    I never drove a tractor with a super 10, but I did drive older medium duty trucks with a 2 speed axle. It seems like the same thing, each gear has a high and low. I did have a tractor with a 13 speed that you split the high range gears.

    I miss the super 10 transmission. easy peasy drove both the regular super ten and the super ten top 2 last gear was automatic

    Never used the clutch, when pushing button forward, push or pull gearshift into neutral, then back into same hole. This gives it time to shift. Downshifting the same, move button back, blip the throttle in neutral to match speed, then back into next lower gear

      thank you thank you for that information about downshifting the super 10 about pressing the throttle when you go into neutral and let the gears fall back between 300 around 350 RPMs and putting it back into gear that's where I've been messing up

    I get the idea behind the super 10, but let's be real, if you have an issue with a super 10, the solution is to drop in an Eaton 13 speed! Don't waste your $ on rebuilding or fixing this pile of transmission garbage. If your truck got it, and it moves the truck, grind em till your stuck on road... then install 13 speed. My 2 cents. Got some super 10's on road right now, only 2 of 10 drivers can even remotely shift this monstrosity of a retarded transmission. I can float it, but sometimes I just loose the trans all together. Some times the truck stays in low when shifted to neutral. So slowly let out the clutch when parking. Stupid 10

      You should have driven a truck with a Lightning-10. I call it a Frightening-10, worst transmission because it's a Super-10 with a transmission computer. It uses a solenoid to activate the air shift between gears. In top position you immediately flick the switch to high and it automatically changes between 9 and 10 in top gear position. The top ten fleets in the US took Eaton to court and forced the manufacturer to stop manufacturing and supplying the Lightning family of transmissions, because as soon as the speed sensor housing had a seal leak, the transmission would never work properly again.

      @@hudsondonnell444 I finally had to swap 1 stupid 10 over to regular 10 sp just so I didn't have to re gear the truck. Makes the truck get better MPG! Lol. Oh wow an "automatic" stupid 10, I can only imagine, your driving down the road, next thing you know your transmission shifts. There's somting to when they cross over from 2-3 a 4th and 5th positions, like u say a selonoid. I can't imagine how a they even programmed that "automatic" to work. No wonder the stupid 10's are gone, when it the entire trucking industry tells u it sucks, it kinda sucks. Like a 2010 paccar MX. Lol.

      Can you float a super 10? Starting a new job this week and my truck will have a super 10. Seems pretty easy to drive.

    Ok so although this is counter to the practical shifting many drivers seem to do (that I hear may cause premature transmission wear, but others contest this), why is he engaging the clutch "halfway" (I'd assume it should be all the way, but hopefully someone can also explain this) during the split from 1 to 2 and 3 to 4, but not when he's going from 5 to 6 and on? At 9:49 he does mention this can be done as thought it was done differently at the beginning. I'd like some clarification here. I do not drive trucks, I'm just really curious, heh.
    Also, why did the narrator make it seem like shifting from 6th to 7th (he says something about range) was any different from any other gears including a double-clutch (he mentions it in both up and downshifting)?
    I completely understand the double-clutching and why it should be done.

      ***** You seem to misunderstand the nature of a question. One asks it because they haven't found the answer themselves (in my case, after trying to a reasonable extent) and is seeking an appeal to another individual who may happen to know the answer already or is more keen to interpret the data or what have you. This happens all the time and there is nothing wrong with it and there is no good reason to be called out and tried to be made a fool based off of it.
      If you think that someone who asks a question is simply lazy and wants someone to do work for them, I'm sorry you feel that way and may generalize that to every question that is asked, but such is being human: something people can't make sense of something; it doesn't make them retarded and it doesn't make someone who answers their question weak or any less of a person for helping them out.

      IIllytch321 To explain this simply. the clutch on these trucks have multiple positions. All the way off(or up) clutch is engaged, then you have the free play space( usually from all the way up to 2-3 inches down), right after that is the clutch disengage(pedal about half down), last is pedal to the floor(this is the clutch brake). Clutch brake stops the spinning of the transmission so that you can engage 1st or reverse from vehicle stop

    I am so confused. Drove the super 10 and my instructor couldnt explain it right. He's telling me to only clutch taking off and stopping. Floating the other ones, But I cannot feel when to shift..how to do that?

      The clutch is there for a reason. Lazy drivers "float" gears. I've seen many shift rails wear out, especially when different drivers use the same truck. If you've driven a regular 10 and understand double clutching this transmission is much easier. When you button shift use the clutch like you would shift a car. When you use the stick, double clutch. When you move the button and stick at the same time, preselect the button right before the shift while you have slight pressure on the accelerator.Then just double clutch when you move the lever just as you would a normal 10. Hope this helps. 1 through 5 around 1200 rpm, 6 through 10 around 1600 rpm.

      Any driver worth hiring can float gears without hurting the transmission but by the sounds of it you should keep with it ;)

      Best way to learn is to use the 2 finger method on the stick. Put 2 fingertips on the stick and apply light pressure like you're trying to pull it out of gear .As you wind that gear to the top of its regular shift point, let off of the accelerator and you will notice the stick easily fall out of the gear. Use that same slight force to just barely tickle the next gear. When the RPMs have dropped the correct amount (300-500 RPM Depending on your truck) the stick will go into the next gear with ease.
      You have to shift fast enough to not lose too many rpm or road speed. But at the same time,not forceful.

    I've been having some trouble with the down shifting and can't seem to make it seamless and I hate grinding the gears. my instructor couldn't explain it or do it well either without grinding. Any suggestions??

      for downshifting the differences is to Rev the engine while in neutral to 500 R P M from wherever the gauze of the r p m is from . Than shift to next low gear. that's all.

    Tell me how to take off from a stop sign on a up hill grade that transmission is a peace shit west of the Mississippi and I can't c it would good pulling Johnstown PA that transmission only works good for grain haulers in Central IL

      The position of the button helps you a lot. It really isn't much different than driving a 5 speed. You should check out the triplex. You literally have three shifters on that. I think it's a four speed mated, mated to a three speed, that's mated to a two speed. I believe you shift the 2 speed first, then the 3 speed, then the 4. So, when you're shifting the 4 speed into the second position, you move all the others back into first. Now THAT is the nightmare transmission, lol. It was years ago that I studied it, but I think that's how it works. There's also a shift pattern with 20 gears... and they're all in weird positions.

      tom shaw Dude... this video is old. Older (mechanical) trucks are high revving. If you progressive shift a mechanical motor you'll burn that fucker out in no time.

    LAZY! That is what people who cant shift call those who can.
    Yes, Buck, it is true. The clutch is there for a reason. Use it if you need too.
    However, if you PROPERLY shift without the clutch it will do no harm and will save the clutch. Do it wrong and there will be heavy damage.
    Dutch, best advice is to loosen up your grip on the stick. A "death" grip will always mess you up. And SLOWDOWN! no need to hurry your shift.
    Ray, you will get it. Just relax. Your instructor couldn't explain because, Those who can do, those who can't, teach.

      My dads been floating gears and has been driving over 20 years. He's had his own rig over 16 years (SAME RIG) truck runs and shifts as good as new trucks...even better since it doesn't have all the restrictive egr crap...if you are a real trucker you learn to float your gears right and save your clutch...

      Gino Byers floating gears causes long term wear on the clutching gear teach that double clutching doesn’t. Also, double clutching offers insurance in the even that you accidentally miss a shift. If you miss a shift while float shifting you can cause serious transmission issues where as if you miss a shift while double clutching you aren’t going to do serious damage. Sure, float shifting saves the clutch, but if you treat your truck right, it should only need one clutch replacement in its lifetime.

      I would agree with the 13/15 speed. The 10 was nice in town. I'm driving a 13 now for work. The 15 just seems dumb.

      Flip the switch, let off the throttle, then rev the engine up 350 rpms. Or for a faster shift flip the switch, let off the throttle, clutch, then rev up 350 rpms.
