    Proud to be from portsmouth, honestly even high winds dont effect the journey so smooth onboard! I love going on the craft, the inner child loves when it starts up and swings!nPUP

    Sad, that only the Isle of Wight service still survives. Very neat experience. And I bet Hovertravel is a fun company to work for.

    I have been on two ‘special’ crossings. That thing can perform doughnuts etc. Even let all of the air out of the skirt to prove it won’t sink. Unfortunately my legs stopped me from climbing into the cockpit. But apart from that great fun.

    Nice presentation of the hovercraft, maybe a little too positive. It presents the technology as if it is state of the art competitive. It doesn't address the downsides. It doesn't explain why the Isle of Wright connection is the last of it's kind. It doesn't explain why competing technologies like hydrofoil and catamaran/trimaran ferries still operate at many more locations today.

    It's time all UK ferries became electric...especially the isle of wight ones...(I wonder if the hovercrafts could be converted) loads of things ARE being converted these days.

      I asked one of the pilots about electric. The firm that produces them is working on an electric prototype.

      @@davecooper3238 Fantastic...it should be even more feasible now with some new battery tech I have just been reading about that has gone into production. I worked a season on the fastcats...they definitely need converting, smelly noisy diesel things.

      @ Yep. Let’s hope they can make electric commercial viable.
      I have also been on the Falkirk wheel. At the time it opened Falkirk looked very second hand. The wheel created many more visitors than expected. They had started with one purpose built trip boat. We went on a hastily converted cargo narrowboat with canvas canopy and village hall type chairs. The original visitor centre was a sort of fancy shed. Much different now as is Falkirk that has its mo jo back.
      If you are just looking for QI rather than excitement. The whole Falkirk, Bo’ness, Stirling area is well worth a visit..

    Not true the UK has no money to run a donkey cart let alone a Hovercraft the Australians pay for it.

    • @davecooper3238
      @davecooper3238 วันที่ผ่านมา

      No they don’t. The passenger fare pays for it.

      @ People purchase stock to draw dividends. If the business doesn’t make a profit shares tank and people would not buy them.
