George , this takes me back to when I left school and started work on a local farm in the early 60s , our binder was all driven by that big land wheel, no pto , great times .
Well George, you know the old saying if it isn’t broke don’t fix it well that’s most certainly what we have here and anyway if the taller wheat storks are going for thatching roofs then I think it’s better that this 80 year old machine cuts the the wheat crop, so then the thatchers have an excellent quality product to use when they are thatching roofs with and until next time George, TaRa for a bit.
Saw an old black & white movie about the olden days of farming in the Soviet Union a few months ago and they had these huge fields with a fleet of those harvesters and hundreds of people in the fields gathering the bundles up and stacking them on wagons being pulled by a team of horses. Amazing to watch!
A brilliant video George, nothing wrong with a bit of the old stuff. There can’t be many binders about that have been filmed with a drone!! Excellent filming and some wonderful still photos of the sheaves in the field. I like it 👍👏
Absolutely beautiful video George. A lot of those binders were ground driven by the single metal wheel. My father had a PTO driven Massey Harris binder. I worked it as a kid. A neighbour had a PTO driven Bisset binder.
Hi George, It’s just great for you to bring back so many memories, I remember when we would go rabbiting following a binder like. that good old days, 🌈🌈👍
Last time I saw one of those working was 50yrs ago when I was a boy (I think it was entirely ground drive). You should have included a bit of footage of it being setup for road transport George. That’s an art form all in itself. 👍
Brilliant video, my grandfather had an Albion PTO binder, said it was far superior to anything else at the time. But, time moved on, and in the 60’s getting a contractor in with a matador meant less work, and virtually no losses to rats between harvest and threshing time. But down the road with his binder, went the building of the corn stacks, thatching them and the need for so many men.
Ye Gods, I worked behind one when I was about fourteen years old, it was even older than that as it had been changed from horse drawn to a tractor draw bar and it was driven by a land wheel. Thanks George for bringing back some happy memories,
re bonjour George et liz merci pour cette belle vidéo , dans mon village on fête tout les deux ans la fête de la moisson , il y a un site internet c est houlle comme autrefois , un bon courage a vous 😍👍👍👍👍
Good video George 👍 that ED40 had the 23c standard engine in it but it had a glow plug in each cylinder which made it a better starter 🤔 we have 2 binders at the club up here one is PTO driven an the other one is land wheel drive 👍 loved the video in black an white 👍
I used to get the call to help out on threshing days on one local farm until my late teens. Definitely a bit of nostalgia there , however I also remember how dusty it was and how the chaff got everywhere. A hot bath was much needed at the end of the day.
George you should do a series of old fashion farming around the country, I sent you a small clip of what i filmed this week, was a old tractor and baler, Some great filming too George and Liz
And you haven't changed a bit from the 40s 😆😀😁👍 Yea great bit of vintage kit when you look back all these little villages sprung up all for these farm workers to help in harvest
About 20 minutes before the notification for your video came down my grandad was telling me about the days when he used to use a binder👍 brilliant video as always George
Takes me back to my early years my father had a binder the same as that 1 !!! He used a 35 on front of it , I use to get to sit on the seat but not allowed to move the handles !!!! That was in the days when health and safety was not heard of !!! Well not on fathers farm !! Good video !!!!
Hi George, nice to see the old Albion out binding again this year, I have photographed it myself in past years as you may know, keep up the good work and well done to Pete and team.
Fantastic that George and you've got a first class land army lass there too. My dad still has his 1936 Fordson and my 1958 Massey Harris still mows the local verges.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video mr Saunders it was a great watch from the start to the end. The way you changed the video into old times style was so fitting with the topic. Your smashing these lately 👍
Fantastic bit of kit, back in 2007 and 08 I helped run a threashing machine at a few steam shows, one we did was a three day show and we ran out of sheaves on the first day, the farmer let us go and cut as much as we wanted that evening, we was out for the best part of 4 hours cutting with the binder and a fordson n on the front, we set them in to stooks over night and picked them up early next morning with a allis and flat trailer, great fun
The Albon binder, theres a good chance that machine was made in the next town to me. Harrison McGregor and Guest of Leigh Lancashire, which was swallowed up by David Brown later to become Case under the Tenneco label. All gone now theres a shopping centre where the old factory stood. ......... sound like a right old guy........ maybe because I am!!
Another great video George it’s really nice to see an 80 year old antique machine still doing perfectly what it’s made to do liked the section filmed in sepia mode really added a nice touch 👍
Lovely video. Nostalgic .Nice to see .Must not forget the hard work involved in actually getting the crop trashed etc. The rose tinted spectacles often give the wrong impression
Great video George, it always fascinated me as a child how the Binder was re-configured from the transport position to the working position, and vise versa.
Brilliant video, i could watch that all day would love to get the chance to put one of the Fergies on a binder one day 🙂. Old Allis seems a perfect match for it
I can recall my dad talking about the binder when he used to work on a threshing crew. Another really interesting video George, nice to see so many thanks for taking the time to do the video!
What story's that machine could tell 🤔😁. The amount of people involved at that time of year as well. Good job on the video nice idea. 👍 Stay safe 🏴
Brilliant George 👍👍 agriculture around the 1940s has always intrigued me, it seemed an exciting “modern” time to be farming especially with a world war going on.
Hi George i am 70 now and i remember them days very well the biggest day of the year was threshing day great video
Awsome video George & Liz nice 👍 old bit of kit good 👍 to see it working 👍👍🏴🏴🇬🇧🇬🇧🚜
George , this takes me back to when I left school and started work on a local farm in the early 60s , our binder was all driven by that big land wheel, no pto , great times .

What an amazing bit of kit. I hope I'm still working that well when I'm 80.
Ill bet that's never missed a beat. No electrical gremlins to worry about!! Another great vid Lad!
the one my great grandfather had is still in the woods rotting away.
Too far gone or worth saving?
Well George, you know the old saying if it isn’t broke don’t fix it well that’s most certainly what we have here and anyway if the taller wheat storks are going for thatching roofs then I think it’s better that this 80 year old machine cuts the the wheat crop, so then the thatchers have an excellent quality product to use when they are thatching roofs with and until next time George, TaRa for a bit.

There is something quite fascinating about this old machinery so simple and reliable yet effective 👌
Last time I saw one of those working was 50yrs ago when I was a boy (I think it was entirely ground drive). You should have included a bit of footage of it being setup for road transport George. That’s an art form all in itself. 👍

Back when life was slow a injoyable. To day everything is fast paced
