    Using a readymade disk image and one simple solder connection, turn your Raspberry Pi into a streaming pirate radio.
    This project was originally created by Oliver Mattos and Oskar Weigl. It was revised by Ryan Grassel and extended by MAKE Labs engineering intern Wynter Woods. Go team!
    NOTE: The Raspberry Pi's broadcast frequency can range between 1Mhz and 250Mhz, which may interfere with government bands. We advise that you limit your transmissions to the standard FM band of 87.5MHz--108.0MHz and always choose a frequency that's not already in use, to avoid interference with licensed broadcasters.

    Note: At about 1:56, when he refers to "pin 4", he actually means pin 7, also known as GPIO04.

    To make a resonant antenna (proper length for the frequency), divide 468 by the frequency, in your case 108. Smart to keep it vertical.

    He should have turned the pirate flag pole into the antenna.

    Formula for perfect antenna length:
    300 / MHz = X
    X x 0.95 = Y
    Y / 4 = Z
    300 is the speed of light in km/s
    MHz is the broadcasting frequenzy
    X is the radio wavelength
    Y is the fullwave antenna wavelenth. The reason to multiply by 0.95 is to compensate for wire resistance.
    Z is the length of the antenna which in this case is a 1/4-wavelenth antenna. You can also add a 1/4-th wavelenth counter weight to the ground so you have a halfwave antenna.

    • @HenrikRagnarsson
      @HenrikRagnarsson 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I would use the 27 mhz civil band freqs. No lawbreaking and you can reach 1000 miles away with the right conditions'

      What unit of measurement is the result?
      How do I get centimetres?

    • @Ole-vu9yj
      @Ole-vu9yj 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The speed of light is not 300 km/s! It is 300000 km/s! 300 is the Speed in Mm/s (Mega, not kilo). Because of this, the formula works well with MHz. The result is the wavelength in m. 1m = 100cm.

      What I'm seeing is that the ideal antennae length is Y, but that Y/2 and Y/4 are acceptable?

    You CANT'T stay within the FM band because PIFM emits a square wave signal, which will always emits unlimited harmonics, so you will ALWAYS transmit in military and avionic bands, this why the raspberry PI foundation attempted to make PIFM not work anymore on later models.
