  • If you want to learn the basics to plastering and learn how to plaster your own walls then join The Plastering For Beginners welcome Course. It's a free plastering course ideal for anyone who wants to learn how to plaster: plasterersblue...
Today, we're going to show you the exact water and plaster needed to get the perfect mix in plastering. This is probably one of the most important steps because if your mix is ruined then everything afterwards will fail.
The links to the tools mentioned in the video are below:
    ----
    Von House Mixer - amzn.to/3WQEwXF
    Refina Mega Mixer - amzn.to/3ikeEEC
    Combo Drill Attachment - amzn.to/3jMFqWm
    ----
Again, you don't need an expensive drill but I don't recommend mixing by hand. It's slows the process down and it's very hard to get a nice, smooth mix. If you like this video hit the like and subscribe button if you want to be part of the course.
And please leave a comment on what you want to see next. I'd love to hear from you.
    Hope you enjoy the training.

I’m so glad you are making this course of videos and I’m really looking forward to having a go. I’ve got plenty of renovation to do on this house before I can trying my hand at plastering, I’m fixing the staircase up a bit today. I’m sure there will be trial and error in my first few plastering attempts but I’m confident that with your help I can get it done. 👍

Hi , if didn't want to mix a full bag would you recommend weighing out the amount say 1/4 of a bag then adjust the amount of water by the same proportion. By the way great video. Thanks

I just do odd bit of plastering here or there, I use my SDS drill for mixing, obvs if a pro buy a real mixer. I think you risk burning out a combi drill. Also watch the speed, dedicated mixers go slower than generic drills. Trigger control important if using a generic drill.

If we’re doing a one-off job as an amateur, we can’t justify buying a proper mixer; but we still need to do it properly.

Excellent Blaine love it. How do you control suction on new plasterboard? I’ve plastered on to it and within a couple of minutes it’s dry! Maybe my plaster is too thick but doesn’t seem it and I even tried spraying water on it before now but doesn’t work! Have you any tips please?

    • @pwilczy

Painting walls with PVC helps to control suction.

Always check USE BY DATE on the plaster bag. If it is out of date - mine was 5-6 month after and it become solid within 30 seconds - I have lost my paddle mixer and bucket.

I just wanted to say a big thankyou for your videos. Ive done a whole bluddy house. You cant learn plastering from a book, you can learn everything else, but plastering its more like a dance you have to mirror. Its not an exact science either, so you have to learn about porosity, suction, viscosity, humidity, so much.
      .
The first one I watched was about artex ceilings, I had them throughout and some textured walls. So I thought I should pack it out myself to save some money - but then I thought I should buy a speed skim, a bag of multifinish and just give it a go, for a Sunday.
      .
I watch your videos in full and I like how you really drill in the important messages.
      .
Id advise anyone who is willing and able to learn, its a long learning curve. If you, like me are in the house flipping business up north. (if ure in the south east try and get this guy). Its an expenive trade not to learn, and a cheap trade to try to learn. A bit of gypock, a few second hits. Its lauable to think how slow I was a couple months ago.
      .
I even built a new wall at an over hanging angle to eek out about 2m2 more of room space over the staircase, and I skimmed it, its an obtuse angle with a little curve in it. (im a little to proud of that curve
      .
Just a big TY - everyone needs a mentor in the game and you are mine for plastering. Ive done electrics, ive done plumbing, and roofing, but plastering is the holy grail for the community so I think I can talk on their behalf when I say you are a value to the community.

Not all work places have power...so hand mixing is a vital skill...and if I'd mixed finish plaster in such a filthy bucket I'd have been in big trouble ..try skimming plaster board with solid bits of plaster from your dirty bucket...joke.
