  • The Alhambra is a palace and fortress complex located in Granada, Andalusia, Spain. It is one of the most famous monuments of Islamic architecture and one of the best-preserved palaces of the historic Islamic world, in addition to containing notable examples of Spanish Renaissance architecture.
The Alhambra was one of the first Islamic monuments to become the object of modern scientific study and has been the subject of numerous restorations since the 19th century. It is now one of Spain's major tourist attractions and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The architecture of the Nasrid palaces reflects the tradition of Moorish architecture developed over previous centuries. It is characterized by the use of the courtyard as a central space and basic unit around which other halls and rooms were organized.
Granada is the capital of the homonymous province, in the autonomous community of Andalusia. It is located in the central part of the Vega de Granada region, by the Genil river and by the foothills of the highest massif of the Iberian Peninsula, Sierra Nevada, which determines its climate.
Muslim Granada was the capital of the Zirí kingdom of Granada, during the 11th century, and of the Nasrid kingdom of Granada between the 13th and 15th centuries. After the capture of the city by the Catholic Monarchs, it remained the capital of the Castilian kingdom of Granada, which was already a simple territorial jurisdiction and which was maintained until 1833, when a new provincial division was produced in Spain, which is still in force. Its municipal coat of arms bears the titles of “Very noble, loyal, named great, famous and heroic city of Granada”.
Granada is a city that receives a large number of visitors, both national and international, thanks to its extensive artistic-monumental, cultural and ethnological heritage, including its Spring Festivals (Holy Week and Corpus Christi).
