For everyone asking what it's like in the inside for a brief look at the circuit. Funnily enough I have no idea how but I completely forgot!!! It was on my to do list to do yesterday, and since that I appeared to have forgotten I had a to do list... fudge knows how!!! I forgot who I was for a second lol. I will make a video tomorrow and share an unlisted link in this comment!
These videos are always nice when you see some kit going to the right place and being appreciated. Thanks on behalf of the viewing- and museum-visiting audience!
Back in the day I made it into a rudimentary hybrid kit by gluing a piezo on the acoustic drum head and using this as a low end beefy signal and mixing them together.
@@Moonfacedman does your uncle have the schematics? Would he be willing to share? I would love to see how he worked this thing out at the circuit level. Reminds me of a Simmons SDS-3 or a Syncussion. Very cool piece of kit.
Sam: This was meant to keep drummers in jobs. Also Sam: Let's hook it to our friend the sequencer! Pretty fun-sounding machine, in all seriousness, and the travel vlog is awesome too.
I was literally thinking Wade needs his own Gig Master... Might not be his cup of tea, though? Most of his electronic drums he's featured seemed to have just been for the novelty, more that as an actual entry in the museum. Either way, they do indeed have sufficient overlapping interests that merit a collab! 😊
Imma be honest, I'm mostly here for the energetic and excellent road-travel-description accompanied by satisfying Mini noises. Cute drum thingy though!
Yeah jet motors and mini mania! But over there you'll be paying top dollar as they are still ten a penny in the U.K. these cars. But command higher prices in places like US as like unicorn poop
Yeah love a fun little car, i have a bmw 1600 with a tii fuel injection in it, its a fun little go cart to drive around town. Sam's little mini looks like a blast!
It's so cool to see the "drum brain" get a second life on TH-cam, in the museum and on Patreon. There's no way the fellas designing it in 1985 could have imagined this outcome. It's a good reminder for us all that, as William Gibson said, the street finds its own uses for things.
That's pretty damn sweet. It's awesome that you can output individual channels and have it subtracted from the rest of the main output. As usual, the extra effort of You taking us on a Road trip is appreciated. It blows my mind why You're not at a million subs. That's not to say the 650k isn't respectable , but You work as hard as Colin Furze 🙂 Keep doing what You're doing Sam, even if You don't know what you're doing.
Good thing your car doubles as a road cone! Those printed hold-down things on your Beatstep are a great idea. I'm out of room for all the printed laps I've been putting my stuff on. I'll have to try those.
I love that car, if I had drivers licence I'd love a small car like that. And oh my lord those drums are funky and the aesthetic of them perfectly encapsulates the times
Never heard of? This best looking vintage e-kit has it's given place in my living room so I see it everyday. :D This frying pan goes chrome heaven is so 80's looking it's putting my other e-kits in storage. I love how they came in such a variety of colours too. I have seen a green kit (Hi Thomas H!) and tried to buy an orange one online many years ago and I see you've got the black one. Mine is metallic blue. I also have the original case in storage too btw. That is even more of a dodgy build btw... Spread the Seabro Gig Master gospel to the masses!
There were a bunch of these types of drum synthesizers similar to the Simmons SDS-8. Tama Techstar is somewhat similar too. Admittedly have never seen this particular oddity.
love it!!! somewhat similar to my Simmons sds7/ beatstep pro setup except I think time has finally caught up to my sds7 :( it needs some love that I can't afford to spend right now. maybe I'll get to hear this in October?
Those beats you was making was taking me to my misspent youth in the 80s I had a mini that was similar to yours but it was yellow many a night driving around listening to electro beats
Love the sound produced from that brain. It sounds a 'little' similar to the E-mu Emax - there were some Pretty Hate Machine vibes happening in my head listening to this video.
This is so similar to the Drumfire DF-500! I love mine and have made my own video about it a few years ago. It comes with small contact mics that are intended to attach to an acoustic drum kit instead of standalone pads. But its a great synth in its own right as well
Super Cool! You can imagine in a working mans club some cabaret act getting the brushes out on that! Awesome to see one in such great condition too. :)
Yay, this car is so teeny tiny! Maybe even smaller than Fiat 126p a.k.a. "Maluch" which ruled the roads of '70s and '80s Poland. Nice gig machine and drum kit. Proper '70s funky :)
neoprene rubber. weirdly expensive stuff new. not sure why. Kid-sized wetsuits are commonly found in op-shops in my area in really good condition. if your on good terms with your local publican, promo, branded stubby holders (aka coosies) is another good source. a very useful resource to have in your toolkit
You vids are great, but they are greater when they include one of the Minis. And especially when you come to BOURNEMOUTH WOOOO!!! I'll get the kettle on!
Yes, never heard for this before. But its not bad when you think of the things that did actually make it. great video 2x👍 PS nice lens flare in the intro 👌😘
That headphone jack labeled input is breaking my brain a little🙃 like I get the thinking, you are plugging them IN to it, but it's an output- by the end of the video idk what words mean anymore lol
It would be easy to replace the piezo mic in the kick drum with a microswitch mounted in the pedal mechanism. It would be interesting to see a peek of that circuit board in there.
Sam mentions above that he's going to post an unlisted video link tomorrow at the inside of on of them. so come back to this video tomorrow for the link. I guess it will be a pinned comment or added to the description. As if to say, you'll not be notified of the vid.
The sound of the drumbrain reminds me of the original space invaders arcade game. There’s just something to how the noise part sounds that I think is very similar.
My dad built a Maplin 4600 when I was a kid. I remember each new batch of components arriving and helping him check them off on the delivery note. I don’t know what happened to it, my mum thinks it didn’t work properly and he put it in a skip :(
This sounds like a Mattel Synsonics on steroids. I kind of love it. Tune the toms and throw some gated reverb, compression and a little extra white noise and you'll have instant THOOM 80s electro toms.
I've had the great pleasure of owning something very similar since the same period, probably more readily available but still hard to find; the Pearl Fightman! It rather has 2 channels devoted to cymbal sounds and 1 hihat.
Why don’t you make your own version of the drum kit out of pots and pans! Or other weird and wonderful objects. Maybe watermelons, oranges and apples. Love that people can hire out the instruments, great idea.

@@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER Very cool, looking forward to it :) 👍
Lol, Thanks Sam. Saved me from having to ask.
I'm pretty sure Sam could knock up wave shaper circuits to sort out the double-triggering, probably in his sleep .😂
Schematic on one of those synth modules and a DIY version would be 👌.
Just make it a listed video and call it a "Bonus!"
When LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER calls it a niche product, you know its a *really* niche product!
Also, seeing your lovely car in video is always a joy!
Nice to meet you Sam, the added travelogue was a bonus 😂 give John a ring sometime to find out more…

Sam, your Clarksonian narration is spot-on.

Pretty fun-sounding machine, in all seriousness, and the travel vlog is awesome too.
In my head the camera just stayed waiting at minster services
No, the camera was being looked after by the cameraman. He was pissed once Sam came back. Things that didn't happen.
A Look Mum No Computer / Dankpods crossover video would be awesome. music gear and cars for days!

My son went to your museum at the weekend ! said it was great

Big Respect for the Car! Looks amazing!
I absolutely love that car. It is amazing and I wish I could get my hands on one like it here in the states.

That is a wicked mini!
that brain is really amazing for its time especially how you can process outputs separately, great sounds of its time or a bit earlier really
That feature marks it out as at least a semi-pro piece of kit.
@@DMLand yup! as a sound engineer with tons of weird rack units i'd love that feature.
There are noises coming out of that brain that sound very 'Chemical Brothers'.
