Three days ago I saw HAGANE perform at the Tokyo Polytechnic University Festival. It was an outdoor stage in the rain, but I would like to say to the whole world that JUNNA's actual drum play was a monster, even more so than the video, and NAGI's vocals were not overshadowed by the drums at all.

      @Wyl7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Do they actually sound good live? I hope so. But I think the way they (and other Japanese bands) advertise videos like this as being live is disingenuous. This one is especially egregious in that they intentionally insert a couple bits of live audio in an attempt to fool the listener into thinking the entire performance is live audio… it’s not live, it’s 99% studio audio.

Junna runs a single bass, with double pedals. On the Hagane discord there is a pic of her drums from back, where the one pedal broke through the head. Hagane are incredible. Sakura such an incredible guitarist and composer, though Sayaka bassist wrote Hero Time. Nagi such a beautiful singer, I love her bright, warmth, and power. Junna is a beast on drums. 🤘⚔️

1:50 from her covers in the past, she uses swivel technique when she gets play as fast as that so I guess it's considered single stroke, isnt it?

Thank you for featuring Hagane (pronounced HA-ga-neh). They have to be considered one of the hot, up and coming groups, though they had to go through a major reboot in 2023. They were originally a five-piece with dual leads; they have recently re-formed as a four piece (more on that below).
The initial lineup came together in 2018, just as they were all finishing high school. Founding guitarist Sakura had been posting metal covers on youtube since she was 14, and gained notoriety as a technical beast with a taste for ferocious shredding. That is how most of the other band-members found her.
    Original lineup:
    Vocal: Chiemi
Guitar : Sakura Yoshida (also writes and arranges most of the music)
    Guitar : Mayto
    Bass : Sayaka
    Drum : Kanako Takahashi (b. 2001)
In 2019, Chiemi left and was replaced by Uyu. The band released three concert DVDs and a full-length album (“Code 9021”) during her tenure. From that lineup:
    “Soul Beats”: th-cam.com/video/k8NTRJ_yTxY/w-d-xo.html
The rhythm line seamlessly melds rock and funk throughout. The guitar solo is classic jazz fusion, but with distortion. The heavy use of minor and diminished scales gives it a vaguely middle-eastern vibe, but jacked up to searing intensity.
    “Super Villan” th-cam.com/video/MCqzm0nUxbM/w-d-xo.html
Huge guitar duel, with give and take and a lot of experimental ideas.
    “Black Cult” th-cam.com/video/LCheI6-MWhY/w-d-xo.html
From their most recently released album, another with lots of musical ideas, more guitar dueling, and powerful vocals from Uyu.
In early 2023, the band announced the departures of three members-Uyu, Mayto and Kanako. They spent the next year rebuilding. They have re-formed as a four-piece, with the already famous Junna on drums. Junna was previously one of the original members of Kakumei (later rebranded as Trident), and has a popular youtube channel where she posts hyperactive solo drum covers of metal songs. New vocalist Nagi has replaced Uyu. This is her first professional gig.
    Hagane 3.0:
    Guitars: Sakura
    Bass: Sayaka
    Drums: Junna
    Vocals: Nagi
Hagane are clearly playing in a similar space as groups like Mary’s Blood, Bridear, Nemophila and Lovebites-melodic, hard, heavy and technical. Early on, however, they developed their own signature sound, built around exotic scales, syncopated rhythms and the aforementioned high-octane shredding. Their songwriting is mature, far beyond what you should be able to expect from a bunch of people this young.
The new lineup have released an EP, “Life Goes On”, with five tracks including an instrumental. Despite not having the dual attack, it looks like they haven’t lost a step-Junna is insane as ever on drums, and Sakura is just on fire. Here are two tracks:
    “Tengagoken” (official video):
    th-cam.com/video/GhMamN_DBO4/w-d-xo.html
    and “Hero Time”, (official live):
    th-cam.com/video/-uIGtQNesx0/w-d-xo.html
Other bandmembers: Uyu formed her own band, which largely focuses on covers of other metal groups, especially Babymetal. She and Mayto also co-founded a band called Mana Diagram, with three other members. They have all worked on other projects. Kanako is also an elite musician and has been in a couple of bands since leaving Hagane.

FYI, Junna plays 2 kick pedals/beaters on a single bass drum. The left kick pedal is positioned just inside the hi-hat pedal with linkage rods to the left beater on the bass drum. The right kick pedal is mounted on the bass drum and operates the right beater directly. It's a great setup and she controls it with both power and precision.
