    Roadster, have read GOOD things about it, a buddy says it's a favorite as well, has a balance of sweet and tart, healthy and productive. He passed seed along and plants are developing nicely. :)

    Got me a LDF t-shirt for Christmas! Happy Birthday, Brooklyn! Travis, please try Maxibel green beans next year. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Best part of the video “if you live in an area like we do…*cue gun shots*…”. Only in the south…someone is always shooting 😂

    A variety of potato that I've noticed that takes the heat better than most is the Desiree potato, it's a pink skinned with yellow meat potato.. It's a main crop potato in Europe but you can get seed in the USA... It's really productive and out does the kennebec in dry years.. It's probably the prettiest potato I've ever seen grow here in Tennessee... I think it would be interesting to you and your fans.. I think it would do better than most in the south Georgia heat... You should be able to find seed online.. I've seen it produce 25 to one here in Tennessee...

    Duke's Mayonnaise! Invented by Eugenia Duke in 1917 close to where I live in South Carolina. We don't allow any of those Yankee mayonnaise imitations in our home. LOL I almost went to work for that company. My oldest son moved North and the first thing he set up was mail delivery of Duke's Mayonnaise.

    Another great video! In my garden the tomato that stood out this year was Goliath. A late frost killed my Bella Rosas (the other tomatoes were ok?) Goliath tasted better than my Big Beef and lasted 2 weeks longer in garden. I think you should grow a corn for corn meal. You have the room and I’m sure y’all like cornbread. You would just have to get the timing right so it wouldn’t cross with the sweet corn. Last year I grew a landrace flour corn from some farmer in Oregon. Soft kernels mill fine in my nutribullet. Man….cornbread, southern peas and collards all from my own garden…..life is good. I’ve already got all my seeds for this year. And I’m gonna try something new, Sesame. A row of flowers that look like foxgloves and seeds that we can use for cooking.

    I heard so much great stuff about 'Pink Berkeley Tie Dye' and those were the most unfavorable, mushy things I ever ate! They didn't hold up well once picked red at all. I'd say we'd give it a try next year but we grew about 18 plants and not a one tasted good. Maybe it's my soil but the other varieties turned out just fine. I do like to try new varieties out but next time probably not so many 😅😂

    Merry Christmas from 9b
    My experience
    Red Snapper- Tall vigorous plant huge fruit but lacks flavor.
    Celebrity- all time favorite good yield and
    Flavorful.
    Bella Rosa- Excellent growth heavy yield
    And good flavor.
    Cherokee Purple- My new favorite best tasting of all the ones that I have grown.
    Red Duece- Beautiful fruit but the first variety to show disease.
    Lemon boy- Okay but I don't see the hype.
    Sun Gold- Amazing best yield and best tasting cherry but not very disease resistant.
    Tochi-Favorite Paste huge yield fairly disease resistant .
    Rutgers- average
    Celebration-average
    Invincible- small fruit like Tochi better.
    Homestead-average
    Oxheart- Amazing huge meaty flavorful but I just can't get them to ripen evenly.
    San Marsano Mini-excellent yields good flavor just takes a little longer.
    Florida 91-Slow growth rate low yield.
    Mountain Fresh-Similar to Celebrity good all around meaty fruit.
    All I know is when I bring in a bucket of tomatoes the Cherokee Purple's disappear before any others.

    • @LazyDogFarm
      @LazyDogFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing Craig. I like Cherokee Purple too, but they're not very vigorous for us here. I've got friends in town 7 miles away that can grow great looking plants. My guess it has something to do with the lack of beneficial insects due to all the commercial agriculture out here.

    I grew some Red Pontiac, Yukon and Kennebec potatoes in Virginia a few years ago and only used molasses as fertilizer. I had a huge harvest of huge potatoes. The only thing we did was put down newspapers and straw as mulch. Im in Texas now and its more of a challenge sine I have to grow in raised beds. But still getting good results.

    New subscriber- in Indiana in my parts, we are Hellmans mayo.
    Also i thought you were always a determinate hybrid guy more so than heirlooms and indeterminate.
    What happen to Bella Rosa as i thought that was always your go to tomato. I was shocked you didnt list that one.
    Ones that work well for me and what i will go with in 2022 for tomatoes
    Red Snapper
    Mountain Rogue
    Big Beef
    Amish paste
    Stinkers...for me it's celebrity tomato and Brandywine. I know some people would beat me over the Brandywine stinker. They produce more beautiful vines than produce...big tomatoes that always deform and crack and crack and crack and cracks on cracks. And i mean crack deeply and not just on the surface. I have tried them 3 seasons in different locations

      I like Bella Rosa. It's a great variety. But I think both Red Snapper and Roadster are slightly more vigorous and they definitely make bigger tomatoes. It's a close call, but I like them a hair better.

    Have you tried frying squash blossoms? Fix up some jiffy cornbread mix but make it too thin, like a dredge. Take a yellow summer squash flower and dredge it all in the cornbread batter and fry it up in Wesson oil or such in the frypan. Tastes much better than the squash. I’m gonna grow yellow squash for mostly the flowers! Learned that in New Mexico…long time ago.

    Haha I cheered when you said Kellogg's Breakfast! We grew it for the first time this year as well and it was my favourite orange tomato by far! My favourite white was Great White, purple was Cherokee Purple, and red was Abe Lincoln (it grew really well here and were huge tomatoes that had great flavour and were perfect in sandwiches, I'll count myself lucky they grow well for us here!)! Kind of neat that they grow really well up here in Niagara Falls Canada as well as down south where you are!

      @@LazyDogFarm yeah that makes sense. Last year my heirlooms were awful, but this year I also started them inside under grow lights, so they were very robust by the time I planted them outside. In Houston Texas, we experienced the exact opposite...loved Abe, he grew majestic and prolific, mortgage lifter was very weak and eh. I wonder how much is zone or sup par genetics for that seed.? We grew about 5 for each type, but all the same seed stock. I guess that's why you try a couple of years.

      @LazyDogFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @KelliGreen Thumb I've never had much luck with Mortgage Lifter either. But it is a very popular variety for a reason.

      @@LazyDogFarm I had horrible luck with mortgage lifter. Very heavy producer but they were an odd texture and almost tasteless. Dark Galaxy was a neat one, I'll grow that again for sure.

    Happy birthday Brooklyn. Anyone with a birthday around Christmas always gets cheated. 🤦‍♀ I ordered Yellowstone this morning because you liked it AND I wanted to try an augmented super sweet. :) I also ordered the Sante Fe pepper this morning. I had been meaning to try that one for a few years now. (ordered before this video obviously)

      Hopefully you got some of the Yellowstone prior to it being changed to just supersweet. Might could call the seller and see if you got last years seed or this years? You'll like the Santa Fe Grande.

    I enjoyed the video Travis. I’m catching up on the latest videos and want to wish Brooklyn a happy belated birthday!! I grew some phoenix tomatoes this year and I’m still getting tomatoes. They are not big tomatoes but they sure are tasty. I picked 6 yesterday and have 2 green ones remaining on the vine.

    I agree with Red Snapper. They are very productive and produce beautiful tomatoes. I am growing Red Snapper and Tachi again this year. I grew Peaches and Cream corn, and it was ok. Not sure what I did wrong, but it was a little starchy. Trying it again and maybe I'll get it right...

      I grew several different varieties last yr. my winner was Avalon 👍

    • @LazyDogFarm
      @LazyDogFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Jon Lewis If it was starchy, my best guess was that it was harvested a little late. Those "se" varieties have a shorter harvest window than some of the supersweet types. Might want to try a supersweet. Besides the flavor, we like the extended harvest and processing window.

    I really like this content as We live in 8B-9 in
    Montgomery County , Texas an wow did i have issues with our Zucchini & yellow summer SQUASH , plus teaching our 2 youngest granddaughters ages 9 & 8 how to garden & their pumpkins got ate off the stems , inside out & the moldy & snail & slug horrible Monsters as we live within walking distance to a lake , Have even had snails on the back of my house , but they didnt get into any of the grow bags I had on our deck the lengh of our home , I grow alot on the deck as close to my kitchen ..but plots also ,
    Im trying what you have shown , I put a 17 foot by 24 foot tarp on a new area to kill whats under there & gonna till in a few weeks - that darn Burmuda nasty grass/ weed i wish i could Disc it all out but $$$$ .
    God bless you & your beautiful family an Merry Christmas & lets Pray this up coming year some how we all can get through with growing as much as possible , bartering , canning , etc .with the prices going up weekly ...

      Thanks Josette! Glad you're enjoying the videos. The tarp will definitely help with the Bermuda grass, but it will require some level of cultivation in combination with the tarping to eradicate it from the garden plots.
