      Thank you. They are hardy throughout our entire region: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/. Developed from hardy native species they are hardy to USDA Zone 4 and warmer (Zones 5-6-7 etc.). The main thing to stress is good drainage, winter early spring wetness can cause crown rot, so this is more of an issue than the hardiness.

    Can you take root cuttings from echinacea in the winter?

    • @OverdevestNurseries
      @OverdevestNurseries  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We've seen some plants (occasionally) regenerate from severed roots, so in theory it is possible, however we have never heard of it being used as common practice.
      Most people that want to increase their stocks (and keep their clumps growing vigorously) will divide clumps in the dormant season.
      And, this we would suggest, is a better way to get extra plants of your favorite Coneflowers. This can be done in Autumn (or even during mild spells in winter), but the best time (at least for us) is early spring before or just as the new growth begins to emerge.
      Sometimes, when we are splitting ours, bits of the roots will break off, so you could always try a few roots potted upright, and see if they will sprout form the top.

    How do u keep the stems so hardy? Mine start tipping over eventually

    • @OverdevestNurseries
      @OverdevestNurseries  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Full sun and well drained soil, that is not too rich!
      It might be that your plants are getting a bit too much nutrient and irrigation.
      That will cause rank growth, that can become too lush and topple over.
      So, if this seems likely and they are well established, ease off on the feeding and watering and grow them a little "harder"!
      Some varieties are taller and more vigorous than others, and if our plants begin to topple over after rain storm, we just trim them back and let them come again. You might also consider trimming them back by about half in early summer, this will set the flowering date back a bit but it will also make them bushier, more compact and sturdier too.

      Our only experience with them is in our Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic region of the USA. Suggest you check with your local nurseries and perhaps check out local gardens too - if you see anything thriving there the chances are that they will do for you too.
