I must say I agree 💔 He should've been in the jungle swinging through the trees. It's the most horrible thing what happens to these chimps & monkeys also. And they don't just have to kill the mother, they have to kill the whole troop to get that baby 😥
I know that kanze lives at a research facility where he is treated well but I have to say that seeing a large padlock on his neck is very disheartening . Yall need to do something else with the chain so you won't look so barbaric .
Thankfully, Kanzi has been removed from the facility and has also lost a bunch of weight. I believe he is in a sanctuary now. The woman who used to lead the research program was removed as the head after numerous complaints of her mistreatment of the animals, including Kanzi. It's awful they let him get so obese. He is more than twice the size he should be in this video and most of the ones on TH-cam.
I remember seeing Kanzi on TH-cam & watching how intelligent he is. I wasn't too thrilled about the lady who worked with him - she seemed too demanding of Kanzi. Animals need rest & time for themselves, just like humans. I agree with you that I wasn't crazy about seeing the padlock & chain on him. But this is a fascinating documentary!
@@iconifyme I have seen many interactions between her and Kanzi. They were cringe-worthy. In my opinion she was careless of his welfare and offered him no dignity.

OHMYGOODNESS!!! The last scene with Roger, and when he noticed the other chimp did was upset he did not get the cracker. Roger covered his eyes in sadness. He could not even eat the cracker. I understand and empathize with him. 🙈😢
I'm amazed with this documentary. It almost allows you to enter the chimp's mind. And closeups of these beautiful creatures (without any stupid music) are awesome. One thing tho, the paralyzed chimp is too young to be the one used in the beginnings of space program. He look young. But cool idea to put it together. Just to underline how chimps experiments are horrible. And the experiment at the end (not the sharing one) but with drooping the candy bar - sooo amazing. Didn't see that anywhere (at YT). I like to learn more about the details, the relation between chimps etc. But sharing and empathy are not considered to be known to animals, sooo... who chimps really are? Who are we for real?
The paralyzed chimp looks like Knuckles from Center For Great Apes, who has cerebral palsy. If it is Knuckles, he wasn't in the space program and you're right that they stitched that together. Knuckles was born in 1999 into the entertainment industry and moved to Center For Great Apes (a sanctuary) when he was two.
This amazing video does exactly that!! Thank you for saying it so succinctly! The video did seem to allow us to ENTER THE CHIMPS MIND! I’ve never seen a more quiet chimp go through such emotion and keep it all in. Chimps are the most vocal of all the primates poor Rodger had no troop to call out to. He had no way to run around and display or scream to. But maybe he did scream out. Who would have comforted him? But doctors could sedate and shut the door until the next day. Great video! Can’t help but think about it.
Amazing video. imo Roger has gone through so many different types of tests and has affected him spiritually and physically. The people that have experimented on him imo wouldn’t disclose the different tests and experiments. Roger just looks lost. Just my opinion. RIP Roger
The problem with this video is that there is no info and they mislead. That last chimp isn’t roger. Or the roger buried where knuckles sat. Those clips are from the 60s. That was knuckles who was born with cerebral palsy and only expected to live a few years. He was well taken care of and couldn’t live a normal life with other chimps because they would end up killing him. He had nothing to do with the space program testing or any testing and he was never famous. Im all for videos that expose how humans mistreat animals but this leaves a bad taste by using Knuckles as some kind of broken product from human testing when he was just born disabled and didn’t stand a chance but humans gave him the best life they could for 22 years. Knuckles passed away last year 2021. RIP.
Roger was an awesome dude. He went on strike and sacrificed in order to support his friend in his righteous protest against the inequality his friend was dealt!. Yes, seriously. Roger was a stand-up guy, everytime. If his friend did not receive equal reward then Roger would refuse HIS unequal reward as well. This happened time after time in those sessions.
Wow the things those guys went through for us is just leaves me speechless and in tears the are so amazing and if only they knew how important they are and loved im forever greatful for their sacrifice and sad fir them all at the same time they are my heros!!!
So you actually think all that torture was worth our god forsaken lives do you your totally delusional wake up to yourself these sick individuals who called themselves scientists shouldv been put in a bloody cage for the rest of their lives and see how they wouldv come out of it in the end “ vegtables “ most likely and the animals were taken against their will wich is kidnapping incase you need to be reminded you M

Your parents adopted you because they WANTED YOU... ungrateful HUMAN. Had you never known the difference, you wouldn't have all this self pity. Get over it! There are people living horrendous lives and here you are actually COMPLAINING
Unbelievable.....If you aren't crying by the end of this video, you aren't connected to your Self...! If you don't know what longing feels like, you won't relate....
20:30 rather _Kanzi: Another Lifelong Experiment_ [once again confirming Apes are proficient with memory, recall & mimicry, but definitely *_not_* communication] 23:57 never before glimpsed archival footage; Thank you! Brilliant
Beautifully done video, without a word spoken!! Rodgers’s story is almost too hard to watch, but going from past to present gives every odd behavior, and facial gesture meaning . Grinding his teeth, zoning out, rocking and, toward the end, his whole facial expression seemed pained, as if he was holding back tears he never cried in the past. When he looks up to the tops of the trees I wonder if he is trying to imagine how different life could have been. But instead, a beautiful, bright eyed trusting Chimp gets used and abused until mind and body break. We need to begin to educate our hearts and spirit before our minds justify our own extinction for short term gain or advantage.
Sure does take a special kind of person to be able to keep these chimps for such long periods of time and maintain the good interactions and relationships for all those decades.
This is beautiful but so very sad. Such is life. We all get old our friends get old and leave us only with memories. Life is over it seems only seconds ago but it was 70 years. Cherish every moment, hug friends and family as much as you can because soon we'll all be gone and may not ever see each other again. Nobody knows what comes next; this could be it.
Wow, all I SEE is evil. This is so heartbreaking and disturbing. Chimps BELONG IN THE FOREST. Not in your home or in a cage or being fed cake for that matter.
I'm sorry but this film sickens me. All the abuse these chimps suffered through out their lives is so sad. Now that they are old and of no use anymore for their experiments they just get tossed a side to live out the rest of their lives damaged and suffering..suffering from being someone's pet, suffering from being someone's experiment , and suffering from being a test dummy. This just breaks my heart to no end. These chimps shouldn't have to live out the rest of their lives like this. This was all because of humans and the humans should have done the right thing and let them at least live out the rest of their lives in a retirement sanctuary so they can be chimps for the rest of their remaining lives. 😥😭💔🦧
and how else should they live? they would not be able to integrate with other chimps in a group, they certainly could not be released in the wild, and if they were not loved and pampered by these owners/family to them, they would be in a cage with no interaction just kept alive on the bare minimum, or worse euthanized! All the comments of horror at this are so naive and short sighted, these simple minded creatures truly love their owners in this video you can see it, and they have all their needs met, and some, including companionship and enrichment! They dont think much beyond that, humanizing them is to project your own complex outrage developed by your human experience and conditioning, and to say that they must be unfulfilled because you say they should, and you know what they would prefer! These animals can all communicate well enough, and they showed their approval in spades throughout each story... The director of this chose to spin the video by appealing to emotions of humans with the select camera angles and scenes! Consider a different way to look at this, and that maybe you cant say what they want, no matter how much you are emotionally triggered to..
I don't even care if it's not exactly right, but Cheeta having a beer and puffing a cigar on his birthday was absolutely priceless! It's crazy how human he looks with the things he does.
Oh my Good, this is very terrible so see. I fell so sad, angry and so many other reaktions. How was it possible to do al this kind of experiments without anybody stoped that. My heart is bleedig to look in the eyes of this animals. I have seen other experiments with disseases on animals, and all this is so heartbreaking. I hope it never, ever happen again. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Wow! Its amazing how intelligent a chimpanzee really is cheatta watching himself on TV shows he was conscious and cognitive of what's going on and seems in my humble recognised it was him I do wonder if he remembered those days of acting. Then seeing kanzi communicate and his responses was truly unbelievable and shows their even more intelligent than we could ever imagine so that being said we really need to consider the emotional aspects of them and how they feel!!
Cheeta, sitting by himself eating. Why not at least sit eating with him? Then it's obvious that he's aware that he's on the sideline, a wallflower, while everyone else is interacting. It's his birthday party, but he's alone. I thought so, his mother was murdered so he could be kidnapped. Disgusting how that guy orders him around and has no remorse for what he did to Cheeta. He looks so lost & lonely, trying to fill the emptiness. Looks like he's remembering much sadness while watching the movies of himself. 😢
My heart was breaking around the 51:05 mark. He looks and acts so lonely. Vert sad that he is by his self. No interaction with anyone. These animals are very social and to see him so alone brought tears to my eyes
As I read some of the comments, as the film starts, I'm not sure I can watch it all. I'm sure it will haunt me from what I've saw in the past. But...I will, in support of them. I will donate as well. Thank you all.
After seeing this with pauses I feel almost pain or emptiness in my chest and I know i can't until I find all about this Ape-men because that they are. Not Ape as animals and also not as humans. Their loneliness is overwhelming.
I had to watch this in parts it had me crying so much, the nasa experiments were fucking beyond evil and the empathy test at the end broke me. I'll never forget what I watched in this film and everyone should be encouraged to share it because anyone who isn't reduced to tears by this has no true love in their hearts 🥺
I dont know if I can finish this. Its ripping my heart out that Cheeta never got to experience a life of free choice with other chimps and have those relationships. What a lonely life for an animal. 😥
There's no need to make a captive chimp obese to satisfy some strange curiosity, i'm an exotcit animal trainer and they will work just as well for praise, there's no need to treat them like that stuck in the fridge, what will be gained out of it.. I trained elephant and still train macaw parrot to free fly and I don't agree with anything that is damaging to the animal, as a child hood fan of Cheeta We must keep these animals' lives as close to normal as possible if we are to take on these animals It is possible for them to fly in their natural state, which is why I believe pet macaw parrots should be taught to fly, preferably free or on a harness. The last ape conducting a very similar ritual to his wild cousins they have been seen doing a celebratory rain dance when the rains come after months of the dry season, to see him still holds something of there culture is heartwarming to behold.
Sir, a Macaw and a Great Ape are TWO DIFFERENT CREATURES. Chimpanzees are food motivated creatures who ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT WORK FOR "PRAISE" because...while I may NOT be an"Exotcit" animal trainer, I am a Biologist (with a secondary in Anthropology) who worked at Yerkes National Primate Research Center in Georgia, USA and I can PROMISE you that Kanzi was never used "to satisfy some strange curiosity". He was one of the family and Ms.Sue's main concern every day of every year she worked with him which I might add, was around 25 years. A Primate will protect their food sources with their very lives and I assure you that Kanzi's health was of the utmost importance and concern for EVERYONE involved. The ONLY problem may have lain in the fact that he did not like to exercise as Great Apes are prone to be overweight when kept in captivity! They did their absolute best to keep the weight off & down and did a fine job at it as Kanzi, for no lack of effort, WAS NOT THE SIZE OF A SMALL TRUCK! He was kept on a very nutritious, BALANCED (for a captive chimp) diet....I'M SORRY SIR BUT... A GREAT APE WILL NOT WORK FOR ACCOLADES, FOOD AND FOOD ALONE IS THEIR MAIN MOTIVATION and will rarely lift a single finger for an "atta boi". The ONLY ISSUE that I could attribute to his over all SMALL sense of longing and SLIGHT sadness would be that they never allowed Kanzi a true "mate" and not just kitty babies.....
Hopefully with CGI no more wild animals will be taken from their families for people to make money. Heartbreaking that Cheeta has spent a life without nature and other chimps. 😥
Sorry but it's only gotten worse. TH-cam makes a killing off of videos made by people who have murdered monkeys, taken their babies, and exploited them. They dress them in stupid clothing, make them wear diapers, starve them to keep them small because baby monkeys get more views, and constantly bathe them. Then there are the Video Operators, (VOs) who video monkeys all day at the temples where they congregate. They actually murder baby monkeys by feeding them out of turn. (A huge no no when hierarchy is the rule.) They then film the higher ranking monkeys tearing apart the babies who broke the rules. The VOs KNOW this, yet they continue to film it in order to get more traffic to their channels. One guy is so bad, he starves his monkeys to the point where THEY EAT THEIR OWN DIAPERS! He's been reported over and over, but TH-cam allows the videos to stay up. I've posted a thousand times that people need to stop REPORTING these people, and instead, send emails to the ADVERTISERS because TH-cam won't change unless you hit em where it hurts... their WALLETS!
Roger was just completely broken 😢 these amazing creatures are so underestimated. We owe our supposed intelligence and evolution to protect and respect them, the vulnerables not abuse, exploit them.
Umm no...now it's very very ILLEGAL and you face FEDERAL indictment & imprisonment as well as a huge, multi million dollar fine for trafficking in endangered animals. Now, if you want to talk monkeys, we'll that's a horse of a different color....
That last poor chimp, broke my heart. He was totally ignored by his caretakers, no love or help to have a nice life and be able to enjoy himself with someone while he lived out his end of life. So sad!
Wonder if the folks in this film ever had a come to Jesus moment. This is just sad. The poor lab chimp must have been so lost. And I had to pick my mouth up once I realized what they'd done to the handicapped chimp. Terrible
The 3rd one, when that female chimp grabbed or bit his ear/face... you can see the stopped, and cut out a portion of the video... I wonder what all happened. I doubt the camera guy was the one to rush to help so I bet it was a pretty intense moment. Cutting that out really defeats the purpose of these mini documentaries... some commentary and little history on that would have be helpful.
Fucked up right. He still had the ear, so maybe she just nibbled a little. Who knows though. Chimps hate when another is free and they are not. They are psycho jealous creatures.
4:21 poor baby. Idk how some humans can be so cruel. I mean what kinda person can keep a wild beautiful creature in captivity like that and not think every day what that animal is missing out on being in its natural habitat. 🙏💔

Cheeta was around 50 years old at his birthday party. However, his trainer Tony Gentry ("the old dude in the wheelchair") lied that Cheeta was born in the 1930s when he was actually born 3 decades later, so the people at the party believed that Cheeta was around 82. Tony also lied that Cheeta was a movie star back in the '30s with roles in lots of Tarzan movies when in reality, he only played Cheeta in a TV movie and commercial later in his life when the public still believed Cheeta was older than he actually was.
Quite honestly I bet he was glad when he was gone because the dude was rather abusive to him. The nephew seems more reserved with him. Sad all the way around.

I must say I agree 💔 He should've been in the jungle swinging through the trees. It's the most horrible thing what happens to these chimps & monkeys also. And they don't just have to kill the mother, they have to kill the whole troop to get that baby 😥
The can of beer got me and smoking a cigar
Have you seen how wild chimps live? It's a bloodbath.
But it is barbaric. Why hide the truth?
@@kimgb8248 After seeing this violence and degradation of the characters of the Ape-people, leaving them in solitude, neither animal nor human.
I'm going to make a chain link with a leash like they had and see how people react.
My thanks to you for sharing this most powerful documentary.
My profound thanks to those apes who gave their all for us, you will not be forgotten...
The problem is these animals didn't choose to "give" their life for human entertainment. It was stolen from them.
OHMYGOODNESS!!! The last scene with Roger, and when he noticed the other chimp did was upset he did not get the cracker. Roger covered his eyes in sadness. He could not even eat the cracker. I understand and empathize with him. 🙈😢
TO me, when he covered his eyes, it looked like an expression of grief.
And people don't understand why there is a lot of suffering and tragedy against Humanity.
That is so wrong giving him a cigar and beers
Amazing video. imo Roger has gone through so many different types of tests and has affected him spiritually and physically. The people that have experimented on him imo wouldn’t disclose the different tests and experiments. Roger just looks lost. Just my opinion. RIP Roger
Knuckles
This happened time after time in those sessions.
our Roger in this video was Ham, Chimp no65. He went on strike because of injustice and often did so if he felt his brothers were not treated well.
My heart is broken. Those poor space chimps got me. Dang man, we owe that guy a better life than he has….facts!
Thank you for sharing this but PLEASE put some toys in the bird cages. They need enrichment too.
Why can't humans mind their business and leave animals where GOD made them live with their parents...😡😡😡😡
This is one of the saddest things I've ever seen. Humans are disgusting creatures!!! 😢😢😢😢
And u are one of them!

Such wisdom in those eyes.
The innocence in Cheetas eyes, no words.
Wow! I am at a loss for words. This was a roller coaster ride, of emotions. And, reallly hit my emotions. Amazing. Absolutley, amazing. Poor guy. This was really good. Thanks.
I was adopted and taken from my mother just like cheetah i feel very sad for him, yes i had a great life with my adopted parents but its not the same as growing up with your real mother! this brought me too tears! im now 62! :( i remember watching cheetah as a kid!
Your parents adopted you because they WANTED YOU... ungrateful HUMAN. Had you never known the difference, you wouldn't have all this self pity. Get over it! There are people living horrendous lives and here you are actually COMPLAINING
Your not seeing the right way, what happened with your mom being taken away
Unbelievable.....If you aren't crying by the end of this video, you aren't connected to your Self...! If you don't know what longing feels like, you won't relate....
Sobbing my heart out disgusting old b*****d. That poor chimp.
i stopped watching after i saw Cheetah! :(
true
How can anyone dislike this ? I guess it's about imprisoning animals in the first place..
Beer and a cigar....just what this animal DOESN'T need. I can see the next episode of Fatal Attraction shaping up here.

Brilliant
I have always been amazed with Kanzi and Sue’s work a lot of others helpers, He has such a wonderful soul, and sooo intelligent. Love it
😅his physical is traumatized he's not living
Beautifully done video, without a word spoken!! Rodgers’s story is almost too hard to watch, but going from past to present gives every odd behavior, and facial gesture meaning . Grinding his teeth, zoning out, rocking and, toward the end, his whole facial expression seemed pained, as if he was holding back tears he never cried in the past.
When he looks up to the tops of the trees
I wonder if he is trying to imagine how different life could have been.
But instead, a beautiful, bright eyed trusting Chimp gets used and abused until mind and body break. We need to begin to educate our hearts and spirit before our minds justify our own extinction for short term gain or advantage.
Knuckles
No3 needs more to play with he looks depressed and really bored just because he has a disability,
They all had such looks of sad resignation in their eyes.
OmG!! This is the saddest thing I’ve ever seen! Truly been crying my word the last one just horrible what happened to him.,.
SO CRUEL HUMANS ARE SO CRUEL THESE POOR CHIMPS IT MAKES ME CRY
So so cruelly. I hope chimp rescue people are watching
I know a lot of people got love for them but i hate to see when people try to make a monkey like a human
Rocking back and forth is an indication of stress sometimes very severe
Stop the cruelty! Stop animal testing!
agree
Oh my Good, this is very terrible so see. I fell so sad, angry and so many other reaktions. How was it possible to do al this kind of experiments without anybody stoped that. My heart is bleedig to look in the eyes of this animals.
I have seen other experiments with disseases on animals, and all this is so heartbreaking. I hope it never, ever happen again. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
The last one knows he went to the sky....and I sure hope he had a lot of good company at the end
Watching him smoke a cigar and drink a beer 💔 This whole thing is heartbreaking. These poor animals are not meant to live these lives.
a real show ... congratulations
the last chimp is named Knuckles, he had cerebral palsy. seeing him in the cemetery is really sad. He passed away in 2021.
Knuckles drags himself around. I longed for a gigantic wheelchair with a strong man to give him a ride.
When Cheta watches the tarzan videos, does he remember doing all those things?
I do think he remembers being in movies
Wow!the ape acted like a human and followed instructions . Amazing!
He should go to where the retired lab animals retire. Let him know freedom and other chimps
They went to Liberia, killed its mother so they could steal the ape; so sad.
Awesome Documentary
One f-ing grape...!
i love apes
Apes R Us.
Yeah that old man beat that poor chimpanzees with his cane, cause he would tell him put it down and pick it up real griffilly
....and probably the one that "paints"gets a little 'help" with his "painting"
I'll never forget what I watched in this film and everyone should be encouraged to share it because anyone who isn't reduced to tears by this has no true love in their hearts 🥺
the chimp makes 1000x more than i do as an artist. brb gonna reevaluate my life choices.
He doesn’t even know how to interact with the little one with a great apes natural instinct.
so sad seeing him alone, he should be with his own kind playing
So sweet❤ I used to watch his show😂
Hopefully with CGI no more wild animals will be taken from their families for people to make money.
The poachers not only kill the mother and father but they're entire family up to 12 members and they're still doing it
Umm no...now it's very very ILLEGAL and you face FEDERAL indictment & imprisonment as well as a huge, multi million dollar fine for trafficking in endangered animals. Now, if you want to talk monkeys, we'll that's a horse of a different color....
Saddest thing I've ever seen it's a shame
I always wondered growing up what "Monkey see, monkey Do" was in reference to? Now I know! Lol!
That last poor chimp, broke my heart. He was totally ignored by his caretakers, no love or help to have a nice life and be able to enjoy himself with someone while he lived out his end of life. So sad!
At 13:30 when the chimp climbed up with the birthday hat on and sat down did anybody else think about the exact same scene in the movie NOPE.
Where does the money go to for the Apestract - Cheetah seems to have a good life and is well cared for, respected and treated for his diabetis

What happened to Dr. Sue? Did they pull her away from Kanzi and the rest of the bonobos?
how old was cheeta at his birthday party? so the old dude in the wheelchair was his trainer that passed away right?
Cheeta was around 50 years old at his birthday party. However, his trainer Tony Gentry ("the old dude in the wheelchair") lied that Cheeta was born in the 1930s when he was actually born 3 decades later, so the people at the party believed that Cheeta was around 82. Tony also lied that Cheeta was a movie star back in the '30s with roles in lots of Tarzan movies when in reality, he only played Cheeta in a TV movie and commercial later in his life when the public still believed Cheeta was older than he actually was.
