I love how intentional they are about everything. Every moment seemed like they were mindfully aware of it. The cautious way they scooped into the cheesecake. The way they'd spin the plate. The tastings. Their prayers. I just love their mindfulness.
Their brains aren't overstimulated like ours. I have family back in rural India and it's pretty insane just how different our mindsets are. I have so much "more" than them, yet they are the ones that seem content. And blissful about many things I deal with on the daily.
Well of course, they're being asked to try and review a new food. If someone put you on camera and put some new food in front of you, would you just shove it mindlessly in your mouth?
That is a common expression as you go to near and Middle East. That is how you show respect to elders as well, you kiss their hands for all good things they have done.
The humbleness of these people remind me of a blessing in Turkish before every meal: Instead of wishing everyone a bon appetite they wish health to the cook‘s hands.

I just made my first, all scratch, old fashioned cheesecake last night. Springform pan and all. It came out perfectly. A taste the commercials could never fully approach. I can't believe I haven't been making these for years. They're so easy. I'm thinking they would be a good way to teach a kid how to bake. Hard to screw up & impressive results.

I'm thinking it would be abt like being a Big Mac chef. 😊😜 And I've made three now. Never really baked much at all. And I found them quite easy to make. A lot less prep than say Asian.

I know it’s been said but the fact that they acknowledge the person who made it shows an understanding about humanity that I think we often lose. They have such appreciation for both the food and its chef. Often in the west we only reference the food but they take that and make it a part of a person; someone made this magical food and they deserve praise.
You're completely right, you can tell they respect food more just by the pace they're eating. In the west we've gotten so used to stuff our faces. We don't eat slow and enjoy the taste as much anymore.
@@blowingbubbles681 I feel like a lot of people in the west (mainly speaking abt USA since that's what I'm familiar with) assume the food is mass produced made in a factory with automation from machines doing a lot of the work and a line of quality control workers unless it's stated otherwise. I don't think it's rare for people to point out skill in artisan crafts though? People value talented individuals worldwide. If you want a somewhat common example I hear people express how perfectly a steak is cooked and say "send my compliments to the chef" or pointing out the skill of a baker making confections, pastries, or icing cakes. This value for the process of making something is very noticeable in wine and cheese enjoyers. Same with a lot of people who like alcohol who relish the taste and notice the hard work and effort of making a good moonshine, whisky, rum, mead, cider, etc. When it's actual homemade cooking people usually take the time to appreciate it and whoever made it or at least think it in their head. I'm from the south in the US and there's definitely importance put on home cooking, I imagine that's the case with a lot of the states not just areas with 'southern cooking'. Although I feel like it's most intense around Cajun dishes like jambalaya and gumbo and it draws parallels to NY and NJs pizza appreciation.

This was a beautiful video. Not only did I grin, but I also was almost brought to tears. What was so profound to me was how they gave respect to the person who made the cake. Today, the people who make our food are usually forgotten about and only remembered for the times that they make mistakes. Also, a lot of our food isn't even made by people.
I used to make pies ina factory. The only part we touched was the dough. To see this amount of gratitude for such a simple, yet delicious dessert makes that job feel a little less cruddy.

I know western people don't like to associate religion with everything else because your societies have "detached" from the religious path and decided you no longer needed it, for Muslims, Islam is a way of life not just a belief.
What I appreciate the most is that each of these individuals has such a unique a personal connection to their meals and food. They treat it with such respect and genuine ceremony. Its as if sharing a meal with someone is the most simple yet most respectful act you could do to show your love. My life is truly forever changed by this demonstration of humility and companionship.

I just made my first, all scratch, old fashioned cheesecake last night. Springform pan and all. It came out perfectly. A taste the commercials could never fully approach. I have to admit sitting here with covid watching these people enjoy a novelty food with such compassion and care definitely made me feel better.
I know it’s been said but the fact that they acknowledge the person who made it shows an understanding about humanity that I think we often lose. They have such appreciation for both the food and its chef. Often in the west we only reference the food but they take that and make it a part of a person; someone made this magical food and they deserve praise.

@@blowingbubbles681 I feel like a lot of people in the west (mainly speaking abt USA since that's what I'm familiar with) assume the food is mass produced made in a factory with automation from machines doing a lot of the work and a line of quality control workers unless it's stated otherwise.
I don't think it's rare for people to point out skill in artisan crafts though? People value talented individuals worldwide. If you want a somewhat common example I hear people express how perfectly a steak is cooked and say "send my compliments to the chef" or pointing out the skill of a baker making confections, pastries, or icing cakes. This value for the process of making something is very noticeable in wine and cheese enjoyers. Same with a lot of people who like alcohol who relish the taste and notice the hard work and effort of making a good moonshine, whisky, rum, mead, cider, etc.
When it's actual homemade cooking people usually take the time to appreciate it and whoever made it or at least think it in their head. I'm from the south in the US and there's definitely importance put on home cooking, I imagine that's the case with a lot of the states not just areas with 'southern cooking'. Although I feel like it's most intense around Cajun dishes like jambalaya and gumbo and it draws parallels to NY and NJs pizza appreciation.
If anyone had told me before lockdown that a year on I'd be waiting in breathless anticipation for four delightful strangers to taste a cheesecake I'd have said you were mad. Well here we are. Thank you guys. You have brought light, grace and humour to these dark days. Take care.

This is so eye opening to the way other cultures think. Never in my life have I ever thought about the person who made the cake, only that I either loved it or hated it and if I liked it I’d go back and give the company plenty of business in the future. To take a step back and send your appreciation regardless if the creator ever hears it is unbelievably selfless. Thank your for showing me a better way to think and helping shape me into a more appreciative person!!!!
I also think that it’s the religion the fact of mentioning the gratitude for the person who created it basically thanking a creator it is kind of beautiful even though I hate religion but I love seeing faith in other people

@AdPrincipium they follow the Sunnah of praising God before eating and slowling eating to enjoy the food and get its benefits, these are rhe things our prophet advised us to do. I know western people don't like to associate religion with everything else because your societies have "detached" from the religious path and decided you no longer needed it, for Muslims, Islam is a way of life not just a belief.

What I appreciate the most is that each of these individuals has such a unique a personal connection to their meals and food. They treat it with such respect and genuine ceremony. Its as if sharing a meal with someone is the most simple yet most respectful act you could do to show your love. My life is truly forever changed by this demonstration of humility and companionship.
Food is one of the most basic things a person can share with another. There's a reason there's a version of the phrase "breaking bread together" almost everywhere in the world.

Also, this channel isn't about Western culture being better. It's about expanding the horizons of tribespeople and connecting people from all over the world with them. They do everything from painting to looking at wedding dresses from every country. And please don't try to hold up any one culture as if it's precious. I'm from a non-Western country and I can tell you that's how you end up fetishizing some cultures and defending some heinous practices down the road.

To this day cheescake makes me puke. It's just so disgusting, I can't imagine how anyone can LIKE it, let alone keep a bite down for more than a few seconds. I mean I kept a shot of gasoline down on a dare once, no problem. I ate a bag of chocolate covered crickets. But cheesecake makes me puke every time.
