That is a very inefficient use of space for solar energy generation, but yeah, neat.

Can you explain further? I would suggest if there wasn't any solar panels there that space would be empty so it having it there is better than naught.

The problem is this: If the solar panels were installed on rooftops instead the space they occupy now could be a forrest or a field to grow crops. But yes, I agree that if the choice is fossil fuels or solar then giving up the space is worth it.

But look at the sky, it's full of dusts particles. How efficient are the panels gonna be?
Also keeping the panels clean from all the dust settlements will be a long term challenge?

actually it can be seen as a employment opportunity

I wonder how many solar panels it would take take to equal the power and efficiency of coal.

isn't building actual solar pannels produce A LOT of fossil fuels ? Extraction of precious materials, refinement, transport, plastic, electronics, etc...

A lot depends on what you measure it against, it will be less than coal. Also we'll reach a point where fossil fuels will be used in very limited industries. It is also possible to manufacture renewable energy producers with very little pollutants, the same cannot be said for fossil fuels. But if your point is that in order to have renewable energy we use fossil fuels then the answer is yes because we're transitioning from one to the other, it would be impossible to all of a sudden stop using fossil fuels.
