Pro tip: Their dress sneaker line is also really cool. So cool, in fact, that they’re looking into making them 360 degree goodyear welted by 2020! Now THAT could be a great, new avenue for future business.

I go to the Allen Edmonds in Salt Lake City, Utah and love to go there. They are always spot on in guidance and there customer service is superb. I recently purchased of their shell cordovan Patriot loafers, and I love them. The people you talked to today were equally good as those in SLC, and the regional manager seemed extremely knowledgeable as well. I also own several pairs of Alden and I just purchased a pair of Carmina split toe derby’s, after the Trenton & Heath review, but have yet to receive them. AE shoes are solid and their Liberty series looks fantastic. I didn’t know about that series until right now, but I will be checking them out very soon. Now I’m waiting for the SLC store to have their shell cordovan trunk show to buy my third pair of AE shell cordovan shoes. Overall, I probably have ten pair of AE’s, and it is supremely important to me that they are made in America and I’ll pair more because of that. Keep up the great work with AE, and of course through the Trenton & Heath channel.

My first exposure to high quality footwear was actually when I started with forestry. Work boots of all things! I purchased a pair of Nicks and then a pair of JKs. Last year I got into a pair of TAFT Rome boots and a pair of Thursday boots. Yesterday, based off y’all’s recommendations, I bought my first pair of Allen Edmonds. I’m a blue collar guy, but I do have an appreciation for a sustainable and well made product. True craftsmanship has lost its luster over the years, but I think it is making a turn around!

Beautiful video guys. So disappointing that my first pair of AE was a fiasco! I'm currently in the process of trying to get them exchanged. I ordered Surrey Chukkas during black Friday. Was very excited when they arrived but upon close inspection there were too many defects to keep them! Leather looks premium but color was faded, many scuff marks, loose stitchings... Just not what I expected for the price point. Hope they didn't send me a factory second because I definitely paid top dollar. Will update when the replacement get to the store.
    *UPDATE*
So I they sent the replacement to the store. Unfortunately although I requested a half a size down they missed that. Off they went back. A week later the second replacement pair came in and they were spot on! To be fair besides the stitch not being consistent on the original pair I'm realizing what I thought to be defect was actually not. So now I got the right size and I am quite happy with them. Next time I'll just go to the actual store here in Dallas, they have nice ppl working there and you can actually inspect the product you're buying!
Their anniversary is in 4 months, hopefully I'll be able to purchase another pair! I even recommended my friend who in turn was the luckiest because he bought from offer-up brand new park avenues for $100!!! They were size 12...I was livid lol

I watched reviews, read up on the Allen Edmonds manufacturing methods and history, it all sounded great. So I bought a pair of Chukka Boots, great product, great purchasing experience overall, I decided to buy more shoes. Bought a pair of Dalton Wingtip Dress Boots. I received 2 different color boots, also one of the boots seemed to be a different vintage or much older and had been on display for some time. Multiple price tickers attached and removed, physical dimensions were different, a different cut of the same style. I called customer service, they apologized and said they would send out another pair, free shipping. Got the next pair, shoes are with out a doubt reject, factory second shoes. I wear a size 9.5, the shoes I received are a size 8 or possible even smaller, but marked as a 9.5 D The shoes were also misshapen. The left looked like a right, the toe was curved outward. The worst quality I've seen from any shoe company, shameful quality.

I went into my local AE’s and went only expecting to buy 1 maybe two pair of shoes. I would up walking out, after ordering 4 pair of shoes: 2 Chelsea boots(blk, brn) 2 single monk straps; also blk, brn. It took about 3 weeks for them to come in, as they didn’t have my size in stock. When they arrived, 3 of the 4 had different defects to them. I was pretty disappointed, having heard nothing but good things about AE. They offered to reorder the three pair and took another 3 weeks or so. When I went in to try the new pairs, again...they all had “issues” with them. I wound up returning all 4 pairs cause I just didn’t trust the quality. I’ve since ordered my boots from Thursday boots and am very happy with them. I ordered my 2 pair of monks from Beckett Siminon. Those should arrive in November. I’m looking forward to those.

I wear Allen Edmonds because the only shoe that comes close to fitting my foot is the 65 last in 13 EEE. Even with all the EEE widths, nothing else even AE offers fits me without pain (the key is the width in the arch) They seem to get a lot of hate these days, and maybe they should because they market themselves as the best and even just limiting it to direct competitors Alden is WAY better (but sadly does not make a shoe that fits me), but on sale prices AE is hard to beat if you also factor in the fact that it is being made in a country with labor and environmental laws.
What's interesting to me, at the price point, is AE is sourcing from Horween. I've actually ordered a pair of bespoke shoes from a maker in Vienna, and he has also settled on getting his leather from Horween. I was surprised to see this, but he said other than two french tanneries, nobody else has been able to meet Horween's consistent quality as a combined consideration (i.e. he's had other suppliers meet their quality, but then the next time they didn't deliver the same quality).

Love your video! But I have to say that Allen Edmonds with their current price and quality becomes much less appealing. A pair of Dalton boots here in Canada costs more than CAD700. At this price point, you can get Alden Indy boots, Tricker's Stow boots, most of the Carmina calf leather boots, which all have better design and better quality. At this price range, you can even start to look at Crockett&Jones and Vass, which are more than a few steps above what Allen Edmonds can offer. Allen Edmonds was a great buy when it was a bit more than CAD400 three year ago. I think they are a bit over confident as a result of the mass advertisements they did online over the recent years. I would not recommend Allen Edmonds to anyone today. Much like Church's, Allen Edmonds shoes are still well made shoes, just the price does not justify the product.

Here's just one point you failed to address. Star appeal. Allen Edmonds is worn by more celebrities, more Wall Street execs, more Presidents and upper level politicians than all of those lesser known brands you mentioned combined. If you want dine with the classes, you have to be capable of paying the bill. Next time you watch a well dressed male actor in your favorite TV show, chances are they are wearing Allen Edmonds.

@@yueminwang3551 Logan Wang I did not mean to offend you but Allen Edmonds has no interest to selling to the 5 billion people on earth, or 1 billion, or 10 million. You have to consider their marketing demographic. They are only interested in selling to men with a high disposable income where a product purchase of a suit, or sunglasses or shoes that cost $300, $400, $500 or $600 is of no consequence. They are not trying to sell shoes to everybody. They are targeting approximately 15-20% of the dress shoe market. So they don't care if you can find cheaper shoes in Texas, or Canada or England. As a matter of fact, the incentive for them is to keep their prices high enough so that the purchase is considered a LUXURY item. That is to say, exclusive to a few people. All of the major luxury brands like Chanel, Rolex, Fendi, Christian Dior, Giorgio Armani, Rolls Royce, Bruno Magli, Ralph Lauren, etc. intentionally price their products in the same way--high enough so that only a select few can afford them. So lowering their prices would only harm their brand.
And by the way, quality is a highly subjective term. What may be quality to you, may seem like an inferior product to others. Just sayin.

@@PaulieVavoom I would not consider them to be a luxury brand. If your definition for luxury is simply raise the price of a 300 dollar shoe to 700, then I can't really argue with you. I have shoes that costs twice even three times as AE shoes, and the hull marks on those shoes just do not show on a pair of Allen Edmonds. Quality is not all subjective. If you offer a hidden channel like Carmina, then it will take more time and more effort resulting in a more elegant looking shoe.
My point being people who can afford expensive things will not in a long way consider AE. And people who just want quality shoes do have way better options.

    • @PaulieVavoom
      @PaulieVavoom 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@yueminwang3551 Well, the rest of the world considers Allen Edmonds to be luxury brand shoes. Allen Edmonds are regularly sold in high-end, luxury department stores like Nieman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales, and...wait for it...Rego Bespoke (Toronto). Besides that, they are regularly featured and RECOMMENDED in the world's largest mens fashion magazines and major publications like GQ, Esquire, Wall Street Journal--which specifically referred to Allen Edmonds as a "Luxury brand."
Also, whether you choose to buy Allen Edmonds and consider them quality or not, consider them expensive or overpriced is your OPINION. Good for you! Whoo hoo! But as I have demonstrated, most disagree with you. I've actually seen the way that Allen Edmonds are made, and that's why Trenton & Heath, the maker's of this video so highly recommend them. Because they are some of the finest quality dress shoes made in the world! So there's your opinion, and tens of thousands of customers and fashion experts and shoe makers who disagree with you on what high quality is, and what over-priced is, LOL!

I think I learned why shoes never seem to fit my foot correctly. I measure a size 12, but I have a wide foot and pretty squared off toes, so I can’t get my foot in most 12s because my pinky toe gets mashed in against the next one and the crease when I walk seems to naturally form in a very uncomfortable part of my foot. So I usually get 13s, but they have their own issues too, toe of the shoes stick out further and always get caught on stairs nosings or the ground, but at least all my toes fit.

A little late, but I have an identical issue. Go with 12 in the E width. That little extra width helps tremendously with the fit. I fit in a 12 D, so maybe the EE will help you.

Also a little late, but look for a Munson or Tru Balance last. AE are usually brutal for this foot shape.

I ordered my first AE shoe, Voyager walking shoe. I have arthritis in my feet and I am looking for comfort. Ordered a factory second and with the current discount was less than SAS shoe including tax. Should be here next week. I wish I understood shoes better when I was in my 30's but now I am 70 and really do not need a quality work shoe. I will be in Nashville this June and if I like the shoe I just ordered I will pay the AE location a visit.

Yes, Allen Edmonds are a grown man’s shoe brand. Good history, great value. To those that criticize quality control, even my Crocket&Jones/George Cleverly’s have little things that aren’t perfect. These things are sewn by humans, not robots so I embrace it.

Do you recommend doing the maximum number of recrafts through allen edmonds before having your shoes recrafted by a trusted cobbler? I remember one of your other videos saying that AE replaces the welt every recraft, so I am wondering which option is better for the life of the shoe.

I've heard rumblings on the internet forums about what AE has been doing lately. I've got 4 pairs of AE shoes (last purchased 5 years ago) and they have all been great with no issues. I also heard that they tried experimenting with corrected grain leather (a no-no in my book) and they quit doing it after receiving some backlash. Their shoebank is the best avenue for purchasing AE goods.

FIrst time commenter and new to the channel; long time shoe wearer... Most of the dress shoes y'all talk about are lace up but even AE's website has loafers under the "dress" shoes. Do you see those shoes in for repair as often as lace up? Does your clientele wear loafers? For me, loafers are easier to travel in and easier to dress down. Thanks.

I used to have 4 pairs of AE's (Worthington, Conway, Clifton, and Kensington), but I'm down to one now. I haven't bought a pair in the last decade because their distribution in Canada is limited to Nordstroms (which shamefully sells the product through the local Nordstrom Rack at a discount, not a good branding strategy) and one independent specialty men's retailer store. That's it. I can't see how having such a limited distribution brick and mortar channel helps; I also can't see AE surviving with their own branded stores in metro markets here of less than 2 million.
Perhaps a distribution deal with someone like Harry Rosen (which used to carry the brand) or Simons, or perhaps a traveling trunk salesman who visits Nordstrom stores across the country? I'd like AE to succeed, but it won't be with its current strategy here.
