I just signed up for the Sustainer membership and the stated deduction amount is shown as $256. (09 June - still have not received the unit. Emailed support and they said they "..hope to have them in a few weeks...")
The $1 was the stated value in the email confirming my membership. Like all the other replies, when I received my Inseego "Jetpack" the invoice/letter stated the tax deductible value of the membership contribution was/is $256. Perhaps Calyx was awaiting some guidance from IRS or tax counsel...or perhaps just a glitch in their receipt system.
@@tdxownyou I've had mine about two months now. Overall I've been very satisfied. It has worked fantastically while on road trips across IA, MO, IL, KY, and TN, and we've had great 5G speed. Outside of times on the highway between coverage areas, the one area in which there was just very poor T-Mobile 5G coverage was in and around the Gatlinburg / Pigeon Forge areas in TN. And even the 4G / LTE coverage there was not good. I could use my Verizon cell service on LTE and had much better speeds.

Do you know if Sprint restricts access to VPN on this Caktx plan as Visible does on their plan? One of the companies I work for requires me to access programs on their server--Visible will not allow me to connect to the server (VPN).
not only does calyx allow vpn access, but the institute offers their own decentralized vpn for members and nonmembers alike. it's an internet privacy nonprofit: they love that sort of stuff

Thanks for the update! I became a Calyx Institute member last week missing the opportunity to get the 5G device and got the Linkzone 2 instead. I was debating whether to see if I could send them more money to upgrade to the new 5G unit but my research tells me that it doesn’t have antenna ports either so I think I’ll wait on it for now.

I have a pep link 42G antenna on my motorhome roof, the m2000 doesn’t have antenna ports. Do you know of a way, likely passive, to help the m2000 take advantage of the external antenna?
The 42G is designed for use with cellular embedded routers, particularly ones with 4 antenna ports. The M2000 does not have antenna ports, and the only signal enhancing option is a cellular booster (which isn't always ideal for T-Mobile's network): www.rvmobileinternet.com/boosters
I wasn’t sure if anyone had experimented with some kind of passive connection like adapting the 42G to an internal antenna or cradle. I have a pepwave 5g pro hooked up for primary with Verizon but there might be a time that t-mobile would be preferred and the extra signal strength would be nice. I would normally just put the SIM card it in the Pepwave but I’m not supposed to move it which kinda sucks. I’m have no idea why they care but I guess they do.

My family has four lines of Magenta Max Military which includes the 40 gb of hotspot. I also just added the Cricket wireless 100 gb hotspot plan. Would adding the Calyx Institute membership be redundant since we already have T-Mobile service and could add additional hotspot data to the lines if needed?
The Calyx plan is still a Sprint first plan, that roams onto T-Mobile when there's no Sprint signal. And it's unlimited on a mobile hotspot device, not from a smartphone. Just depends on your needs.

Dumb question. My S21+ is 5G. I've noticed that at times it works better if I manually change it to 4G. Apparently it is not smart enough to realize that although 5G is available it might be worthless compared to available 4G. Is the M2000 smart enough to tell the difference or offer the ability to make the change manually?

This would not be an option for that, there are no refunds. But most carriers have refund policies - be sure to check before purchasing. T-Mobile even has a free 'test drive' program.
How can I check to see what my G is as in 3G or 5G...is there some place to go on my phone that confirms this info...I ask because T mobile recently sent me a new 5G SIM card and said i had 3G but when I put the new 5G card in, it seemed like my hotspot got slower ! Don't. They send out hotspots that get bricked by a firmware update and Sprint's tech support doesn't know how to resolve. PC4P's customer service is also horrific. You'll wait at least 45 minutes to speak to someone who will then hang up on you forcing you to wait again. After two months of back and forth with no service I asked for a refund and they said no.

It is coded as a 30GB plan in their system, but it's unlimited. You shouldn't contact Sprint for support, you are not their customer. Calyx is who you contact.

ASUS routers work fantastic with Calyx Institute hotspots. I can't immediately vouch for the M2000--I ordered mine, but it's probably not going to get here for another week or so--but I can say the Franklin T9 worked flawlessly with the ASUS RT-AC68U. I think all the latest ASUS routers allow USB tethering to a hotspot or phone. Yes, Calyx Institute is a home internet solution, too! I can't wait to get mine to test the speed in our "5G-Limited Signal Strength" area. We want to ditch Cox. This video is a huge scoop!

I had bought the SyncUP Drive unlimited internet service hotspot it’s $35 a month I hope it is worth it, I asked if I would be able to use my laptop in my RV trailer T-MOBILE said yes , I am asking you if you would know if it does or not, I would park my Chevy Silverado truck in front of the RV trailer and take my laptop in the RV and see if I can get internet from there , it has a lot of nice Features like it tells you the health of your car or truck and if anyone opens the door and GPS so you know where your truck or vehicle is at

Here they are using Band n28 for rural areas and even in 4g with band 20 at 800Mhz and there are many places with no coverage. I get about 2-4 Mbps on Sprint. Occasionally it roams on T-mobile where I get up to 70 Mbps. It prioritizes Sprint service over T-mobile. It is very frustrating.
Then this option would not be as ideal for that location, and you'd use another option in your arsenal. We're the *mobile* internet resource center for those who change locations frequently (like RVers and boaters).
I am disappointed that you did not disclose that this device has mmWave disabled. And I am disappointed that you did not tell your viewers that the performace increase from LTE to 5G is negligable.
T-Mobile doesn't really have mmW coverage, and the speed difference on T-Mobile between LTE and 5G is actually pretty substantial. We have a full video (linked from within) to the M2000 that goes over all the details.
I love my Calyx and will be upgrading when mine runs out in Aug. Plus it is true no throttling!

Hmm.. intersting. We just renewed our Contributor Plus annual membership at $500, and the letter they gave us stated $380 is tax deductible.

I have a pepwave duo and parsec that is waiting to be installed. Seems like you should be able to tether the hotspot to the router?

We don't cover Wi-Fi extenders for local area networking.. they're typically not needed in an RV or boat application.

The M2000 allows you to manually select a 4G network, overriding the 5G default.

Sprint sim cards go dark at the end of 2021. I wouldn't sign up for any service that provides Sprint instead of T-Mobile card

You can only use their devices per the terms of service. (not calyx's choice but sprint will kill your service if caught, no refunds)

5G is actually being deployed over low, mid and high band frequencies. You're confusing mmWave with 5G.

T-Mobile is deploying over n71 / 600 Mhz, and their 5G speeds in rural and suburban areas are substantially better than their 4G.

No throttle on Sprint seems like the throttle is the shitty coverage
It now roams onto T-Mobile when there's no Sprint coverage.
@@MobileInternetResourceCenter what if there IS sprint coverage, but it's really slow compared to Tmobile? I can get sprint but it was 150x slower than Tmobile.
I get about 2-4 Mbps on Sprint. Occasionally it roams on T-mobile where I get up to 70 Mbps. It prioritizes Sprint service over T-mobile. It is very frustrating.
Then this option would not be as ideal for that location, and you'd use another option in your arsenal. We're the *mobile* internet resource center for those who change locations frequently (like RVers and boaters).
I am disappointed that you did not disclose that this device has mmWave disabled. And I am disappointed that you did not tell your viewers that the performace increase from LTE to 5G is negligable.
T-Mobile doesn't really have mmW coverage, and the speed difference on T-Mobile between LTE and 5G is actually pretty substantial. We have a full video (linked from within) to the M2000 that goes over all the details.
