Reading Debt the first 5000 Years would be a good supplement to this course.

Obsidian fractures with very sharp edges. So it was used as knives and even scalpels and that made it a high valuable tool for exchange.

Amazing lecture. I was curious if there ever was a lecture on the philosophy of the cynics. And if not, will there be one?

Wes, are you familiar with post Keynesian economics and the MMT crowd? They really try to elucidate how modern (completely fiat) money works. Current mainstream econ still bashes on them, but you'll get it right away.

@@Tomas-ml9nv You do know it's a complete, consistent and descriptive framework for macro analysis, not a "recommendation" to "brrr", yes?

Although it is true that money is naught but some sort of social "agreement", you oversimplified the issues. Fiat money has a lot of problems, it's very easy to inflate for example, and that's only one.

How much money do you think you could get for a truckload of hammers? I suppose it depends on how big a truck you can afford.

I heard before, about how the Templar’s, having basically- dotted along the entire routes of pilgrimage / throughout Europe.. when priests / etc. - church affiliates.. you could essentially- store ur gold at any one of them. And b issued a paper certificate(s) , stating your worth/of deposit, which could b used as current, at any of Templar est. along the routes, for services and goods, etc.. this was enacted to remove the threats of roadway robberies, -& minimizes heft / and weight of carrying throughout - the weighty precious metals...
Eventually evolving into wider and wider usage and acceptance...
promissory notes. essentially.. and backed by the might perceived @that time (especially) - of the Christian Church @Large

Glad to see you know more about American culture than you do about lthe history of Sanskrit. I suggest you delete it. Those of us who are actually serious scholars are laughing at you.

And those of us who actually know nothing about it and show interest usually take the knowledge available and benefit from it. Yours is a strange form of egocentrism for one who claims to possess superior knowledge.
