I feel like there's a gross misunderstanding of what a wendigo is, why, and what they do. Being a cannibal is part of it, but there was no such thing as being a criminal cannibal, the entire story relies on looking at it from the cultural context. This was a time when the people moved during the seasons, and while the food was plentiful, there were times when a tribe would find themselves in a struggle during a winter. This would mean going days without food, which is a major factor in Indigenous peoples tending to be overweight, as our bodies are made for fasting, so they store calories to fat more efficiently, which is great when there's no food, but you get fat quick if there's always a lot of it (also lactose intolerance, inability to properly digest processed foods, sensitivity to sugar, especially refined). If it went further than that, the people would eat whatever they could, but one thing no one ever did was cannibalize other people to survive. Regardless of your opinion on it, that was considered absolutely unacceptable, like unforgiveable. Anyone going to the lengths of cannibalization would, at that point, be emaciated, starving, and rail thin. Their hunger is what drives them to do it. So, as punishment, the person who ate human flesh would be condemned to forever be tortured by intense and ravenous hunger, that will never be satiated, no matter how much they eat. Their bodies will lose weight, even if they eat a whole cow, and it will just make them hungrier. Their hair falls out, they become impossibly skinny, but unable to die, driven mad by the hunger that never relents. This is what a wendigo is. It is a very specific creature, created by a very specific act, that was actually a possibility at the time. The story is horrifying because it's meant to push the people to find any means necessary to forage for food, and to die with dignity if that's not possible, because to eat a person would only give you a half-life of eternal torture. It was seen as too great a cost and too selfish an act. Bodies were family, they were part of your tribe, you had to honour them. We feast our dead, no one could ever participate in honouring the dead if they ate an ancestor. It's unthinkable. So, while I enjoy scary stories, I just find the mention of this creature always ruins it for me, because they're so silly. This mimic thing, the voice throwing, crying baby sounds thing, it's dumb, that would never happen. These things are single minded and obsessed with food and ending the hunger, they wouldn't play spooky games, they're not even human anymore. Also, the darkness that is manifested when a wendigo is created, that darkness isn't only in that being, that darkness exists through many other spiritual ideas. We say the shamans who decide to use the medicine for their own selfish ends and hurt people tap into that same darkness. That's where bearwalkers (like skinwalkers only different First Nations, those are Diné, while these are from the same people who have the wendigo) get their powers. It's not a huge part of our culture, because those people, the ones who misuse our medicine or cannibalize people, they were always ostracized, they weren't permitted to be around hurting people and bringing bad medicine into our circles.
Their bodies will lose weight, even if they eat a whole cow, and it will just make them hungrier. OH MY GOSH. The black van that pulled up and the investigators asking "strange" questions??? ITS THE WINCHESTERS
Falling asleep to scary stories always fun !
Thanks for the narration
My new favorite narrator
Thank you!
Has anyone else walked through the woods only to realise its dead quiet? Its as creepy and unnerving as it gets
My English class makes me not want to write a story but these horror stories make want to write a horror story
Thank you Mr S!! I always love and appreciate your videos! 💕
Narration is on point👌🏽
love the narration.
Love your work, Mr. Sinister!
Thank you!
I live in the North Woods and have a lot of Native family members so I've also been intrigued by the wendigo and it is the only monster that seems to scare me. And thats partially because if how human it looks from a far, by the time you can see its some horror of the night you're already too late. I think thats what scares me most
My grandmother is Lenni Lenape, and she even said watching these is like playing with fire, 😬 so torn
If it was a Wendigo how come was it able to imitate the aunt's voice? I've never heard of Windogs being able to do that.
These stories are painfully fictional
Wendigos can imitate voices🤦♂️
I love win dogs :D
Wendigos are known to mimic voices but they can only repeat phrases they have heard before, most of the events in these stories are impossible but still cool to listen to if you just want a story.
@@pinmaster6019 same bro

Thank you!
I once saw a skinny tall figure in the distance in the woods and it had no eyes
That first story sounds more like a wendigo

Almost inspired me to tell my story, almost.

Story by Christian “I’m not going to give my name” 😂
Really enjoyed the narration
I love these videos
Can confirm all these stories
No matter what has to do with a wendigo, tv show, movie or story, at The beginning The star always thinks it is a grizzly bear
I love the Wendigo. I am not kidding. I even want to be one!
Oof the South Dakota one hits too close to home.
Story two just sounded like a person feeding animals to a wendigo
