- Every shot from Luke's round (9 handicap) of golf at Leeds Golf Club (Cobble Hall). This was filmed in winter so most of the tee boxes are a little forward of normal and there are a few winter greens.

Well played Luke, excellent scoring.
Have a great Christmas and keep the excellent content going!
Thanks John! Have a good Christmas/new year too!
Great video Luke,we play through the winter & it's tough, but it's still nice to see your mates. You say you struggle with your putting. I see you use a blade one. I use to as well, now I use a millet, much more forgiving & I haven't looked back. Keep up the good work 😊
Really enjoyable to watch.
Keep your fingers crossed that I have been good this year as I am hoping Santa brings me some new golf shoes to replace the ones that leak. 🤞
Thanks Mark! Hope Santa pulled through for you 😉
Thanks for a great year of viewing. Love seeing all your new content. You have become a really consistent golfer well done. Happy Christmas, and have a great new year. Charles from Down Under.
Thanks Charles, I really appreciate that! Have a great Christmas/new year too mate 🙌
Another real golfer video.. i love it.. Playing golf casually for 20 years or more and I'm finally gonna join a club in January.. Can't wait to get an official handicap that i can work to improve.. i do shift work so I've 4 days off every week.. I'll be spending at least 2 of them on the course.. ⛳️
Thanks man! That sounds class 👍 we play too many courses to commit to just one with a membership but it has always appealed to me. I’m sure you’ll love it!
@UpDownGolf a tech question this time.. What video editing software do ye use? Our podcast is audio mainly but we want to get into TH-cam a bit more..
Got to say, the greens leave little to the imagination. Great show as always.
Yeah I haven't shown them at their best for sure Gav 😅 Cheers mate!
Is winter golf ideal, probably not! However, seemed like you had a good time, Luke and at the end of the day that’s the main thing… thought you played very nicely too, have a good Christmas mate 🎄
Cheers mate 👊 Hope you have a good winter break too!
Enjoyed your round mate. Cheers from Australia where it's summer golf 😁
😭😭 I wish it was here Jaffa! 😂 Thanks mate
somehow just stumbled on this channel, and its good to see things from a 9 handicap perspective, the video itself looks like decent quality too, keep it up matey
Thanks mate! Appreciate you watching 👍
Well done Luke. For me winter golf is just to get out for a walk and hack way round. But I did have a 71 on short fairways when in summer its mid 80 to 90.
Nice John! Agreed, stretch the legs and keep your eye in 👍
Goal achieved, good job Luke. I hate hibernating but because my fingers hurt in the cold, I'm unable to play. Ground frozen, need a drill to insert a tee, and with snow on the ground... Happy holidays to you and the rest of the gang.
Thanks George! I hear you, it's very hard to retain any kind of warmth in these conditions 🥶 Happy holidays to you too!
Love playing winter golf, and I'm in Canada.
Thanks for watching Hamish!
Well played! Found myself wondering if you could have chipped, like a little bump and run type shot, on some of those magnificent temporary greens, especially with those huge bucket holes.
I think you're right paghal, bump and run was the play. More chance of holing them
Nice round. We play 2 putt max on temp greens. I also wear a glove to putt in the winter. keep them tee balls in play 👍
Thanks dude!
Nice video Luke. I'm a member here and whilst it doesn't look amazing right now, in comparison to a lot of courses locally I've played, its held up really well against the rain. If you ever want a playing partner, let me know! I'm off 12
Nice round of winter “pasture pool”. It’s just cool exercise.
I've not heard 'pasture pool' before Ken
Here in the states, a lot of budget friendly courses look like they went into a cow pasture and dug holes for flags and called it a golf course.
Amazing 😂
Just my feeble attempt at humor.
as a 30 handicap golfer the now, ive just gone up and up, id like to come and play with You and Fents and Dennis in the summer, I dont mind being embarrassed by my poor golf I do use blades probably not great for someone my age, but winter golf is out, there is rarely a day with no frost or rain here in the central highlands
Blades definitely sounds tricky Paul, some decent game improvement irons would probably do you wonders!
@@UpDownGolf bought a set of Taylor made, can’t hit them better than my blades, it’ll be a right laugh to see how I fare against you guys
Your score was a miracle considering the temp. greens and tees. Have a great xmas, both you and the missus. Best wishes from Sydney.
Thanks Richard, you too mate!
You guys are so lucky, we have lots of snow here in Montreal Quebec during winter, we only can do simulator golfing
Yeah I’m reluctant to ever moan too much about the conditions in winter mate for that very reason
Luke, you asked why you have a few shots in a round where you top the ball. it also goes to when you fat the ball and take a huge divot behind the ball.
They are both from the same issue which is you flip the club face before impact. You need slight forward shaft lean at impact. Flipping or casting is what you are doing. When your timing is on, you can manage contact and you have good enough eye, hand control to make it work.
Check out DST Golf, Bertie Cordle, he is the inventor of this trainer that works on forward shaft lean. Jon Rham actually uses this. It would be great if you could get a video with him and going through the training. Course condition looked very tough and those greens were unpredictable. Good score all things considered. Good luck mate.
I've been watching for a year now and it seems to be that Luke tends to do that on longer shots and I think its because he swings a tad harder on those shots. It's hard to get completely comfortable with your swing, enough that you don't swing harder on longer shots, but it's a critical step for sure.
Thanks @guitarMonke, I totally agree on the flipping issue. It's something I've struggled with for a long time. Appreciate it 👍
Canuck is also bang on. I don't know why and I really struggle to stop myself, but I do try and leather the ball when I'm hitting a longer shot. My subconscious must think I need more distance therefore more power rather than just trusting the club
Typical parkland in winter !! enjoyed the struggle though, tip for temporary "bucket holes", try putting with a 7 iron, bit more run. Cheers.
Yeah great shout that Roland! Cheers 👍
Those tractor treads on your buggy tell me how bad the conditions get there ! 🙏👍 Pretty sure ya should’ve been chipping those putts on the temporary greens , just to jump over most of the bobbles !
I think you're right in hindsight!
Decent round fella! Tough conditions at the moment
Thanks Jam!
You really need to get a hybrid or 5 wood instead of a 2 iron much easier to get up in the air
Please ditch the 2 iron - even if you think you don't like hybrids, give it time.
You don't have the speed, and look at the conditions.
I’d understand the argument if I didn’t just top woods and hybrids though 😂
@UpDownGolf just practice with a hybrid.
Scuzzy low 2 irons going all over the place are probably worse than a top amyway
Well played Luke
Thanks Matt!
Well played. Parkland courses in the winter are a drab depressing place aren’t they. 😂.
Hah they certainly can be. If you're not hitting it well it can become pretty depressing pretty quickly 😅
Summer golf here in Australia comes with different difficulties than winter golf there. We are flat out dodging drop bears and hoop snakes!
Wow haha! We don't have that issue Paul 😂
Nice video.
Thanks dude!
Didn't know you had a TH-cam channel buddy!
Where's the invite?😂😂
Happy New Year and I'll see you on a the BRGS soon..
Hey Wev! I can’t wait mate, this weather is killing me 😂
@@UpDownGolf it's freezing at the moment! No golf for me this week! 🫣
Spiced Rum in a hip flask helps in this weather
Haha great shout that Phil 😂
Those tractor treads on your buggy tell me how bad the conditions get there ! 🙏👍
It took me a while to clean those wheels Steve 😅
First of all merry Xmas to you and your crew - I've enjoyed your vlogs for ages now.
Winter golf - it's not too bad currently 22/12 in Oxfordshire - miles better than last year (so verrrry wet in 2023...). I get pissed off when I have to clean ball *every* shot - certainly not the case right now..
Re the glove; why are you wearing it? (serious question). I got rid of mine a couple of years ago; I wouldn't go back to one. It might give Fents apoplexy, but that's just another positive.... YMMV but I *instantly played better without one - I think I have more feel/touch/feedback, and really enjoyed the lack of costume changes/guilt when putting. I urge you to try naked hands/put it on camera (at very least it's an interesting proposition). To my mind currently the glove is a prop; so what is it propping up?
*Left index finger - a couple of months, at most...
Thanks Brian, Merry Christmas to you too!
I actually do a bit of practice in my garage without a glove and I can really tell the difference in my grip. I swing slower in the garage anyway but if I was to properly swing without a glove I'd feel like I'd let go of the club! 😅
Well done on dropping your handicap. No purport golf shoes?..
Thanks man. Purpose golf shoes you mean? The Puma shoes I have are made for golf
Good lad for getting out. 👍
Cheers Sam!
Nice one Luke. Have a good one yourself.
Another golf phrase to add to the inventory - “That’s what happens when you’re on a downslope …. And you’re useless”
How about one gig where it’s all Sand Saves ? Up and Down Golf at the beach…
😂 Sometimes you’ve just gotta say it how it is haven’t you haha
It’s not a bad idea!
Hello LUKE great video as i like no matter the score I wish you to have a good Christmas with lots of gifts...for Dan also...
Thanks dude! Hope you had a good one too!
When your swing looks the best to me is when your tempo is more deliberate. Slow down a little, you are a good striker all you need is center contact, which u do very well
Totally agree mate, appreciate the feedback 👊
Aye ur no in Portugal now Luke eh 🤣🤣 , good going tho for the conditions, I went out on Sunday (22nd) for my birthday round 😳 can’t really remember after the 8th 🤣 wasn’t keeping score either but seemingly I played shite 💪🏻⛳️🤣🏴
Haha definitely not JT! 😅 Ay happy birthday mate! Sounds like you had a good time either way mate 😂
Interested to know how many putts you aim for, I give myself 2 a hole
Yeah I'm the same rmb. I won't be disappointed if I two putt
Good swing, just need to sharpen up short game and hitting fairways, greens in reg etc. work on your short game if you want to join the club of cat 1.
Thanks dude!
Fancy a subscriber series! Oakdale Golf club in Harrogate. 14.5HC
Let me know if you fancy a match 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Jak 👍
Good to see you in some new clobber. Usually change your clothes less than noddy. Well played Luke
😂 Cheers Ryan (love the noddy throwback)
Yet another Club which hasn't measured the forward tees for men, as a senior player who would sometimes welcome playing the forward tees this is so frustrating.
Too many sad sacks on here giving out about winter golf,
Golf is about the challenge the course gives you on any given day that’s what the game is, no rule anywhere says it should be warm tempature or perfectly dry solid conditions,
I bet there is plenty of lads stuck on a hospital bed or unhealthy in some form that would give anything to get playing golf over winter
I know what you mean Derek. I view winter golf as just a different challenge to summer golf. See how well I can adapt to the tough conditions
you're opening up to early... leave that right hip where it is and start your arms DOWN first... then hit it with arms and upper body and your hip will then come through.. will stop those shanks/almost shanks... hold that hip back and your shoulders wont open so fast either... you are almost always pointing shoulders left when you hit the ball
I hit with the upper body rotation don't I. I can feel myself do it
Not getting the ball in the air is probably due to not having your weight left enough
Or due to slashing at the ball like Zoro
Both fair points
Winter golf does not appeal to me at all, perhaps the range on a sunny day.
I know what you mean, sometimes I'm with you. Other times I'd rather be playing on course (even if it is a big of a bog 😅)
You have your lav mic in the wrong spot. It gives an awful sound when you swing similar to how 'The Average Golfer' guy used to do his vids. It makes the vid very hard to watch.
I don't get why you don't you head over to the Yorkshire Links golf courses. They should be in much better nick than all those soggy parkland tracks at this time of year.
Yeah apologies, I realised on the back 9 I had the mic under my top layer. I don't usually. Which courses do you recommend?
Wow they’ve got some great greens keepers….Not !!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Haha I’ve picked the worst time of year to play here I think
Please please please Luke stop calling it a Pee wedge it makes my teeth itch
👀 You know what's going to happen now you've said that
nice bounce lol:)
😂
th-cam.com/video/9gOH2XdH4ps/w-d-xo.html I've never laughed harder. Good round. Cheers.
😅 Thanks dude
this course and conditions look shite, good effort though
Thanks dude!
Don’t know how anyone can enjoy winter golf . This just looked awful . Awful fairways and awful greens, bobbling all over . I don’t see the point ! I know it keeps your eye in and swing going for the next season - but so does a home net 😂😂
Home net will never be able to replicate on course practice. Every year I’ve played through winter and come out better for it in the spring and summer
We’ve had a great winter so far at my club, green keepers are miracle workers. And I’ve had a fab time.
The love for golf is greater than the hatred for winter golf
@@Micklar1what can you practice on course In these conditions ? As the short game is completely different to summer in nice conditions ?
@@United4eva85not for me . Played 26 years and love the game but not when it’s like this
Who cares.Boring.
You care. Thanks for commenting
I see this sort of golf every time I play. I wouldn’t bother posting it.
Enjoy watching your channel but i must ask is why are you using a 2iron instead of a hybrid or 5/7 wood🏌️⛳
I just don't get on with woods and hybrids mate. Appreciate you watching!
