How has this been out for 8 years and I’ve never seen this? Thanks so much for posting. I loved early Squeeze. I think East Side Story is the most under-rated album or that era. I don’t understand why Squeeze never got the recognition they deserved. On the other hand, so many of the bands that got all the glory have virtually vanished. Just 2 days ago, May 21, 2023 Squeeze played the “Cruel World Festival” in California. Still going 41 years after this concert was filmed.

I heard Glen say once he had spent “an entire afternoon” working up that solo, which was interesting. He also said he almost never changes a note of his solos because when he does, they never sound good (in his opinion). An interesting take in a world where so many musicians pray to the God of improvising … pray to it too much, in my opinion.

The "mix" the engineer produced is fantastic...first time I've really heard the voices of Glenn and Chris distinctly. Brilliant set-list. While band is still utterly amazing, they were never the same after Gilson left. Listen to the powerful, energetic drumming. Every pop group wished they had him. Finally, Glenn is so criminally under-appreciated as a guitar-player. Wonderful. Best tune-smiths since Lennon/Macca, at the top of their game.

Never really listened to Squeeze back in the 80s, other than the stuff that was on the radio - Cool For Cats, Up The Junction, etc. Stumbled across this vid as looking for something to watch prior to going to see them supporting Madness at a gig later this year. Just gotta say - wow, I missed out in the 80s. This is just awesome!

This is fantastic Steve! I just got the latest Squeeze album Cradle To The Grave, which is outstanding with all the trademark Squeeze qualities. So in exploring Squeeze videos it is so great to see this show from my college years, when I was attending Cal St. Northridge as a music major. I did not know of Squeeze then unfortunately, since I was heavy into a KMET- KLOS mindset of album rock. But I definitely recall the heyday of the Country Club as one of the best small concert venues. Thank you for this great concert!

If you’ve ever posted to TH-cam, you’ll know that the quality of the video is compressed. This was recorded by me on a state of the art 5 head VCR at the 2 hour mode. It’s a pristine first generation recording.

That's so COOL, Vann Frazier! Wish I would had known about them. Even if I did, I was 7 months preggers, with my hubby and my first child, so more than likely, I would not had been in attendance. I did eventually see them decades later at the Rialto theater, Tucson Az, back in 2008 so I can die happy lol, but even before that, I'm going to be at their Scotsdale, Az concert later on this month.

Thank you so much for this.
As someone so familiar with the track lists and order of Argy Bargy and East Side Story that I automatically start humming the next tune whenever one ends, I love that this setlist includes what otherwise can only be considered "album tracks." Tunes like "There At the Top," "Vicky Verky," and "Farfisa Beat" were only played because their catalogue of tunes was still thin, although to my ears they're right up there with everything else on those slabs of vinyl.
