Today is Monday April, 15 and I want to share something with you. Last week my mother in law passed away and in the meeting with the family I volunteered to make the sympathy flowers. Although I craft before I’ve never done a funeral flowers before it was a project like no other. I did look at TH-cam channels and I went through many but, I went back to yours 2am 3am and so on. When I was ready I went to Trader Joe’s and purchased the roses, greens, baby breaths, and many others . I was so inspired by your work it took you less than 10 min on channel it took me 5 hours!!!!!! Because I did the spray flowers, the crown, and extra flowers I managed to make my own touch along the way. Next day we put everything in place in the funeral home I fixed the flowers sprayed with crown and glory fix the ribbons and so on from a distance it look like a pro did it total cost about $140 I appraised my work about $600 or more. The guests was wowed !!!! And my husband cried. I’m telling you this because you were the one that I learned from and because of your channel and how you teach us I was able to create something so personal! From the bottom of mine and my husbands heart thank you so much for being my personal teacher. 😥
Marilyn Cruz thank you so much! I am glad to off helped - and glad you were able to create something personal for someone close to you. It is very special to make a design yourself, especially for an occasion in front of others. I think you were brave to do this - and well done to you. I think for you and your husband and for your mother in law, the fact you made this makes it much more special. Sending you our condolences and love 💐
Flower Joos thank you means a lot . I will continue to support you my next project is Mother’s Day I am learning about roses in a box . Vases are so everyday.
Hi John update on my Mother’s Day boxes. I want to thank you for creating this tutorial that I learned how to do. I’m a street vendor and for Mother’s Day I wanted to be extra creative so I chose Roses in a box instead of vases. When I took out the boxes outside and placed on my table people were walking by and admired my work I got a lot of “wows” some even suggested “ to open up a business “ that’s how beautiful they came out. I also had preserved roses in a box that I purchased on line . Of course I had other vendors selling the typical roses on the stem but no one I mean no one had my creation! I have videos I would love to show you some if learned so much from you even how to decorate the box! I must ask you though from doing sympathy spring,to roses in a box my creation is very beautiful of course I add my own touch, how do I go about taking it further? You have been my online teacher . Before leading up to Mother’s Day I was constantly watching your examples. Thank you John so much I need to add that I had the best table along with baskets and other crafts that I did but the Roses in the box was the center of attention.
Marilyn Cruz wow - that is such great feedback! The thing is this style of design is actually quite simple - but you are right. People love it! That is a good suggestion to use the freezedried roses for an everlasting version! Where are you based? It is amazing the regional differences for florists and for customer preferences. Keep watching and keep learning - you can always learn something new - from new products, other people - even fashion and interior design. 😀
How amazingly simple and effective. Having watched several of your videos now and seeing how short you can cut the stems I will have more confidence to do so too! Thank you for sharing :D
Julie Speer you are right - be confident, and enjoy the process of creating. In some ways that is more than the end result. Don't aim to make one perfect arrangement - make 100 and learn and enjoy.
Wow . Beautiful and really great tutorial. If I want make a gold roses. What spray brand do you recommend me. Please make a tutorial with gold roses. Thanks in advance for you help
kerlly montes hello - there is a range of floral spray paints and these include antique and brilliant gold, from Oasis. You could trial this with a rose and see how it works. It depends on the purpose, for events then painting is fine as it will only be needed for a short time. Painting will affect the life of the flower
kerlly montes we are based in the U.K. so this is available in florist wholesalers and through a florists. You might find it online or maybe in a hobby store, but I would try and get the oasis one as this is good on fresh material - other spray paints may not b3 kind to fresh flowers 🌹
Amaziiinngg!!! If I may ask, how long can the flower last if I closed the lid, wrapped the box and deliver to theirs houses. Will it still alive after they received it?
Zhost Fran that really depends on the type of rose, the ambient temperature, the length of time in delivery. I would say you wouldn’t want the lid closed more than 24 hours.
I think if you plan to have the box closed, say for delivery, then firstly make sure that the tops of the roses sit below the lid so they are not crushed. For this the flowers would be fine - the box is essentially cardboard so would be able to breathe a little as not a perfect seal. The recipient would then leave the box open to enjoy the roses! Thank you for your comment and question!
jose de haro hello ! This was just a gift box I found at work at the bin - it was so nice I thought I would re-purpose it for flowers. First I just lined it with cellophane and then added wet floral foam low down in the box as the base. So you can buy this specifically but you could£ source your own box and then copy this design.
First submurge roses in water for about half hour cut stems side ways ,after the roses are in the box before closing spray crown and glory roses will last about 1 month.
lovely arrangements! how do you suggest shipping if i don't have a lid or if a do an arrangement that sticks /hangs out over the side like with orchids and fluffy hydrangea and such. want to know how to pack for shipping to someone. so it won't get messed up? tfs!
#Luxury State Of Mind this is more tricky. You would need to have a sturdy outer box, and place your arrangement low into it the pack the sides to hold it in place. To stop it moving up and down the four garden canes inserted into the arrangement that come up to the roof of the outer box - so essentially pinning the arrangement to the bottom. This would work for any arrangement sticking out above the top of the inner box or container. Hope that helps. The recipient would open the box and just remove the canes !
Angelcake if they do the flowers will last longer. It depends as well on the situation - more often in a warm room, could water less in a cooler room. I would be careful not to let water sit on the roses themselves but aim it below the heads onto the foam.
Angelcake - yes they still have the wet foam below, so if properly soaked, and water up to the highest point of the plastic liner, and the stems cut so they go down to the bottom of the foam in the container, then they will last as long as they can without extra watering - which should be as long as they will have a flower life. Sorry, that sounded a bit long winded, but the more elements considered then the better the result. 😀
Kurety Soft yes - this floral foam can be dropped into water and it soaks it up. Don't push the block under the surface as that creates an air pocket inside, but just let it soak water in and it will drop to water level. There are other foams you can get which are dry, but for fresh material you need the 'wet' type. You buy it dry and then soak before use. The most well known type is 'Oasis '.
Hello Flower Joos, I am planning a 99 roses in box arrangement for my girlfriend, but I find it putting a water soaked foam into the box will cause it become super heavy, is there any way to reduce the weight? I am thinking to use dry foam but it will make the fresh roses wilt quickly.
Hello and thank you for the question. It would depend on your box - I think a low shallow box would be ideal and you could use the foam sheets that are available for funeral work - so they have a wet foam top set on a light and sturdy dry foam base. Line your box with some cellophane or plastic, then drop in the sheet cut to the right size, with the foam wet. I would suggest that you keep the stems of the roses short so that it remains in the wet foam and doesn't go down into the dry below.Finding the right box will be the solution, but definitely easier to go shallow!
That is difficult to say as everyone prices things differently - and the roses can really vary in price depending on the season. But I would suggest a range of £70 - £100 for this .So it’s a luxury gift 🎁 😀🙋🏼♂️
Eilena Mercier-Ehmann hello - the box was about 10/12 inches by 8 inches wide. This was a box I found that was packaging from something else - so not purchased but recycled!
Maryam Khan this is floral foam . You can get wet foam - add water and it is wet for fresh material, or dry foam which is suitable for dried and silk flowers. You should be able to order online perhaps, or you will be able to buy in a Florists’s or a floral wholesaler.
So very amazing, and yes what a great surprise for someone.
Lovely idea! Almost like a box of pastel coated chocolates. Makes a nice presentation! Good reuse of something that might end up in the bin otherwise!

Gorgeous!! Thanks for uploading :) ~ new suscriber alert!!!
Looney Tunes thanks for commenting and welcome aboard!
Finish of with crown and glory it’s a safe wax spray the roses will last longer
Marilyn Cruz good suggestion 😀
Amaziiinngg!!! If I may ask, how long can the flower last if I closed the lid, wrapped the box and deliver to theirs houses. Will it still alive after they received it?
Zhost Fran yes they would be fine - as long as the lid is removed after they are delivered they would be ok.
Flower Joos ohh I see, so how long does the roses survived with the lid's closed?
Zhost Fran that really depends on the type of rose, the ambient temperature, the length of time in delivery. I would say you wouldn’t want the lid closed more than 24 hours.
Flower Joos okayy.. thank you so much for the tips
Hi. Thank you. Can i reuse the foam? should i soak it in warm water again? thank you
The idea is very simple and beautiful. However, my concern is, if we close the box then will the flowers go die without oxygen?
I think if you plan to have the box closed, say for delivery, then firstly make sure that the tops of the roses sit below the lid so they are not crushed. For this the flowers would be fine - the box is essentially cardboard so would be able to breathe a little as not a perfect seal. The recipient would then leave the box open to enjoy the roses! Thank you for your comment and question!
Should you use this floral foam with real preserved roses?
Skylar Clay with preserved roses you can use the sec foam - it is firmer and totally dry, so would not suffer from any moisture. 😀🙋🏼♂️
That's awesome! A question what is the base made of? It's soaked right? And where can I get one?
jose de haro hello ! This was just a gift box I found at work at the bin - it was so nice I thought I would re-purpose it for flowers. First I just lined it with cellophane and then added wet floral foam low down in the box as the base. So you can buy this specifically but you could£ source your own box and then copy this design.
I loved. One question how long do the beautiful flowers last?
Ktyz Ktyz thank you for the comment. It would depend on the rose used and the conditions they are kept in. I would say 5 - 12 days would be normal.
First submurge roses in water for about half hour cut stems side ways ,after the roses are in the box before closing spray crown and glory roses will last about 1 month.

How did you make that beautiful bow?
smh we have a video that shows you how! Just have a look through our videos !
Wow such a nice idea :) i have a question, if we give the flowers to someone, would they need to continue watering them or not?
Angelcake if they do the flowers will last longer. It depends as well on the situation - more often in a warm room, could water less in a cooler room. I would be careful not to let water sit on the roses themselves but aim it below the heads onto the foam.
Flower Joos okay, that makes sense but if the person does not water them, will they still last?

Sorry, that sounded a bit long winded, but the more elements considered then the better the result. 😀
Flower Joos thank you. That helps ☺
Maybe half flowers and half chocolate?
Do you put water in the green foam blocks? What is that?
Kurety Soft yes - this floral foam can be dropped into water and it soaks it up. Don't push the block under the surface as that creates an air pocket inside, but just let it soak water in and it will drop to water level. What size is the box you used? Also, where did you purchase it?
Eilena Mercier-Ehmann hello - the box was about 10/12 inches by 8 inches wide. This was a box I found that was packaging from something else - so not purchased but recycled!
Where to get that foam???
Maryam Khan this is floral foam . You can get wet foam - add water and it is wet for fresh material, or dry foam which is suitable for dried and silk flowers. You should be able to order online perhaps, or you will be able to buy in a Florists’s or a floral wholesaler.
What size is the box?
Is the foam flower foam?
Mari Reyes I don’t have the exact size but the box is approx 25 cm wide x 15 cm
deep x 12 cm tall. Yes, the foam is the normal wet use floral foam 😀
Can you use fake roses with dry foam?
Vernie Ren you could do that - good quality artificial flowers are excellent now.
Flower Joos thanks
