People who have commented below have given their personal opinions about Rafi Saab and Kishore Da, which is ok. However, If you look at the history of Hindi film music, Rafi Saab was always way ahead of all his contemporaries. Except R.D. Burman, all music Directors like Madan Mohan, Ravi, Naushad, Shankar- Jaikishan, S D Burmsn, Lakshmikant Pyarelal, Kalyanjil Anandji, Roshan etc have used Rafi Saab for a majority of their compositions. Kishore Da shot into prominence because the phenomenon - Rajesh Khanna wanted to create a new trend and have a 'voice' for himself. With the downfall of Rajesh Khanna, Rafi was once again supreme- from 'Teri Galiyon me rakhenge Kadam' , Laila Majhnu, AAA etc.
India is blessed to have both rafi sahab and Kishore da. One cannot count their contribution to hindi cinema. Hindi music is incomplete without them or one of them. They are my favorite singers. फिल्मी गायको को तीन तरह की ट्रेनिंग होती है। शास्त्रीय, voice culture और फिल्मी गायकी। किशोरदा को शास्त्रीय ट्रेनिंग नही थी मगर उनकी voice culture सब से बेहतर थी और वो तरह तरह की आवाज आसानी से निकाल सकते थे, और फिल्मी गायकी भी रफ़ी साहिब जितनी ही अद्भुत!

Both were great and had different styles of singing. Rafi was of course versatile and could easily sing qawwali, classical, bhajan, patriotic songs, love songs. Kishor had limitations for high pitch, classical, pterotic, qawwali. Love songs both were good with different styles.

The peek period of rafi sahab was 1953 to 1969 and while kishore kumar sahab had reached at his peek in 1970 and it ended with his death in 1987. Rafi sahab is above any sort of comparison with any singer in all over the world. Kishore sahab was also the great singer but hs singing talent was limited in the comparison of Rafi sahab.

किशोर दा के बारे में जितना भी कहूँ शब्द कम पड़ जायेंगे, तारीफों के जितनी भी शब्दावली है उससे कई गुना आगे, इसलिये मै अभी सिर्फ एक शब्द कहूंगा किशोर दा मतलब भगवान् है मेरे लिए. और भगवान् से बढ़कर कोई नहीं.
अब आते हैं रफी 'साहब' की आवाज पर, मैंने जीतने भी वीडियो देखे हैं उन सब मे मो. रफी को बहोत महान बताते है, और इसके पीछे तर्क ये है कि उन्होंने शास्त्रीय विधा सीखी थी, लेकिन क्या ये एकमात्र कारण होना चाहिए, किसी की काबलियत को बड़चढकर बताने के लिए?? जब हम कोई गीत सुनते हैं तब क्या हम ये देखते हैं कि वो गीत शास्त्रीय है या नही?, या फिर जब कोई गीत मधुर लगता हैं, जिसमे संगीत अच्छा हो, गीत के बोल अच्छे हो, अच्छा गाया गया है तब........ कभी कभी अच्छे फिलमंकन् के वजह से भी अच्छा लगता हैं. हालाँकि किशोर दा ने कई शास्त्रीय गीत भी गाये है.
जितनी साफ आवाज किशोर दा की है उतनी तो किसी भी गायक की नही है. लेकिन मो. रफी के प्रशंसक किशोर दा की आवाज को शोर कहते है, जो किशोर दा के भक्त है वो कभी भी मो. रफी का अपमान नही करते है लेकिन मो. रफी के प्रशंसक बहोत जल्दी चीडने लगते है. बहोत संभव है कि मै ये सब इसलिये कह रहा हूँ क्योंकि मै किशोर दा का भक्त हूँ लेकिन इससे उपर उठकर मैंने बहोत बार कोशिश की है , मो. रफी के गाने को पुरा सुनने की, लेकिन यकीन मानिये २ लाइन से ज्यादा मै वो आवाज बर्दाश्त ही नही कर पाता हूँ, हाथ पर गिनने लायक कुछ बहोत ही गिने चुने गीत है जो मुझे अच्छे लगते है, एकदम सपाट आवाज और हर गीत एक समान ना तो कोई उतार चड़ाव नजर आता है और ना ही सुनने में आनंद, किशोर दा के गीत गुणगुनाओ तो गालो मे रस भर जाता है लेकिन मो रफी के गीत गाने से पुरा मूड ही खराब हो जाता है। ....... .......

किशोर कुमार निर्भीक होकर सच्चाई को स्वीकार करते थे कि उन्होंने विधिवत शास्त्रीय संगीत नही सीखा था। यह कटुसत्य है कि कोई भी फिल्मी पार्श्व गायकों या गायिकाओं ने शास्त्रीय संगीत की विधिवत शिक्षा नही ली थी। विधिवत शास्त्रीय संगीत शिक्षा लेने के लिए किसी भी शिष्य को अपने उम्र के शुरुआती 18 साल गुरु के सानिध्य मे रहना पड़ता है। लता मंगेशकर, मो.रफी,मुकेश, मन्ना डे आदि लोग कब किसी गुरु के गुरुकुल मे रहे थे। ये सभी लोग वास्तव मे 12 वर्ष से 15 वर्ष की उम्र से लगातार फिल्मी पार्श्व गायन मे अपने पैर जमाने के लिए संघर्ष कर रहे थे।घर मे कोई संगीत मास्टर रखकर एक घंटे का ट्यूशन तो भारतवर्ष मे हर तीसरे घर मे लड़कियां सीख लेती हैं। बड़े गुलाम अली,भीमसेन जोशी, किशोरी अमोनकर,कुमार गंधर्व, अजय चक्रवर्ती,पं.जसराज और बाकी सभी शास्त्रीय गायक बेवकूफ थे क्या जो कि अपनी 6वर्ष की उम्र मे गुरु या उस्ताद बनाकर 12 साल से 14 साल तक गुरुकुल मे रहकर विधिवत शास्त्रीय संगीत की शिक्षा ग्रहण किये थे।लोग अज्ञानतावश ऐसा भ्रम पालते हैं, कि गाने के बीच-बीच मे "*सा रे ग म प ध नि सा*" जब तक ना बोला जाय तब तक वह गाना शास्त्रीय संगीत नही होता है।जबकि वास्तव मे गाने के प्रत्येक लाइन को स्वरलिपि मे गाया जा सकता है।किशोर कुमार के फिल्मो मे अभिनय भी करने के कारण दुसरे अभिनेता(देव आनन्द और महमूद को छोड़कर)और प्रोड्यूसर उनसे गाने नही गवाते थे।सत्यजीत राय ने किशोर कुमार को एक exploited जिनीयस कहा था।
