BBC2, Channel 4 and the Sci-fi channel showed this XD People knew about it, hell one of the reaons it got made was to create anime aimed at the west (dominion tank police also had a lot of time spent on it for that reason too)... If you want some more cyber city content then get the manga there was one :D

And so yes it was dubbed for the west, but very very very few people were watching Anime back in the late 80s/early 90s when they were aired on C4. "lots" of people don't stay up until stupid o'clock in the morning. So, not a lie but facts. All Anime was created from their Manga originals back then, with a few exceptions of course. Yes DTP came here, as did 3x3 eyes, Doomed Megalopolis, Guyver, Legend of the Four Kinds, X, Battle Angle Alita, Macross, Appleseed, Evangelion, Dangaioh and i could go on and on. My brother and I had all the VHSs of anything in the UK we could find.

Brilliant!! the characters worked so well together, the storylines were flawless, epic soundtrack. I just wished they had made more of them....many many more.
Not surprising. It was one of the first anime I ever saw and to my mind still one of the best. For me it sits amongst ghost in the shell and Akira as legendary manga. They really knew how to do it in the late 80s and early 90s.
My only tiny nitpick on this masterful remaster is Benten's final line. It should have been verbatim from the series: "Nothing last forever... not even the light." It's poignant and makes more sense in relation to what Remi says beforehand.
This version is so much better than the Japanese OST. I watched this series on Channel 4 decades ago, and on a whim bought it on VHS only to find it had the Japanese soundtrack. I gave it to a mate, and spent the next few years looking for the UK one. It really makes a difference to the entire show. ♥️

@@miketurley9571 Does the blue ray contain a version with UK voices AND UK score? That was the version I had back then on VHS, and it was the best one, obviously, but it seems hard to find it nowadays in HQ.
This short Manga series was amazing , rarely can I say a soundtrack has given me goosebumps . Would it be a good ideal if the story carried on or equaled a prequel ? Or maybe that's all there should of been because of its greatness .

Haha true fact Blade Wolves.. I like both, but one thing is sure, it changes everything. Whole ambiance sounds more real and serious with the japanese dub.
@@afk37 yes... In france, a lot of great japanese animes has been ruined by doublers, like Hokuto No Ken, but... Complicated story! Teen/Adult animes in Japan, they were selled to be watched by kids so sometimes they tried to disguise the violence into something more "childish" and fun. Sometimes also it was just a loss of interest, and a loss of respect. Most of the trime, it was both for this new cultural "products", something yet so unkown... Happily now, we can judge with different versions most of the time, and 90% of the time I prefer the japanese version + subtitles. Animes like Hokuto No Ken has not to be funny and censored.

En plus aujourd'hui on baigne dans l'ironie, le sarcasme, le 2nd degré, c'est omniprésent... Ca me gonfle ! Du coup, rien de plus rafraichissant que les oeuvres de fin du XXème à prendre au 1er degré, surtout lorsque c'est la volonté initiale de l'auteur. En passant, j'aime beaucoup ton travail, pas que les mix mais tes compositions originales, j'espère que tu vas continuer sur ta lancée !
I like how Arena plays like End Of Line from Tron Legacy. It's job is to build tension .. not unlike computer game loading music. Still, I prefer either Elevator or Stars.
I love that scene. Shortly, Sengoku squeezes the milk carton, milk everywhere as he kicks the fridge door shut with utter profanity. The 'lighting' in that scene is also great. There are so many wonderful one liners in this series. I really wish they had made more.

On a side note I was quite happy when CyberCity was finally released on Blu-ray last year with both soundtracks. Pretty gnarly how the creators discuss the films as well , incredibly insightful stuff

This soundtrack is so excellent, the guitar, the synths, everything on it, fits the mood of CC OEDO 808 perfectly.

Having replayed Deus Ex recently the synth opening for the 'Space Prison' theme reminds me very much of some of Alexander Brandon's work on its OST.

I'm fortunate enough to still have the original VHSs i bought in the early 90s for this, fricken awesome but short series with an amazing soundtrack.
In French we got this intro music and more inside the épisode than in english version, they cut a lot inside it's stinks
They just released it on bluray with the UK soundtrack

Anyone know if the 2023 UK remastered Blu Ray will have this soundtrack, or the US/Japanese one instead?
Yes it has both and an improved remaster, but it doesn't have the soundtrack CD like the first release.
