Then works its way into a Deep regret and sadness punctuated by fleeting and short periods of false hope and happiness, only to return to the deep melancholy and gut wrenching sorrow....rinse and repeat....Powerful. Tearful. Deeply Devastating. C'est melancholie. C'est profondement triste.
How fortunate he was to live in such time. I am infatuated with this era of France's monarchy, regency, music & fashion right up until the very unfortunate year of 1793. To be this talented & to also be the musical prodigy & virtuoso of the super talented J. B. Lully! France has some of the best music of the Baroque era!
The eighth movement, in my imagination is more like a “ a la Françoise” ( in a French manner) for me. Its melancholic. Speaking of melancholy, it’s sounds like Plainte for me. ( plainte = lament. Often used in the French Ouverture suites )
