Use two servo motors in combination with any audio device and turn tunes into toons. This could be the simplest - and one of the coolest - robot project you ever build!

Also, this is probably one of the coolest projects I've seen on here ever. It's a great way to show kids how you used to load programs into 8-bit computers using cassette tapes.

This is similar to the scara robot I built, but I like some of your alternations. So I'm building a mark II using them. Specifically, I like the built in work surface which means that the robot retains calibration between each use. I also like using the batteries as a counter weight to the servos. The skid in the forearm is a great idea to because it means that the pen tip has a nice even pressure across the page.

A Haxor is like a handsaw, its just a nickname.

Usually nicknames are used when the actually name is long or cumbersome. In this case, "haxor" is no more efficient than "hacksaw".

How do these complex projects not have someone (the video maker) simply buy these parts in bulk, put all of them into boxes and sell them on eBay or amazon with a link provided in the description? I and others would be glad to spend an extra ten or twenty dollars to know I had all the parts in hand delivered to my door rather than to stumble around a rad shack based on a still frame of a video. and the creator would make a fortune.
Do you need the RadioShack® Digital Soldering Station? And if so, why? Trying to make this into a schoolproject but as u probably can understand I don't wanna spend over 160$ on this :p

Yes a suppose you could thank you for bringing that up now I want to try it.
Yes you can, just replace the pen with your laser but you will not cut but just burn the paper.
Domino SixO I think that may depend on the laser but yeah, I thought about using it with harder materials tough.
Maximiliano Pena You can use a powerful laser but control it with a regulator so you will be able to cut or just simple burn and have cool draws.
it would be very inaccurate look at how jumpy the lines are on the page

I'd be interested to see what effect the noise from (e.g.) MP3 compression has on the resultant image, and at various levels of aggressiveness.
+James Stanley It would also be interesting to set it up, plug a splitter into your jack port, plug in both your headphones and the machine, callibrate it, then produce music, see what it draws. Sell the drawing for 20000$ as modern art.

What if the wires of the servos are brown, red and yellow?
Could this work with 9g micro servos if not what about metal micro servos ?

For once, can you make an awesome project with just a Raspberry Pi? Like turning it into a hackbox, or a python encryption or and decryption application? Or have a video with things you find around your house (yes, I mean all of the them...well, except the Raspberry Pi)? Like a robot made out of a shoebox, motor, wheel, and an RPi

on the website is a link to Enercell™ 6V/300mA AC Adapter but its not used ? but i can use it instead the battery pack? but the batterys are the counterweight will it still be functional without them?

Rather then images, would this same build work with me drawing PCBs board layouts? So that I can design pcbs and have this little thing draw them out

I'm making this as my final year project at college. I can't get the servos to turn beyond calibration. I'm using a lab bench power supply. Should I increase supply current or is there something else? @make:
What if you attach the servos to the knobs of an Etch a Sketch. You would have to modify the software for making the wave files but it should work.

Hi, I've built the TRS drawbot for a school assignment and everythings seems to be working except the last and maybe most crucial part. Whenever I try to use the drawbot with any of the saved SVG-files I get an error message saying "Input string was not in a correct format". I have tried draw stuff through the stipplegen program aswell but get the same exact message. Please help, what to do?

i built, but did not know how to play it I have not worked for what followed all the steps, but I did not understand how to operate it the way
The title made me think you were going to do this with a TRS -80 (Tandy Radio Shack 80 computer).
SO how can I convert this into a 3D printer? Perhaps adding a z-axis?

You have to use a .exe file to generate a .wav file.
I built one but i cant figure out how to download the WAVE synth software...

How many lumens? I made one using a 100watt led, its a whopping 10,000 lumens!

+Ganesh Hosur There is a very simple stereo lithography printer that has been built that uses an audio signal to control the laser. But it's prints are very crude.

Could it be possible to control it just with arduino ? Because this project requires apple devices, I do have iPad2 but it doesnt work . it seems that it doesnt have enough power.
T1iCanon wat. This works with anything that can play a wav file, and output that over a normal 3.5mm headphone jack.
dumle29 I tried, and several other tried it too. If you go to the project page there is a lot of people that are upset because it doesnt work on any device that can play waw file.

I made this and am trying to play it thru my laptop. It's not doing anything. Through troubleshooting I'm finding that my pc outputs an analog signal with realtek audio manager and I can't seem to change it. Any software recommendations?
