I love that you all made the addition thinking about multi-generational homes. We bought our forever home with the same in mind. My mother in law will never move in on her own accord but we have the room if needed, same with our kids when they become adults. I believe whole heartedly that family takes care of family and thankfully we have been blessed enough to be able to purchase a home that set us up for that if needed. Good luck with all the addition work, and yes I would hire a lawyer on the hallway issue. Merry Christmas to my favorite TH-camr. ❤️
Kim, you are the Mother across the room. So loving and giving to all of your family. When you talked about your children being able to move back home if needed I had tears come to my eyes. That was something my Mother always believed. God bless you and your family. Thanks for sharing your life with us.❤❤❤
But what if your child almost an adult 17 turned 18 busted a million huge holes in his bedroom walls along with a lot of other holes in the hallways and damaged brand new kitchen cabinet doors because he thought he was someone else, that is excuse I get. Then leaves the home two weeks after he turned 18 and says going out the door, "I don't have to listen to you and follow your rules anymore. " then he becomes homeless because his choices are off the wall. He is now 20, still messed up but getting help. Should I trust him? He even threatened to burn our home down. We adopted him at 7 and once 2020 hit his life got turned upside down. Our walls are still not fixed nor anything else. 😢
We let his older brother and his girlfriend move in with us twice and they were both respectful. First time was a bit harder because they were college students and they were used to living on their own and doing their things and it was 2021 so they had to move off campus but in 2023 they moved back because we offered while they waited for their new apartment to get done and it was actually wonderful to have them! ❤. I would do it again. Our daughter is 18 now and in her Senior year of hs. She doesn't trust her middle brother as well.
Omg i had tears in my eyes while you talked about that your kids should always feel welcome and you never know what could/will happen 🥹😍
Never know where life will bring you ❤🎉
Yes. I feel the same way. The world is so crazy and the prices are insane. I want my kids to always know they have a place with us and their families too if they need it. And multigenerational homes were a thing in America too for a long time but with certain changes in our culture over time it's less common. But the addition is beautiful!
I love your multi generational family planning. You're right and you never know what the future will hold. And it's so nice to feel welcome!
We had a problem with getting the same wood floor color as our dining room. We wanted to finally extend the floor, to match, throughout the great room... a rather large room, naturally. It's our own fault as we weren't able to do it right away, but waited until about a decade or longer later. We not be rich folk and we always had something more important come up. My style is simple, more rustic vibe. So, I found a flooring liquidator and after making a store visit we found a flooring that I hoped would match "pretty good"!? We took a sample home and I loved it. It wasn't the same. However, with a transition piece, it is perfect😊!
I'm going for more of a wood look with porcelain tile in the kitchen (looks like barn wood) and hallway. Off the hallway we have the laundry room and and bathroom, which I eclectically found some old fashioned looking blue faded star pattern that I feel in LOVE with. It's so me!!!
So, you don't have to matchy-match, using other materials can spice things up and be very eye-catching 😊❤.
I DO FEEL YOUR PAIN! IT'LL ALL BE ALRIGHT 😊❤
You guys are smart people so I'm sure you have contacted an attorney and have been working with a building inspector to make sure they do get done is done correctly. Fir the floor, you could put a transition of mosaic that coordinates with the current tile and then another flooring or the flooring you chose.
You have way more patience than I do.
Yes it’s been a nightmare. ❤
Hi Kim don't throw away the storks off the brrokal there's so much flavour than the heads i am from the uk sorry about the spelling luv to watch
Giiiiiiirl, you and Alex are handling the addition disaster with WAY more grace than i would. I cannot tell you how much of a Karen I would have been and would continue to be until things were exactly as they were promised. Sorry not sorry. Yes, mistakes happen, but giiiiiirl.
DUDE SAME!!! I’m Karen-ing for her thru the screen hahaha
@@oliviayoung5026 Me too! How have they not lost their minds?
Nerves of steal. I could never forgive this contractor.
Just listened to that Gabby Barrett song and was literally about to cry at that line “no matter what you’ll always be my baby”. All the feels.
I went and listened to the song……oooohhhhhh my. I had my daughter when I was 18. She’s 29 now. I literally felt like this song the entire time she was growing up. I didn’t have a second child until my first was nearly grown.
You are a blessing to watch every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
You’re a blessing to have as a friend 🎉❤
I feel so sorry for you. Praying for you
Why do you feel sorry for her
@@Carole1207Because of the building troubles I would assume 🤷♀️
@@slapstickdome9797 OK we'll go with that
Probably try doing some IKEA PAX wardrobe system that you can customize with drawers etc
That addition is surely taking FOREVER I guess you have to laugh otherwise you would need to cry. ❤❤
You are the most patient person I've ever seen! It ridiculous what that construction company has put you through!!
Dearest Kim,
Several years ago, I stumbled on your channel and have been watching ever since. My best friend's [since high school & I'm 45 now] name is Kim, and you two are oddly very, very similar, down to the long gorgeous locks. That's how I knew it was true love, lol. I'm also in Tampa, as well. Anyway, thank you for all you do; for some of us, you really are a best friend, and absolutely the lady across the room. ;) Thank you for sharing your life with us. As a WFH, SAHM, with anxiety, etc., having a "friend at home" means so much. Plus, love trying out many of your recipes with my youngest. :)
Oh, yeah, and be careful with that Travertine. It WILL stain, and it will chip if you drop something heavy on it. My cousin's was done probably around 10 years ago, and I'd never walk on it in high heels due to the damage that it has received. (Not that I'd walk in high heels anymore anyway, lol.) I think it has to be re-sealed every so many years. Just a thought.
I think you do a great job with your Christmas gifts for your children. You are the middle ground to me. You don’t go overboard and you don’t make them feel like they didn’t get enough. And buying for 5 kids is expensive! Plus buying for other family members and friends as well! I think you’re a great mom that any kid would love to have.
Yummy I love soups. Lol I always reference the Soup Naza on Seinfeld. No soup for you 😂😂😂
My heart goes out to you about the addition. I can’t believe these contractors can get away with not being done in a timely manner. It must be so frustrating to micro manage!! It looks incredible so far and that crab wallpaper and blue cabinets will look incredible together!
Would enjoy watching what u purchased for Christmas 🎄!! Hugs friend❤
It's time to talk to a lawyer re the architect friend. That error is their responsibility to fix - not yours. Sorry it's been so frustrating for you 🤗
We absolutely have been. 👏🏻
Time for a new lawyer!!!!!
Commenters are correct. Hire a litigator who fights insurance companies. Call Tragos for referral. He is in your backyard. Please use ikea for your closets. They will help design it and install it. Find a good human to install the wallpaper once the contractors are gone and you are living in the space. Hire a local cement guy for the patio. Get referrals from neighbors and bids. The chaos is shameful . ❤
Why did they leave the floor in the closet then build the wall on top of flooring instead of the cement? No wonder the tile guy broke a tool trying to remove it. 😳 I’m so sorry you’re going through this.
@@GardenRetrieverWas also gonna say Ikea! A billy bookcase and a couple of shelves in the one closet, boom done. And - i dont know about there - but i Denmark im pretty sure you can pay them to install it too! Two birds one Stone👌🏻🎉
The progress is GREAT... But like I said 8 months ago.. I would have fired this contractor and gotten someone who can get it done. Ok.. Back to the video. ❤❤❤❤ Merry Christmas 🎄🎅🎄
Not that simple. Lol if it was we would have done it a year and a half ago.
We are in the process of building an in-law wing onto my MIL’s house and then we are moving into the existing main house (me, hubby, 2 kids). She has 2 acres so more than enough room for all of us😊
I'm exactly the same with presents - I don't really care about getting any myself (not really used to getting any presents, and never anything thoughtful), but I'm always sooo excited for others to open theirs, because I put a lot of thought and effort into them 😃 I just like to make people happy, as much as my tiny budget allows 😃
I'm so sorry for all the trouble the addition has caused. The soups looked GREAT!
That is so sweet making the rooms large with the thought of there future families! I’m sure they will appreciate that as they get older ❤
Use what tile you have in the garage to finish the one hallway. Then use same tile but smaller on the long hallway.
Your beautiful kiddos hit the jackpot when it comes to parents ❤
If you do the built ins from ikea then you know that if in the future plans change the closet can be added and removed to accommodate. That’s what I love about ikea. Not to mention all the organization goodies ikea has and always comes up with. Hope that helps. 😊
The great thing is that you have so much video documentation of the whole addition situation. I will pray for a speedy and adequate resolution for you guys!
The addition is going to be amazing when complete but Holy Moly! My anxiety level was soaring as you went through all the issues you have encountered!
The soups look amazing! I’m def making both! And I love the new Gabby Barrett song, I’ve heard it several times and I tear up every time! Love it! Also listen to Dirt Cheap, great song!! 🤗
A solid beige match would be a little better with the diamond shape tile as the entry tile to the new addition. 👌 Beige is what I see in the video!!
The leaves of celery are my favorite part. And saaaammmeee as you with soup. I need to feel it in my soul and be stuffed
Enjoyed you Kim😊❤
Wow, Kim, I love you. You make motherhood more fun because I can feel it for real along with you, no faking!!! I came on here to say wow to the haters making rude comments, like geez… or even just obvious comments. Not cool, sorry you have to deal with that too and not just nightmare Reno problems! Kim is a real person people! Comments on the internet aren’t just going to a robot who doesn’t have feelings!
@thewads Hi Kim maybe for the linen closet you put shelves with a dresser (IKEA) below. This keeps the cost down for now and you can always change it later.
I really enjoy your videos. I wish I’d thought of second hand and thrift stores when my kids were younger but that was 40 years ago. Your videos do put so much happy in my day. Thank you. 😊❤
We had to Match our tile too because when we moved in there is carpet and the dining room what we did was call the manufacturer that our tile came from and they were able to find us some pallets we bought all they had and even sold some to the neighbor because they have the same
These soups are inspiring...i alos love a big soup, but i love your idea to overload on the ingredients...we usually get the last few bowls too thin.
Kim, I watch you every day! You are my person. I watch what pops up even if I’ve already seen it before. Hate you are going through all of this mess! A good idea would be where the floors come together make a mosaic of the old and new to transition on every place they come together. Hope that makes sense.
Doing any home remodeling is stressful no matter what I like how good every thing looks so far , for the closets maybe do the packs system from ikea I know a lot of people do that even in laundry rooms as well
I have 4 kids who are getting to be big kids. We give each 3 nice gifts but we have 2 sets of grandparents nearby and when you add it all up, they get a ton of stuff!
As they get older, we focus more on experiences to spend time together more than the stuff. But I remember when they were little and it was all about the stuff! Great memories! Enjoy each year!
Oh my god!!! I made the Bacon Bean soup and yummmy!!!!!! Thank you!
Good morning Kim, I would cut closet costs by doing shelves and add bins to hold party supplies etc.
God bless you for being ok with your children moving back in with you if needed, my son moved back with me and everyone gives me crap about it 😢your an amazing mom and are going to be an amazing grandmother 😊
Hi Kim, for the storage closets, don’t do drawers. Your doors aren’t the full width of the closet so the drawer width will be reduced and you’ll have wasted space on each side or worse, you won’t be able to open full width drawers. I guess you could put drawers on the sides but I don’t think you’d get them wide enough to be useful. I would just do nice shelves and you can always add to it in the future.
I would love to see what you got your self ❤❤❤❤❤❤ Love and prayers coming about your addition
I am so sorry about all of the delays. It will be nice when it is done. Sure is a lot of stress for both of you. Since it was taking so long, I thought that you were doing it yourselves with friends. That architect made mistakes I think so I am thinking that he should take responsibility for them. He is the professional whereas both of you had the ideas that he should have put into action guiding you with the rules he has to do it by. We laypeople don’t know what the building codes are and or the reasons for them. Best of luck Kim and Alex and it will be nice when it is done.
Thank you for sharing the updates. I love that you can laugh in spite of their goof ups. If you don't laugh you will cry, I get that. You always put family first and certainly don't deserve to be experiencing these delays.
The house looks beautiful! It's been such a long road for y'all, sending all the good vibes that it gets wrapped up soon. For the storage closets, I would recommend doing nothing, or the cheapest shelves possible...because it will all change once you've moved in to that area! Or at least in my experience it has. You actually use it for a while and then end up thinking, oh shoot, should've done this or that.... Move what you think should be in there in that closet, even if it's messy for 6 months, just live with that and then when you don't have a million other house decisions on your mind and you've lived with the space for a while, make the plans for those closets. Good luck!
You are definitely an inspiration Kim. I started watching you for freezer meals when you were pregnant with Meredith and you've grown so much in me, I truly love your content and family. Much love and blessings from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 thank you for being my online friend 🫂❤.
Listen, I love that you are doing this for your family. I love that you don't believe your kids need to move out the second they turn 18. I love the European idea of a multi-generational home. I am one of six kids and growing up my parents always made it clear we had a place to come back to. My father has since passed away, but my mother still makes it clear all her children are welcome back home. My sister got married and her and her husband lived in my mothers finished basement until they were able to find a house. I just got married in June and she once again offered for us to live with her until we were able to find a home in this market. We loved the idea so much that we decided to build a multi-generational home so she could live with us instead. I will never understand why Americans think independence comes when you move out, it can very much still come when living with loved ones.
I buy fresh carrots, Celery, Onions, and peppers. I chop them up and freeze enough for the month. It's such a time saver!
Kimberly Whisk is back with a Saturday field trip to the edition of the Whiskworth Homestead! 🎉🏡 And soup recipes? And Christmas🎄 gifts 🎁? Some cleaning 🧹🧼 too? 🎉 (and yes, that hallway is too narrow, pesky architects 😆)
You seem so relaxed handling this construction nightmare😉 but I loved your multigeneration planning❤ I love the soup recipes they could be good in Europe's weather now! And you know best how to please your kids for Christmas. Mee too, I prefer to give to my daughter, family and friends!🥰
You need to try better than bouillon, you add it to water and it makes stock instantly ✨💎
Yes, they even have an Italian one now!
Yes, they even have an Italian one now!
Yes, yes, and yes! Post it all!
Thanks for the update. I am so frustrated for you!! My husband is in the trades and i cant understand the ineptness, although i recall husband constantly griping about architect. Ugh. Praying for a rapid happy ending to the house saga. 🙏🏼
I feel the frustration in Kim’s voice , this is a lawyer situation! Good luck 💐
It’s been such a frustrating experience. I just want it to be over. I told Alex if I knew about this before moving in I’m not sure we would have moved in.
We kept getting told it would be a simple thing. Had the architect come out before we bought the house etc etc. 😩
It will be over soon.
Ah the gifts. Which means the wrap with me is fast approaching. Can't wait!
Thank you for sharing updates about the addition. I can’t imagine the frustration, I’m so sorry!! I always love watching your videos 😊 GREAT tip about the bin for each kids gifts!!
I'm so sorry about all the reno troubles. Our neighbors, who are building a house, have also had so much stress with things being built wrong and trying to get a hold of the contractor so it is not just you. I am very thankful my husband is skilled enough to do any renovation or remodeling projects.
That is great that you think of your kids so far in the future.
Kim, I LOVE your content & videos. I’ve been following your channel for maybe 4 years or more now? We just built our own home too & when I say we built it we literally BUILT it! I say this with all due respect & its merely a speculation but just a suggestion with the two tiles, can you add a transition piece between them and have them lay the new tile in a different direction? So that everything still flows and looks similar but doesn’t look funny with the two different colors side by side? I know you mentioned you’ll put a runner over it but you could totally make it look like it’s on purpose with a few added details! Such as the transition? 😅 I can’t wait to see the end result!!
We add broomstick noodles into our broccoli cheese soup and it helps stretch the soup even further. We’re a family of 7 too (18 months, 4, 11, 13, and 16) so I like to get at least 2-3 good meals out of a pot. To pack more nutrients in there I’ll take the broccoli stems and cook them in a saucepan with the chicken stock until super soft, puree it until smooth, and then add it into the soup.
I was in Lakeland when it was 60° a couple weeks ago, probably when you recorded this vlog. We were visiting my brother in law and his family. They were depressed that it was so chilly, I was excited because I live for cooler/fall weather. I live in North Texas and we have all 4 seasons. My husband wants to move to Tampa so badly, but I don't know if I could handle not having the changing seasons.
I'm sick with strep throat, and I thought okay at least I have your video to look forward to as I'm swallowing glass. Then I realized it was Friday 🤦♀️. But good news, still sick on Saturday so that scenario did in fact come true lol. There's so much sadness going on within my family right now but I'm so thankful for my son, who still lives at home because he wants to eat and have a roof over his head, who is taking a half day off work to come and decorate the house for me. You guy's are smart to think ahead with your kids always having a place to land. Christmas shopping, almost done but never really at the same time 😂😂❤❤.
The totes to sort through the gifts is a brilliant idea! We have four kiddos (16, 15, 13 & 3), we don't go minimalist nor over board either, they get about 4 gifts each and some of that could be clothes and then little stocking stuffers but nothing too fancy. We are getting an experience for one of ours this year that I am super excited about for him. Love watching little Wolfgang help you out...toddlers are so much fun.
Looking forward to your wrap with me to see all that you got the kiddos! I need Wolfgang age inspo! 😆 Always love hanging out, friend!
There could be easy solutions to your floor & door. Walking toward the addition, the load bearing wall is on the right. Is it load bearing on the left as well? Are you able to remove the trim and door frame on the left? Which would make the wall equal/seamless.
With your tile choice, different colour, you can get someone from Legarri to mix up some epoxy with some tint in it that would match your original tile once its painted over the grey tile you bought. The best thing is, its waterproof and tough once cured. Then you just paint clear epoxy over your original tile so they both have the same sheen and protection, making the whole floor match.
I wouldn’t do drawers in the hall closets because you will lose the space on both sides of them since they can’t be the whole width…you wouldn’t be able to open them.
Thanks for sharing your day. I loved watching Wolfgang help you. He's gotten so BIG!!!
Sipping coffee watching Kimberly whisk while my kids eat breakfast and get ready to see Santa ! Perfect way to start our Saturday !
Oooh sounds like a fun day!!
No one motivates me more, you lift my spirits! Instant happy in my day! Thank you so much for continuing to put out content for us!🤗
I'm totally with you Kim on having a home for your kids no matter how old they are. We currently have our youngest son and daughter in law both 24. And their 3 month old baby girl living with us. We are in the UK and the rental prices are ridiculous.
I have scaled down Christmas this year in every way as I'm currently waiting on spinal surgery. Hopefully next year we can celebrate like we are used to xx🎉
❤ how real & funny you are. The soup looks soooo good. Keep the videos coming.
Hi Kim. I made your bacon and bean soup today...YUM so good...thank you
Having a safe place for your kids to come back to is so important . I moved back home after my gap year to go to school and it was great. My husband lived at home until almost 25 and we were able to save enough to buy a house shortly after getting married.
Well… I saw this video and immediately made the broccoli cheddar soup for dinner and it was delicious! I made extra too, for leftovers.
Yay extension update🎉
Yes beautiful song ❤❤❤Growing up raising you 😊
I know it can be super frustrating to work with contractors, but overall the addition is coming along. Hopefully, all the kinks will be resolved soon. Love your tile / wall paper choices, Kim!
Instead of settling with the grey tile - choose a plain color to match the beige tile - the grey and beige are a huge difference and any rug will only mask it!
Have you thought about concrete flooring, painted to match your travertine? Many people do this and its not expensive.
You are truly a wonderful wonderful mom 🇬🇧🇺🇸🌸🌸
Love the intro!! Already have some happy in my day. ❤
We're building a house and we have had some issues too, no work has been done for over a month. I also just try not to think about it. 😩 I told someone yesterday I am dissociating until it's done. I just want to fast forward a year and it will be all done, and we'll be moved in, and celebrating our first Christmas there. 😬
Kim, I use that same recipe for broccoli cheese soup and it’s one of my favorites!! Thanks for the house update and I can’t wait to see the wallpaper 🩵
Hey kim, cook down the broccoli stems with the veggies, blitz it all up then add in the florets, milk, cream, cheese etc
Hey Kim, I totally feel you when you said every step of the remodel is going wrong 😑 I had the same at the remodel of my appartement in Belgium… Such a pain when everything going wrong grrr but finally get through 🎉🎉 good luck for you ❤
Looking forward to seeing what you bought yourself for Christmas, how fun. It was nice to see the update on your addition, sorry for all the obstacles along the way..... Love your gracious attitude! Keep your eyes on the price, good things come to those who wait.🙏🙏🙏♥ Thanks for another great video Kim!
HI Kim! What about looking on marketplace for some cute dressers for your closets instead of build in's. At least for a temporary solution. The addition is looking great! Love that vanity and the wallpaper!
Love Gabby Barrett and her husband❤ I have her new songs on repeat!
Thanks Kim, it's always a BLAST watching you!
Ikea pax closets (and a task rabbit to put it together) might be a life saver for some of the closets! We did our bedroom closets with them and love it!
Hi Kim, you can totally use the broccoli 🥦 stems in the soup. I do, tastes great. Just chop it small to cook.
Love your videos. 😊 Zoe
😩🥴 stressed & it's not even my house and I'm feeling it for u girl .....it's coming along tho😊...I wud do 3-4 shelves and 2 drawers in each closet.....the soups🤤😋
It may not work but worth a shot…in the area where the non-matching gray tile will be laid, try using a super warm lightbulb to trick the eye into thinking it’s a warmer color than it actually is.
You are a saint for the way you have made it through the construction ❤ yes I’d love to see your Christmas haul
Love your video!!! Also - your sweaters in this video were so cute 🥰
We have built 2 homes in my opinion in the storage closets just do shelves and use Baskets. Drawers narrow what you can do and take up room with all that comes with drawers. In closets have them do shelves and using baskets will gave you options.
