Perfect! This was exactly what I needed - straight to the point and a great tip about how to check the seal too, all set up to bottle my home brew cider, struggling to find enough good bottles and couldn't work out how to use the capper hammer for the dozen or so bottles that need capping in this way - Thank you
Cool video, I like your humour. Reading online, so many people are irrationally fearful of the hammer capper, but it's really not that difficult. You'll probably be bound to break a bottle or two along the way, but starting light and with practice you get a feel for it. I used to use a rubber mallet and also lay a towel on the surface for extra shock absorption (as well as to soak up beer should anything go wrong). Happy capping!
Just saved me some cash ;) just bought my brother a beer making kit for Christmas as a surprise to see if he fancied making his own brew but stupidly forgot he'll need to bottle and cap it once it was made! Bottles and capper we're going to cost as much as the damn kit which would have been a waste of money if he didn't fancy the hobby after all, but now I can get him the knock on capper and a little bag of caps off ebay, much kinder to my bank balance. Thanks for putting up this useful (and adorable :3) video!
Thank you! I have been searching someone doing a demo with that, my kit came with one and no one showed how to use it, even the brewer that sent me the kit used a different type of bottler.
@gearsofwarcraft1 Cheers and beers gear, not sure of the exact make but got from the Home Brew Shop down near Farnborough. Cheap and cheerful, and needs a technique but is so useful for those bottles that don't seem to want to be capped.
@@CodePython3 - Just do a search for Bottle Capper or Hand Bottle Capper and you will find easily, might have to go down through the Emily style ones but there are definitely there. I found one on the first page for under £10.
@Unclejona tonight I did some banging on one of those thin brown beer bottles and it seemed relatively strong. I had a friend who could hit the top of one of those and make the bottom pop off. I've never been able to do it.
Thank you for this, I knew there were cheaper easier ways to cap things. However instead of giving mine the beans, I'll give it the potatoes! LOL! I want to recolor a lava lamp which has a almost normal neck, this will put the shove to that! HAPPY 2016!
Hi Jona. I'm just wondering if you are aware that Camden Brewery are looking for tour guides ? Someone mentioned it to me the other day and I thought it might suit you ? Cheers buddy.
You got the wrong bellhousing when you ordered it about housing where you put your cap screws off there's a European version for your size caps you just need to get the right bellhousing for your rejoins products
@@Unclejona the bellhousing is depart on the underside of the capper where'd you put the cap in. There are two different ones you should be able to unscrew that one off and screw on the one for the EU caps
Bought my bench capper from whytes homebrew very sturdy and well made caps bottles perfectly in seconds all sizes of bottle no probs for under 30 quid .... Bargain

You're not wrong, I totally support the bench capper but having this as a backup is fantastic

I'm curious if those very thin, and cheap brown beer could handle that type of capper.
I'm just bottling my first ever brew and my capper worked fine on hobgoblin bottles?
Is it a bench capper?
"Give it the beans" 😂
is there much danger of breaking the bottle? im using a heavy rubber mallet and hand capper
I've never had a bottle blow but my capper has taken some damage now needs replacing
Where can i buy this?
I should say support your local homebrew shop but Amazon or eBay will do
@@Unclejona what's the name of the product or can you share the link

Good tip Bopper, I'll try that one
Hi I have successfully capped one of these bottles tonight with my wilcos version of the Emily capper seemed to bite just fine
+fat baz - I'd love to see a video of that
I killed two of these bottles with the Wilko capper; it does grip I think the depth of the bulge caused it to compress the neck and blow it out.
Bench cappers are fantastic but are expensive in comparison to old school tech
Does this cause the bottle to foam? Does this foam matter?
Hi Henri, this is before 'bottle conditioning' so should not cause any major foam.
No worries buddy, like everything there are always different ways to get the job done
Near Hampton Court (so not too far away)
I know where your coming from mate but would most be without my bench capper after already breaking two of the twin lever ones
Cheers
Can you put these caps on screw top type bottles using the Emily bottle capper? I take it they're the same?
You can recap screw top bottles and I have done this in the past, but they are not exactly the same
OK, Thank for the reply.

Might have a look at that buddy :)
Good luck, there seem to be quite a few vacancies there but this one just might suit you 😉
A good bit off whiskey helps with the pain of glass cuts

Ok I'll post. It some how
You know what i use a 27mm socket it do's the job just as good :)
Attach the capper piece to a bench press and push it down.
Fuck that. Just Flip the metal plates on the red capper to 29
I've not broken one yet, and I use a normal hammer

ur near me i am in camberley
@backyardsounds
Only one way to find out :)
I think most bottles would handle the abuse
That's my kinda brewing, brute force and ignorance
Good as a backup plan, if in doubt, hit it with a hammer
OMG!
@365darren
Maybe I just like hitting things with a hammer :)
