the shelves and once smashing one in a book. I dubbed the person the Burrito Bandito
True, but once OP and his gf showed her the prescription bottle and they BOTH explained, calling the police was a bit ridiculous. But I won't argue that she was trying to do a good thing.
@@merlinathrawes746 Tbh if I were in that old woman's shoes I'd probably be thinking "he just put roofies in that bottle as a cover story," and in the heat of the moment I totally believe that she wasn't really processing the gf's statements. This is the kind of situation where going a bit overboard is better than doing nothing.
I believe she probably thinks it is some kind of drug that alters her mental state, or she is in an abusive relationship and too scared to not "protect" him, or Stockholm syndrome. It is difficult not to be skeptical with all the stuffs that happened to women in general. I would also call the cops, just to be safe.
Disclaimer: This is assuming the stories told are accurate. It's always possible one or more details are omitted and/or incorrect. 1. Honest mistake, but maybe that should be a sign to look for a job with better hours so you can go to your child's games more often, or at the very least consider asking for clarification first before acting. 2. Again, seems to be an honest mistake, but especially as a police officer one really should be more alert and aware of their surroundings so things don't needlessly escalate. 3. Definitely can understand the woman's concern here as for all she knew OP was someone trying to abuse/harm someone, with it also being understandable why she didn't believe the GF when she said it was fine as many abuse victims are often afraid to speak out against their abusers for obvious reasons. Better safe than sorry. 4. While it's good things ended well for OP here (though why the sister still decided to marry a convicted assault criminal I'll never know) in the future if it's a number you don't know don't answer it. If they're legit they'll often leave a voicemail and if they're not they won't. You can also always look up the number afterwards as well to see if it's legit or not. 5. Being concerned is one thing, making a mountain out of a molehill based on your biases is another. Hopefully the driver was properly reprimanded afterwards for her actions.
5th Story: The mistake from OP is thinking cops are good guys AND going outside AND talking to them, those kind of mistake can cost/ruin a persons entire life.
Story 3: yeah I agree with OP. That woman did the right thing, and I have a similar story My ex and I have been broken up for 6 years as of the writing of this, but we have a son together. Fortunately for all involved, the two of us co parent very amicably. The story in question happened on a day where my ex wasn't around to pick our son up from the bus stop, so she asked me to. But she forgot to tell the bus company that a different parent would be there to get him. I had to show the bus driver my ID and call my ex to get cromulant authorization to have my son released to me. After all was said and done, I thanked the driver for standing his ground. Doesn't matter that I am the dad, he didn't know it was okay for my son to be released to me
Story 4 - I mean, I can understand being over scammers like that. I had someone call me from "The IRS", I was waiting for another call so answered an unknown number, and I just said "Okay, you're in " Guy says "Yes, in " and I respond with "I'm on site today. I will be down there and you better have a good explanation". I don't work for the IRS, and obviously this guy didn't either. He stammered a little and I said "This is not something you call about, you send written correspondence in this situation. You better have a good explanation when I get down there. Who is your manager? I want them there too." Guy hung up on me... On the plus side...never had an IRS scammer since then.
I'm sorry but the moment the older lady ignored the GF in story 3, she became a full on toxic entitled Karen. I really feel like she should've had to go to the station or be given a serious talking to about wasting police time and the dangers of making false accusations. What she did was seriously awesome, but she crossed a huge line and very easily could've ruined OPs life and future wherever OP's at currently. If the was that concerned and convinced of her suspicions, she should've just gotten the GF out of there and called the cops right away instead of coming back into the bakery to have a shouting match with who she's so sure is a potentially violent abuser and creep, but that was more just foolish then karenish.
Someone on here tried sating we need more people like her and yeah no in theory its a good plan but if human trafficking or rape were the agenda? putting your life and other peoples lives at risk is a huge no
Counter point: the old lady may have believed the girl friend was in an abusive relationship and needed help. But there too, you need to be able to gauge reactions - the laughing at the lady should have been a giveaway that the girl was safe.
@@lulolie true doesn't mean the old lady should've confronted the potential abuser what if he was abusive and ended up beating the girl to death for 'snitching' on him once home?
My granddad had a bunch of those from back in landline days. He would frequently answer "Sheriff's office" or "Bide-a-wee Rest Home" or "O'Dell's funeral home, you stab 'em, we slab 'em" or a bunch of others. If it was family or friends, they didn't care. "So come to O'Dell's, the friendly undertakers. We'd be the last to let you down."
Story 2: I wouldn’t say the officer was entitled. It was 5 am and he was tired probably on auto pilot. I’m with Fluff that they could have waited until he was there next.
Umm, nobody was saying the officer _was_ entitled. These first few are obviously stories of "accidentally _acting_ entitled". And it's quite possible that the owner had no idea who he was or that he was a regular. Different people work the registers at different times, and even if he was frequently at that store and other people knew him, whoever was on the register that morning might have been new (or usually works a different shift) and didn't recognize him, and the owner may not even be directly involved in most of the day-to-day operations so he doesn't know who is or isn't a regular either (the clerk probably just called him and told him what happened, he reviewed the footage to confirm it, and then called the department to complain). What actually concerns me more is that if he starts out his workday so completely out of it that he can't even hear people calling to him trying to get his attention and tell him that _he's actually breaking the law,_ what other parts of his job is he not able to do properly either? Being alert and aware of your surroundings is kinda a requirement of that job, and if you can't manage even that much, you just shouldn't be on duty at all. For something like a police officer, this is not really that far off from showing up to work drunk, IMHO.
What gets me is the store owner reported it at all. How much could that burrito have cost that they couldn't write it off as a one time thing, or wait until the next time to mention it to him. Bet you he'll never set foot in that station again.
I can see the dog thing happening. I have a dog door too and right now, thanks to Hurricane Beryl, part of the fence between me and the back neighbor is down. They have been super cool about it since it's our fence. They said to not worry about it and that our dogs (Shetland Sheepdogs) can play with their dog in both yards. One night, evidently one of their kids left the gate open and our pups, knowing that it's exploration time, go out it. I get a call from a number I don't recognize and answered it. The man said he found our dogs and was near the school with them. I have the boys chipped AND their collar has their name and our phone number on them so if they decide to wander, we can be found easily. I sent my husband to the school. About 10 minutes later, the guy calls back and asked if we were on the way. Okay, my husband's out there, silver van. He doesn't see him but he tells me he's on a street NEAR the school. I then spotted the fact that my husband left his phone so I couldn't call him to change the location. He wandered back about 5 minutes later and I sent him out with his phone and the correct information. The couple were really nice, they had played with the boys and said they were the prettiest dogs they had ever seen. Our Sully is a bi-black (black and white) and Aska (OOshka) is a bi-blue (grey/blue white) and silly as boys can be.
I had a firearm stolen some years back. Years later I still get a call about once a year from the sheriff's office. I get scam calls regularly also. I started answering the spam calls with (bad New Yorker voice) "Big Lewis' hitman service. You got the cash, we'll do the wack. This is Big Tony" Overall the spam calls have decreased, but the sheriff probably still gets a laugh when he thinks of me. 😅
I was really stressed up one time and my girl wanted some ice cream while we waited for a train. I went in to a local store, took ice cream out of a freezer and went out. The moment I came out I realized I never payed. I went right back and payed and was really really REALLY sorry. I never steal anything and would never do that on purpose. Needless to say I avoided that store for a while after that 😂
The second to last story about the guy thinking the scammers were cops: I had a call that was asking me for my Direct TV information (folks, those calls are scams). So I decided to lead the guy on for about 5 minutes until I finally told him I hadn't had Direct TV for 3 years. He got real sullen, and asked, "Then why did you tell me you had Direct TV. I don't understand." I told him, "Because, you are a scammer." He said, "Ok" and hung up. And his voice even sounded like he was about to cry. So I am sitting there starting to feel bad and thinking, "Did I just mistakenly tell off some poor Direct TV CSR on his first day on the job?" Then the phone rang again. Same number. There was another guy on the phone, who in an Indi voice, started telling me about all the sexual things he wanted me to do to him. I cracked up. I literally hollered, "Thank you Thank you Thank you!! Man, I thought the guy may have been legitimate and I was feeling so bad! Thank you for calling back and letting me know I was right about the scam!!!! Wow, thank you man!" He was trying to say more insults but I was drowning him out, until I discerned he had hung up. I laughed and laughed for a few minutes after that. Not only because I was right, but because I felt so much better I had not just insulted a real CSR.
I have to say that if I saw some guy pour pill contents into a lady's drink while she was in the restroom, I would also make it known to the lady as she exited the restroom. I'm a man so I would not go into the restroom to tell her. I'd wait, excuse myself to her and stop her politely. Then explain what I witnessed. If the lady said all was fine and the guy showed me the empty pill casing and the packet they came from, I would let it go... as long as the lady was 100% honest with me. Any sign of distress in her eyes and I would call the police (discreetly).
Last story: people like that driver never think. They just assume everything. Asking a Karen to think is like asking them to apologize. It's not gonna happen
One time I was on the phone with a scammer and I was listening to them talk and talk. I was just waiting for them to get to the “account information” part of the scam. After they asked for my account number etc, I said that I was a little concerned about providing them with my information. Then the woman said this - Well madam, if you are worried about your account security, you could just empty all of your funds and just leave the $10 that we require. Then, afterwards you could just return your funds to your account 😳. I just burst out laughing, told her to have a good day and hung up. Seriously? How stupid do they think people are? (don’t answer that 🤣) Oh, I feel so much better now that I have emptied my account. Yes, I’ll do that. Then I’ll leave just the $10 fee, they will only be able to withdraw $10 and then they will send me my new tablet (that keeps changing brands). I have soooo many questions.
I’m sorry but I absolutely can blame the guy with the petrol theft. I would have waited to hear whether they said to give credit card details or not before presuming it was a scammer. That’s especially true if I had a second car that I knew someone else used because you can’t swear to the fact nobody stole petrol while using the car.
I think the girlfriend in the third story was kind of in the wrong. This lady went out of her way to tell her privately and from the way the girlfriend was trying not to laugh on the way back makes me think she did not explain or clear up anything just to be able to make the woman confront OP and make her feel embarrassed that she got it wrong. Why make things harder for people trying to help you. Of course, the lady was in the wrong for doubling down and escalating it. But I just feel that handled differently, this could have ended nicer for everyone.
Story 1: The second hand embarrassment for this person is so strong right now I'm actually cringing. Like want to crawl into a hole and disappear. I can't imagine what OP was feeling if that's my visceral response to their embarrassing moment.
I think not! She should have called the police & Not confronted him herself! What would have happened if OP Was doing what she thought he was doing? Her confrontation could have caused her & OP's gf and maybe even the employee to be hurt! If he was just a guy wanting to hedge his bet, he might have just run, BUT if he had trafficking on his agenda, I'm thinking that he might have come with friends & an arsenal🥺!!! Story 2 - I agree, if OP is a regular customer and always pays but forgot this one time then the cashier should’ve waited till OP came in the next day and told him ‘hey you forgot to pay for your stuff yesterday’
I accidentally became the asshole in a situation, too. I have hand spasms occasionally and once, when trying to wave down a waitress at a Japanese restaurant, a spasm made me snap my fingers at her. She was pissed and didn't understand English well enough to understand my apology.
Then the waitress is the a hole for not understanding ur disability. U should have reported her and gotten her fired for not being understanding of others medical conditions
@puffermanman She couldn't understand English well so how could they even tell her they had a disability. All she saw was someone snapping their fingers at her with no way of knowing it wasn't just them being an ahole. That's no reason for her to be fired.
I loved the cops calling story! I used to get scam calls and I always messed with them back. The best one EVER is that scam where they link your social security number with a car, bank, etc...I got that call. I immediately fake panicked asking the lady if she was a PI sent by my husband. "He knows about my apartment? Car? Even bank account??". I started fake crying and hyperventilating saying my husband had said if I ever try to leave him he will kill me. The lady was freaking out. THEN I faked a heart attack and let the phone clatter to the floor. It didn't end there...I picked the phone up and used my little kid voice "Mommy? I has phone...mooooomy get up!" That scammer was crying by then saying "What have I done!" I just hung up. Click.
Story 3 well inentionned Karen but still a Karen. Yeah the first move (getting the girl and confronting the guy) was good. But refusing to believe them even when showed the pills box and the testimony of the girl, no that's Karen behaviour.....
Story 4 Reason op didnt get into trouble is cause his mistake is perfectly valid, and once corrected, he didnt keep denying his mistake, but helped instead. He owned up to it. Karens dont do that. And thus get into more trouble.
I totally get OP2's story: I once walked out of a liquor store with a six-pack that I forgot to pay for. By the time I snapped out of autopilot and turned around to go back the employee was running out the door after me. Luckily he saw how embarrassed I was and how I was coming back so we just had a laugh about it as I paid.
I was in a gas station/convenience store, got some gas, and got talking to one of the owners, and left without paying. My wife asked me why there was a $5.00 check in my book. I realized what had happened, drove to the store, told the owner what I had done, paid her. She was surprised because she forgot I hadn’t paid either.
The one about phone scammers: I've been at the receiving end of a person who has experienced too many "crap" calls: I was driving a tractor-trailer, and had a delivery in Brooklyn. Knowing that I should call ahead for directions, I was at the receiver's lounge where I'd just delivered. They had a pay phone, but it was one of those weird phones where you wait for the person to answer, THEN you drop the coins in. I was in Long Island, and the call turned out to cost something like $.85 (I had at least $5.00 in quarters with me, just for this reason..). So, I hear the phone connect; the lady answers, just as the phone tells me the cost. I drop in 3 quarters and a dime, then take a breath (as you would when you were about to tell them all the info on your delivery in a quick manner to keep the total cost down..), and she must've heard me inhale. Next thing I hear is "Yeah, keep on breathing, ASSHOLE!!!", and she hung up....
I'm going to say the owner was an asshole in the second story. To jump straight to an indignant rant and accusing the officer of intentionally stealing is insane. I think we've all done something similar before. Mine was buying some stuff at a grocery store with a migraine. Scanned all my items and just walked out without paying. Realized when I got to my car and had no receipt. Went back in and had a laugh with the clerk at the self checkout and they told me this is more common than I'd think
30 years ago or so, I drove off from my local convenience store without paying (Same deal- I was a new dad, and running on coffee and stubbornness that day.) Luckily, I'd been stopping there multiple times a week for years, and everybody knew me. Next time I was in, the manager just said "Hey, you forgot to pay for your gas the other day."
In the case of the last Karen, I'll say this much for her: she may have been a bigoted idiot, but at least she WAS clearly trying to save the dog, as she saw it.
On story 4 I have bunch of scam call. Funny I got "Scam likely" call right now while I'm typing. 😂 I usually wait and let them voice mail me, but most of them don't. So I don't know it a scam or something important I need to pick up. And yes I know three beginning numbers that relate to what state I'm in.
Recently my sister got on tne freeway and another car got on next to her really close and she said "ah you son of a bitch" to me and her in surpised about the other car then stopped and said "wait is this a two lane? Oh no im the son of a bitch!" She hadn't realized she was tne one too close. Not in the other lane but way too close
At the gas station i work at we give officers free coffee we wouldn't care if they walked in got a coffee and walked out and sometimes we don't care about the hot food items either
There's one part about Story 3 that doesn't quite make the old lady a good person if the guy was trying to drug her basically she already had it in his head he was bad so no matter what they did he was a bad guy because he put something in her drink
Confirmation Bias. Once a human has made up their mind on something, it's almost impossible to get them to change their opinion based on new facts or evidence. Tragically, this applies to police, prosecutors, judges, scientists, researchers and even doctors. Granddad used to say (with tongue firmly in cheek) "My mind's made up! Don't go trying to confuse me with the facts!"
Story 1: OP was a Karen in the moment. She wasn't a true Karen because she was mortified when she woke up the next morning. Story 2: OP must've been seriously "in the zone" to forget paying for his food. Did he forget to pay for his fuel as well? Story 3: The lady was not a Karen. She went a bit overboard in calling the police. She was risking filing a false police report. Story 4: OP was another Karen/Kevin in the moment (I don't know OP's gender). Story 5: Karen was clearly off her meds that day...
To be fair, in the last story, I thought what the "Karen" did was an honest mistake since she doesn't know OP, OP's neighbor, or that they both own dogs UNTIL she said "His kind don't own GRs".
You know how they say to never shop for groceries when you’re hungry, because you’ll impulse buy anything that is mildly appealing? I went into a Fred Meyers (which is like what Walmart is, but 20yrs before them, and trying to appeal to the kind of people who shop at Walmart. So, grocery store, clothes store (like Target, not anything high-end), and a hardware store, sometimes a pharmacy. They rented space to a Jeweler, and a bank, etc. a big difference was that while they were all in the Fred Meyer space, each section had their own cash registers. And I’m in the hardware store area, grab the thing I wanted (something small, like a padlock), and then on my way to the register, I see something else I didn’t intend to get, but decided to anyway. And after that, something else… I didn’t have a basket or cart, because I was just there for the padlock. But I had more stuff than I could carry in just my hands. So the smallest thing went into my jacket pocket. This was before I could drive, and I guess there had been a lot of shoplifting by people in my age group, so the store security was watching vie the overhead cameras, and jumped into action. They were on to me before I could get to the registers, and there were loss management scanners on the entrance to prevent me walking out that way. I had to let my inner Rules Lawyer win that fight, by insisting that I ran out of hands (easily proven, since I was standing there with a bunch of stuff in my hands), that I was walking towards the registers, that you could still easily see the plastic packaging sticking out of my pocket (so I must not have been trying to be sneaky), and that technically it’s not theft if I haven’t left the store. (Moving their property from one part of their store to another isn’t stealing it from then which is logically correct, but I have no idea if that’s how the law was written. Here we are, 45yrs later, I guess there’s a doctrine in the courts saying that if you’re doing stuff they infer to mean you’re trying to steal stuff, that’s good enough.) So basically the opposite.
The story with the gas, all I could think I would have told the officer that they can arrest me for the gas and for the IRS! He made it sound like it was that type of scam.
Story 4: Hot take, OP is not an entitled Karen. I've never heard of cops calling to tell someone there's an investigation against them. They just show up to your door instead. Imo that's on the police department for making a courtesy call saying please comply instead of just coming to the door like normal officers.
Pizza story: Oops!!! It was an honest mistake, but at least he didn't get in your face about it, which he could have done. Burrito Burglar story: Well, it wasn't intentional and you made it right with the gas station. You'll be ribbed for awhile, which is a good thing, because you'll be far less likely to do a repeat. Take it as a lesson learned. Drugged drink story: As you say, she was just being a concerned citizen. Though in a bakery in the middle of the day instead of a bar/club at night should have been an argument in your favor. Especially with the prescription bottle on you. Stolen gas story: Under the circumstances I can't really blame you for not initially believing the officer. At least you didn't wind up being arrested. Given what was going on, I think I would have made my second car "unavailable" to my sister and her bf. And she MARRIED him? Good grief! "Stolen" dog story: "My kind only owns Pitbulls and Rottweilers." I'm sorry OP. You don't describe yourself so there's no way to know how you appear to other people (tattoos, shaved head, clothing, etc.) that might give off a "vibe" to some people. Maybe you resemble someone she's had a problem(s) with in the past. Regardless, she shouldn't be letting that cause situations like this one. I feel you were right to report her.
Story 3: Seriously? Who the hell would "cover" for someone putting something in their drink if they didn't want it in there? I understand telling OP's GF but after that, umm...no. Story 4: Aggravated Assault, Robbery, Drugs, Theft (Gas) so multiple crimes including some serious felonies...and he's in prison...but she still marries the guy? Wow. Story 5: I would have told the delivery service that if they EVER sent that racist woman to my house again I would be calling lawyers faster than you can say Johnny Cochran.
Story 4: I should try that the next time someone tells me my car was involved in a crime. I know for a fact that it won't backfire, because I don't even own a car. I have had scammers try to sell me fake car insurance, but i don't remember any of them accusing me of a crime.
Story #3: Yeah.. I would not have waited. Just because a civilian calls the cops you don't need to stay! Especially if you KNOW you did NOTHING illegal! Just leave. What will the cops do against it if they are not even there yet? Punish you for knowing your rights?
Story 3 That was absolutely an entitled wannabe vigilanty karen. The moment she doesnt believe op's gf its no doubt. Just, in this case, her observation was valid
There's nothing saying the owner called to get the cop in trouble. He may have just called trying to contact him to speak to him personally to discuss what had happened and the department insisted on knowing exactly why he was trying to personally contact an officer.
So about story 4: I relate. I would get spam calls constantly as well and it got to the point where I had to actually talk to the scammers to figure out how to get off their call lists. I wasn't nice about it. I had one call asking me about some property that I am apparently the owner of, news to me as I own exactly zero properties. I repeatedly ask the caller how the hell they got my number as the number shouldn't be registered to any property for exactly the above reasoning. She attempts to go back on script and I cut her off with logic, she apologizes and I never heard any more calls about property. Looking back though, I share my first and last name with my father and while it is true that my phone number shouldn't be attached to any property he owns there are a couple of things that makes the calls make sense. First, I have a larger online presence than he does. Second, if you ignore our middle names then we can easily be confused. I still feel justified though. No one should be contacting me about purchasing any property as I have none to sell.
If my brother was dating or engaged/married to a drug user and heard one instance of him letting her use my car, I would take my car back. Not that it would happen, my brother is a retired highway patrol officer and if he ever got caught up with a druggie he would lose his very lucrative pension. BUT, if I lent one of my extra cars to someone to use daily or even once (which I have done both in the past), I would have them sign a printed form stating they would not lend the car or let anyone else drive the vehicle or I am taking it back ASAP... Period. NOTE: Having a form in writing with both your and the borrower's name and signature is always a good idea. It proves they have not stolen the car and smooths thing out if they get pulled over and the officer asks if they have permission to use the car. That written note can help in many matters, not just that. It has the date(s) of authorized use and exactly who is authorized to drive it. That form becomes a CYA notice should anything go wrong.
Stealing a dog by calling its name and tricking/playing with it to get it inside is the WILDEST method of stealing a dog I've ever heard.
Especially if you live right next door to the people from whom you supposedly just stole the dog. They'd eventually see the dog when it was taken outside to do its business.
@@nadinenone4761fr or it could just come back through the doggy doors
I felt like such a dickhead lol
ETA im so lucky i didnt "get caught" coz they would never have believed it was an honest mistake!
The cop story is one of those
" i should NOT be a allowed to leave the house before i fully wake up"
I wake up much earlier than I really need to specifically to make sure I am FULLY awake before I get out of the house on my way to work because I also have no business doing anything before I am completely awake.
Exactly. When tired a person is a danger to everyone else on the road
Yeah seriously, if you are so out of it that you forget to pay for something, I really don't want you driving a car.
…people in abusive relationships cover for their abusers all the time?!? What do you mean? I’m sure that’s what she was thinking.
Aside from what the other person said, I agree. I heard that and was like: "What the fuck do you think that's for?"
Maltese? Teacup Poodle?
Idk if she was stereotyping him based on his build. I just kind of assumed the “your kind” thing was racial.

Same, tbh
No point blocking the numbers immediately, the numbers scammers use often belong to legitimate people. You might block someone by mistake. Simply if no message is left then you know that it is a scammer calling. What you simply do is tag it in your phone as a possible scammer, then when you do answer that number and find it is being used as such just simply tell them to F-Off then just block it, or report it, if you can, as being a fraudulent number.
@Ryanthusar After ignoring the ring, I always check my voicemail. It's only if it's a No Message call that I'd block a number.

Story 3: strongly disagree. Calling the police after the gf told her what is up is extremely vile.
The delivery-woman forgot her white sheet with matching hood. Whe she talked to the police officers, she forgot to "salute the leader".
When Fluff said "think Karen think" I literally had this image in my head of Omni man (from invincible) grabbing a Karen and yelling THINK KAREN THINK!
Story 4: I swear every time I answer the phone on an unfamiliar number with "WHAT?!" It turned out to be from the blood center seeking donation. That was an embarrassing backpedal
I've taken to answering unknown numbers with "So what is YOUR scam!?" And yeah, so far all have been scammers/spammers. 🤨
Yeah unknown numbers, if I answer at all, get to talk to Chewbbakka😅
@@lynneconklin917 People should expect the unexpected when they have to call someone in the middle of the night, even for a valid reason. You're probably waking someone from a sound sleep and folks aren't usually cheerful about being startled and awakened, lol.
The first story totally reminds me of the scene in "So Long and Thanks for all the Fish" where a random man sitting at the same table as Arthur eats one of the cookies from Arthur's packet without saying a word. Then the two stare at each other contemptuously without speaking, alternately eating until the package is gone...then, after the man leaves, Arthur picks up his newspaper and discovers it was covering his own identical packet of cookies.😂😂
omg same! that scene was hilarious. kinda R.I.P. Fenchurch too
I disagree with Story 3. He may say that now, but what if the cops believed the old lady? His life could’ve been ruined
Story 2. The "Burrito Bandit" would have been way better than "Burrito Burgler."
Burrito bandito!
I'd modify it slightly to "El Burrito Bandito" 😀
@@erinmalone2669 When I worked at a library we kept having someone leave burritos on the shelves and once smashing one in a book. I dubbed the person the Burrito Bandito
Oof, that last story. I was almost ready to be like hey, if she thought she saw a dog get stolen, sure that's stupid but at leas- OH. OH. I SEE.
Yeah. Romulans ever only own rottweilers and pit bulls. You don't want to know what Kardassians own. Or the Jem-Hadar.
good for the old lady for standing up for someone in a potentially dangerous situation.
WRONG! That is entirely the WRONG thing to do. NEVER confront someone you think is potentially dangerous. Call the cops FIRST.
Sorry but no. The moment the alleged victim says that’s not what was happening that should’ve been it.
Story one through four had me laughing and shaking my head and then came story number five. Lol
Don't shake your head *too* hard. Fluff's careful about that.
10:32 story 3. The rare well-meaning Karen
When in Wackyland, never trust the cops. They break the oath all the time.
Story 3: yeah I agree with OP. That woman did the right thing, and I have a similar story
My ex and I have been broken up for 6 years as of the writing of this, but we have a son together.
"This is from IRS. "
😅
Someone on here tried sating we need more people like her and yeah no in theory its a good plan but if human trafficking or rape were the agenda? putting your life and other peoples lives at risk is a huge no
Why did the couple have to stay? Call the non-emergency number, explain to the police, and LEAVE
Counter point: the old lady may have believed the girl friend was in an abusive relationship and needed help. But there too, you need to be able to gauge reactions - the laughing at the lady should have been a giveaway that the girl was safe.
Abused partners do cover for their abusers sometimes though
@@lulolie true doesn't mean the old lady should've confronted the potential abuser what if he was abusive and ended up beating the girl to death for 'snitching' on him once home?
I know someone who answers all unknown numbers with "bridge of the Enterprise, communications officer speaking."

Some of the previous few spam calls I answered, I pretended to be a manager of a morgue or a crematorium.
Story 2: I wouldn’t say the officer was entitled. It was 5 am and he was tired probably on auto pilot. I’m with Fluff that they could have waited until he was there next.
They made it seem like he was this evil horrible man. Also theft? Really? Ain't they just a bundle of bricks.
Maybe OP was not "friendly" with the staff. He probably did not develop a relationship with them.
@@foogod4237 exactly being that tired makes him a danger to everyone on the road.
Hi everyone
This is Big Tony"
Overall the spam calls have decreased, but the sheriff probably still gets a laugh when he thinks of me.
Story 3: maybe be a bit more careful with what you do in public OP, 😂
I have to say that if I saw some guy pour pill contents into a lady's drink while she was in the restroom, I would also make it known to the lady as she exited the restroom. I'm a man so I would not go into the restroom to tell her. I'd wait, excuse myself to her and stop her politely. Then explain what I witnessed. If the lady said all was fine and the guy showed me the empty pill casing and the packet they came from, I would let it go... as long as the lady was 100% honest with me. Any sign of distress in her eyes and I would call the police (discreetly).
The ammount of mishaps this episode has makes my gringe levels rise out of limits.
Last story: people like that driver never think. They just assume everything. Asking a Karen to think is like asking them to apologize. It's not gonna happen
If she stopped to think for a second, she would have rang the neighbour's doorbell before calling the police.
(don’t answer that 🤣)
Oh, I feel so much better now that I have emptied my account. Yes, I’ll do that.
Then I’ll leave just the $10 fee, they will only be able to withdraw $10 and then they will send me my new tablet (that keeps changing brands).
I have soooo many questions.
That man in the first story was very gracious...
Story 1: When the intrusive shower thought actually becomes reality lmao that's so horrid I just hope OP can laugh it off and move on from it.
Story 3: I LOVE that woman. Need more people like her
I think not!
One way, personal satisfaction. The other one is big money & I doubt that a little old lady would be any threat, and she's not going to be able to make him wait for the cavalry😢!!!
Yeah she did good but putting yourself, the potential victim and innocent people in danger? no

That's no reason for her to be fired.
elder scrolls skyrim ost: This would be epic as the police are rolling up on a house to serve a warrant.
I has phone...mooooomy get up!"
That scammer was crying by then saying "What have I done!"
I just hung up. Click.

Story 2: Under UK law that would not be theft, as there is no dishonest intent. Difficult to prove the lack of intent, though.
Story 4
Reason op didnt get into trouble is cause his mistake is perfectly valid, and once corrected, he didnt keep denying his mistake, but helped instead.
Keep on briefing xD
pay phone? these days?

I usually wait and let them voice mail me, but most of them don't.
Story 4: damn OP’s sister ignored EVERY red flag possible, can’t believe she actually married the dude.
Story 1 was extremely easy to avoid. "Excuse me is this the pizza for the team party?" Literally that's all that's necessary.
To be fair, in the last story, I thought what the "Karen" did was an honest mistake since she doesn't know OP, OP's neighbor, or that they both own dogs UNTIL she said "His kind don't own GRs".
Yeah, everyone seems to be glossing over the fact this woman is racist!
Well don't feel to bad it's obvious reddit karma bait
Story one is one of those stories that keep you awake at night.
Edit: and story 2
Story 3: No, you didn't HAVE to wait around for the cops. That's actually the best time to just say duck it and duck out. Ain't got to explain 💩
Here we are, 45yrs later, I guess there’s a doctrine in the courts saying that if you’re doing stuff they infer to mean you’re trying to steal stuff, that’s good enough.)
So basically the opposite.
The story with the gas, all I could think I would have told the officer that they can arrest me for the gas and for the IRS! He made it sound like it was that type of scam.
Last story; In Karen's defense, Goldens are probably the easiest dogs too steal. Give one a good ear scratch and they'll follow you anywhere.
Story 3
That was absolutely an entitled wannabe vigilanty karen.
The moment she doesnt believe op's gf its no doubt.
Just, in this case, her observation was valid
Story 3: oh no I can see how it looks as it’s unraveling! The secondhand embarrassment hurts me
Story 4. I’m listening to this at work and cracking up! 😂 I can’t help it.
There's nothing saying the owner called to get the cop in trouble. He may have just called trying to contact him to speak to him personally to discuss what had happened and the department insisted on knowing exactly why he was trying to personally contact an officer.
Story 2 Is that poor cop- how mortifying!
Last story: She must be making big bucks at her delivery job, that she can take an hour or more to get up in other people's business, like that 🤔
If my brother was dating or engaged/married to a drug user and heard one instance of him letting her use my car, I would take my car back.
