Although I generally agree, this episode was not "gold". The bear story is funny but listening to them discuss fears of animals and insects doesn't constitute a great sleep routine. This episode went off the rails, it was entertaining at least.

43:20 I'm from Southern california. We went to Australia on vacation about 5 years ago. We were at that island where you can see penguins and I had to go to the bathroom which was a separate shack. After I peed, I shined my phone's flashlight in the corners and nearly shit my pants. There were about 200 spiders of all colors and sizes in the corners. The biggest was the size of my hand.
Australia does not f*** around when it comes to animals! We also went to the beach where there are saltwater crocodiles that sometimes wander onto the beach! We still went there to enjoy the sunset but you better believe I had my eyes peeled

That’s a good thing for your son Adam, because of what you guys did, you are optimizing his learning process in his advantage, instead of him struggling in the future. You’re improving the learning outcomes overall. I’ve seen it first hand with my niece. Best decision my sister made, it also helps them feel more confident instead of feeling so overwhelmed with the curriculum, and overall makes them have more interest in school because it becomes a little easier. Good luck!!

You will not regret holding your child back. You did it at the right age. We did that for my son. And now that he’s older (upper L) he is right where he should be emotionally and socially. He is not any bigger than his peers. If he were in one grade older you see a significant difference in size, maturity, socially pretty quick. Sept is the cut off in our state, his bday is Aug. you made the right decision. You will see that in upper grades.

Adam, I wouldn’t use the terminology that your son is being held back. He isn’t. I had 4 kids under 5 back in the 80’s (all singles) 2 boys 1st, followed by 2 girls. The 2nd boy was born July 30th. Back then they suggested all boys (especially) that were born in June, July, & August not start school in September. A lot of it is for maturity. It very much depends on the kid. Number 4 child was born Sept 24, so she missed the cutoff by 2 weeks. We had her tested and she went in Sept. With her, the concern was how she’d do in athletics being she was younger. With her being the youngest of 4, and all of them had gone to preschool, she was ready. Also turned out to be the right decision for her. When looking back, you can’t tell who started at what age. I wouldn’t rush it. I know it’s a big commitment, but I’d also consider homeschooling in our current environment. Especially in CA😉
